Go take your knife to a gun fight and see how you fare. A car isn’t killing Kirk today. The inability to stop every form of homocide isn’t a reason to not take steps to reduce the access to deadly weapons. This is why other countries look at us like we are nuts with our guns. -

I think I’m a bit more optimistic than your view. I interact with all sorts of people and in daily interactions, I don’t see that much division. Maybe it’s just people being polite and when they go home they turn into social media warriors behind their keyboards. Places like PPP attract those who want to espouse their political views and battle online. Are all the provocative posters here really as argumentative when they meet someone face to face from the other side of the political divide? That would be weird. What is apparent though is that it is easier than ever to act out gun violence to whomever your target is. If you want to kill someone, get whatever gun you want and have at it. -

Instead of being upset at how he or those with different views talk on politics, maybe we should be discussing how we can prevent gun violence. -
Who doesn’t have friends who joke with them about selling fully depreciated women to them? I’m sure it’s all just “locker room” talk. On the other hand, Momma always said how I’m defined by the friends I have. Maybe in Donalds deprived childhood, he never got that message.

I’m speechless. Love Prater! -
It’s all about acting like you are jacked up on steroids with a double dose of testosterone. When you are strong, you don’t have to tell anyone. This comes from Trumps broken insecure brain.

This anti vax movement in the Republican Party is as stupid as the defund police stuff on the far left. This is all the opinion of a guy with a brain worm. I’m sure the kids of the politicians will be vaccinated. The less educated, those Trump says he loves, will be vulnerable and suffer. This also might be an opportunity for the insurance companies to profit more if they dont need to pay for as many shots. Three years from now, Republicans will disavow any association with this lunacy.

What is better, no guns, or more guns?
Andy1 replied to Security's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
At least for driving they require testing of vision and your license may be revoked depending on changes in your health status. There are required training programs to take and testing to qualify to drive. Not so with the right to pack. Any suggestions on approaches you would support to reduce the plague of gun deaths in America? -

I hear the cars analogy before. Most people depend on cars to work and live. Guns are different. I’m not an advocate for confiscation. I am an advocate for public education about the dangers of firearms and buy back programs to destroy them. Safe storage laws, background checks etc… It’s pretty simple - guns kill. The more guns there are, the more opportunities for tragedies. Now, I will admit that I live in a relatively community. People who legitimately feel threatened may have different calculus. But for most people, to buy a gun just because you can is inviting the opportunity for something really bad to happen to you or someone you love. -

Yes. The stupidity of social media stunts is infinite. Those two pranks have totally different implications for the stupid boys who do them. It reminds me of an incident several years ago, where an off-duty cop was sleeping in his motel room. Someone tried to enter the room. He shot the person. When he turned on the lights he realized that he had killed his own son. Guns require the judgement of the gun owner to be perfect, all the time, otherwise tragedies can happen. -

Too many gun owners are idiots. A kid shouldn’t be shot just because of a prank. In New York, a gun owner shot a girl who pulled into his driveway to turn around. When people buy the gun, they don’t expect that they may end up in prison because of their poor judgement using that gun. -
The reality is… is that Trump is a frail old man with health issues, as is expected for someone his age. Grandpa needs his rest now.

Yea, the 25 age would never be ruled constitutional, but it would be effective. Before everyone spent their time behind screens, we used to go out to clubs, drink and hang out as young men. We went places and did activities with our peers. That is also what seems to be missing from many young men as they brew their hatred of others in isolation or with toxic crap on the internet. Remember the anti smoking public education campaigns years ago. I think they were largely successful in changing public behavior. I would support something like that with guns. Of course the gun lobby would stop it but I can dream…. Personally, I think far too many people buy guns without fully understanding and accepting the supreme responsibility that is assumed with that purchase. The gun is sitting in the house, waiting forever to do its job. People buy it, practice with it a bit, forget about it, get tired of it, maybe their feeling of being in danger is gone, maybe their mental health status changes, maybe their kid now becomes a young distraught man, maybe they just get old and die and the gun still sits there, waiting to be used. Guns last longer than the people who purchase them, thus they are everywhere. Safe storage laws, prosecutions of negligent parents, PR persuasion campaigns to turn them in or discourage their purchase, liability insurance requirements (probably unconstitutional, but I think would be effective). It’s a wicked problem and one without easy answers but to do nothing is also not an answer. -

In a dream world - Better more thorough background checks. Longer waiting cool down periods. Mandatory background checks for private sales and gun shows. Ban sales to people with history of any violence or animal abuse. Red flag laws enforced. Restricted sales to men under the age of 25. Young screwed up men are nearly the entire problem. Another effective solution may be strategies to reduce isolation in society which promote relationship building for young men. Im not saying it would be a panacea, but I think it would help…. Not that I expect any of the legal stuff to happen given the court and politics, thus the sacrifice of lives must continue. On a positive note, I read that mass shootings are declining compared to years ago, so maybe we are over the hump or it could just be declining demographics of young men. -

Thank God we have the unhindered right to get whatever gun we want. It’s obviously helping to keep us safe. Now if we can only convince our priests to carry. Then maybe we will be safe in church. Until then, the sacrifice must continue. -
U.S. - China agree on framework of trade deal
Andy1 replied to Big Blitz's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I don’t hear anyone talking about this. I guess it’s part of the amazing winning deal Trump made with China. A couple months ago, we were taking the student visas away. Now Trump is flipping and opening the door to educate Chinese students so they can take their knowledge back to China. The previous peak for Chinese students here was in 2019-2020 at 372,000. In 2023-24, there were 277,000 getting educated here. What do you all think of it? -

So the guy with no medical degree but who has a brain worm is walking around, looking at kids and diagnosing them with “mitochondrial challenges”. That’s where our agency to protect public health is at. Who wants their doctor to listen to this quack? -

The only ideology these monsters have is hate with mental illness and access to guns. Thank God we have our 2nd Amendment rights. It has to be this way and nothing will change forever and ever… -

While I’m not tuned into right wing media, I get that perspective here. If there is so much outrage over Trumps policy, I haven’t seen it expressed here on PPP. So what do you think about government taking ownership of businesses? -

Looks like socialist Bernie agrees with Trump on owning a share of Intel. This is the world we are in and apparently all the MAGA has no problem with it. I guess Trump is bringing some Bernie into his policy. Bizarro world! https://www.reuters.com/world/us/us-senator-sanders-favors-trump-plan-take-stake-intel-other-chipmakers-2025-08-20/ -
Well it didn’t take long. Let’s go to court and find out. It seems to me that burning flags is just about an American tradition of protest speech. Though I wouldn’t be surprised if this SC would agree that money in campaigns is speech but flag burning isn’t. This guy below certainly isn’t inciting a riot, unlike J6.
