  1. I thought the whole stand your ground stuff and you can shoot if you feel threatened was a right wing position.
  2. Looks like another person added to the long list of people who wrecked their lives by their devotion to Trump. Trump will be encouraging more violence as the legal process continues, with more of his followers lives wrecked.
  3. Now consider that Independents are the largest single voting block. Republicans have screwed themselves with their unending devotion to Trump. They can’t win with Trump and they can’t win without him.
  4. Cults provide easy answers so their members don’t have to struggle with uncomfortable truths. Trump never lost, etc… If Obama or Biden faced the same charges Trump is, we all know Fox and MAGA world would be chanting lock him up every day. Yet Trump can do no wrong in their eyes.
  5. Big night for MAGA. Make Attorneys Get Attorneys.
  6. Might be a tough night to sleep for Trump and his goon squad.
  7. It would be nice if the trial is on tv for all to see and hear. Otherwise Trump will continue to push his lies about the process.
  8. Death threats against any person is no joke, or an extremely sick sense of humor. My only point is that law enforcement using excessive force has been an issue for black and brown people forever. It’s a legitimate topic to discuss reforms to police/FBI procedures.
  9. Watching Bills-Colts preseason game. They’ve shown an ad a few times on safe gun storage from endfamilyfire.org. That’s the first time I’ve seen any ads on this topic. Definitely a step in the right direction.
  10. Insurrection: an act or instance of revolting against civil authority or an established government So they were all just tourists who wanted autographs from Pelosi and Pence? If Trump had not spoken to them, and had not pushed the big lie, would the same events of that day have happened?
  11. Interesting how MAGA fans are now all concerned about excessive force used by law enforcement. Breonna Taylor agrees with you. Sounds like an opportunity for bipartisan legislation to address this issue, which means nothing will likely happen.
  12. Law enforcement tactics using excessive force is a legitimate topic for debate. It’s been a sporadic problem at the local, state and federal levels. In the end, law enforcement is often put in horribly dangerous situations and they understandably want to be the ones who get to walk away at the end. That’s not a blanket defense of excessive force but it’s the ugly reality. It also doesn’t help when cops know any crazy person could be armed with assault weapons.
  13. You’re right. At times, I wonder how many people have died or screwed up their lives due to their devotion to Trump. Countless dead from not taking Covid seriously, over a thousand dealing with legal consequences from J6, so many family members who won’t talk to each other, the woman killed on J6, this guy, attorneys and associates in prison, many others facing pending legal charges, etc. He’s the only politician in my lifetime who is literally toxic to those around him or who believe in him most. And Trump doesn’t care a whit about any of them.
  14. FBI went in knowing he was mentally unstable with an arsenal inside. Same as cops when they know the suspect is armed. Many times it’s also suicide by cop.
  15. Another person who believed Trumps lies and tragically pays the ultimate price. So many people have screwed up their lives by joining the cult and following him. This only seems to happen to Trump followers.
  16. And many thought the iPhone would never succeed. It doesn’t really matter what your opinion of them is. They are the future and they will be shaping this country according to their values, just like the generations before them. The Republican Party can change or become a minority party that can’t win general elections.
  17. I think most Americans would be satisfied with the provisions allowed under Roe.
  18. Young voters are the hope for the future. They definitely ain’t buyin what republicans are sellin.
  19. Yea, a win for democracy… Maybe Rs will start getting the message that voters do not want what they are selling.
  20. It looks like he is going to challenge the authority of the court and ignore whatever order is decided upon. He probably figures, maybe correctly, that he will not be imprisoned for talking, so why bother complying with the court order. And the show goes on….
  21. Corporatism is certainly thriving in America. From massive tax cuts, state tax deals to attract business, government bailouts, being considered “people” by the Supreme Court and the breaking of labor unions, corporations rule America.
  22. I don’t label people fascists here, but in case anyone is wondering… Political scientist Dr. Lawrence Britt recently wrote an article about fascism ("Fascism Anyone?," Free Inquiry, Spring 2003, page 20). Studying the fascist regimes of Hitler (Germany), Mussolini (Italy), Franco (Spain), Suharto (Indonesia), and Pinochet (Chile), Dr. Britt found they all had 14 elements in common. He calls these the identifying characteristics of fascism. The excerpt is in accordance with the magazine's policy. The 14 characteristics are: Powerful and Continuing Nationalism Fascist regimes tend to make constant use of patriotic mottos, slogans, symbols, songs, and other paraphernalia. Flags are seen everywhere, as are flag symbols on clothing and in public displays. Disdain for the Recognition of Human Rights Because of fear of enemies and the need for security, the people in fascist regimes are persuaded that human rights can be ignored in certain cases because of "need." The people tend to look the other way or even approve of torture, summary executions, assassinations, long incarcerations of prisoners, etc. Identification of Enemies/Scapegoats as a Unifying Cause The people are rallied into a unifying patriotic frenzy over the need to eliminate a perceived common threat or foe: racial , ethnic or religious minorities; liberals; communists; socialists, terrorists, etc. Supremacy of the Military Even when there are widespread domestic problems, the military is given a disproportionate amount of government funding, and the domestic agenda is neglected. Soldiers and military service are glamorized. Rampant Sexism The governments of fascist nations tend to be almost exclusively male-dominated. Under fascist regimes, traditional gender roles are made more rigid. Opposition to abortion is high, as is homophobia and anti-gay legislation and national policy. Controlled Mass Media Sometimes to media is directly controlled by the government, but in other cases, the media is indirectly controlled by government regulation, or sympathetic media spokespeople and executives. Censorship, especially in war time, is very common. Obsession with National Security Fear is used as a motivational tool by the government over the masses. Religion and Government are Intertwined Governments in fascist nations tend to use the most common religion in the nation as a tool to manipulate public opinion. Religious rhetoric and terminology is common from government leaders, even when the major tenets of the religion are diametrically opposed to the government's policies or actions. Corporate Power is Protected The industrial and business aristocracy of a fascist nation often are the ones who put the government leaders into power, creating a mutually beneficial business/government relationship and power elite. Labor Power is Suppressed Because the organizing power of labor is the only real threat to a fascist government, labor unions are either eliminated entirely, or are severely suppressed . Disdain for Intellectuals and the Arts Fascist nations tend to promote and tolerate open hostility to higher education, and academia. It is not uncommon for professors and other academics to be censored or even arrested. Free expression in the arts is openly attacked, and governments often refuse to fund the arts. Obsession with Crime and Punishment Under fascist regimes, the police are given almost limitless power to enforce laws. The people are often willing to overlook police abuses and even forego civil liberties in the name of patriotism. There is often a national police force with virtually unlimited power in fascist nations. Rampant Cronyism and Corruption Fascist regimes almost always are governed by groups of friends and associates who appoint each other to government positions and use governmental power and authority to protect their friends from accountability. It is not uncommon in fascist regimes for national resources and even treasures to be appropriated or even outright stolen by government leaders. Fraudulent Elections Sometimes elections in fascist nations are a complete sham. Other times elections are manipulated by smear campaigns against or even assassination of opposition candidates, use of legislation to control voting numbers or political district boundaries, and manipulation of the media. Fascist nations also typically use their judiciaries to manipulate or control elections.
