Obama's Foreign Policy
keepthefaith replied to Trump_is_Mentally_fit's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Act in our own best interests and that of our close allies only. If there are actions in the ME that suit us economically and our security, do it. Otherwise ignore the medieval governments and population over there. They aren't worth it. -
Obama's Foreign Policy
keepthefaith replied to Trump_is_Mentally_fit's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
The man came into office with an ax to grind. He'll leave office with an ax to grind. We should expect him to grind his ax publicly for many years to come. -
Kaepernick and the National Anthem

Invest 4 minutes listening to this Obama radio interview from 2001. -
Comey's credibility has gone to near zero. I can appreciate that he's in a tough spot given the orders he's probably been given and the retirement benefits waiting for him in a few years. Coverup or resign, a tough choice.

Yes and Nixon was simply guilty of covering up a campaign hotel room break-in which to me is akin to Clinton's campaign hacking Bernie's campaign.

It's an optical illusion. With a haircut he'll look like his usual self. -

Sully throws in the towel too

Does the Buffalo News sell a "no Sully" edition? That would be very popular. -

I see Kaep going the way of Ricky Williams. They'll do a documentary on him in 10 years showing him barefoot somewhere in the Himalayas growing his own food and pot and spending a lot of time meditating . -
McCoy - Best player no one is talking about

Yes, for every non-expert opinion there is an equal and opposite non-expert opinion. -
There are a lot of damn buttons holding those together. Probably inside and outside buttons, like stitches.

I know what you mean but just watch her if elected. She'll need half the damn day just to awaken, bathe, dress, eat and figure out what the hell she is doing that day.

I was pretty surprised that DT got the invitation. What is impressive to me was Trump making the trip, having the meeting and getting back stateside to make a very long and thorough presentation on the topic. Obviously he prepared but he's running circles around Hillary in terms of activity and hitting things in the news cycle such as the flood in Louisiana. She's moving like a snail and even if that's her strategy, she's not looking good in comparison.

Kaepernick and the National Anthem

Probably a bad draw for CK as it's Military night in San Diego for the upcoming game. There will be a big ass American flag out there for him to ignore during the anthem. http://abcnews.go.com/US/nfl-qb-colin-kaepernick-set-sit-national-anthem/story?id=41773970 Are you kidding? He'll fit right in. He can move into the Somalian refugee neighborhood and vote for Ilhan Omar. She sings his tune. -
But at the same time, Debbie Waffleface-shitz resigns from the DNC in very public shame and only a few weeks later wins a primary for her party against an opponent with none of her baggage. The low trust in government numbers are very understandable, but at the same time voters wiffed on the opportunity to take out someone that has a terrible and recent record of being untrustworthy. Yes, I know I'm talking about leftist voters here but would voters on the right toss their candidate in a similar situation? As a nation of collective voters we really suck.

Homeland Security Taking Charge Of Elections
keepthefaith replied to Dante's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Has DHS under Obama done anything in nearly 8 years that actually impacts the security of the homeland? -

I'll weigh in on that. Down here on the ground running a business, we've had little wage growth for our employees over the past 5 years or so. However, my cost of doing business has risen substantially during this time. Health insurance and in great part due to Obamacare has risen more than 60% during this period. Property taxes have risen probably 20% during the same period. Liability insurance, workmans comp and unemployment ins have risen a lot and we've had zero claims. State income tax here rose 60% a few years ago and then settled back to a lesser increase but we are left with a state corporate tax in Illinois that many states don't have. Regulations on fire extinguishers and fire alarm systems have changed resulting in higher annual costs. Shipping, packaging and other costs have risen much faster than inflation. Now I know that the Federal gubmint doesn't directly control many of the items I've mentioned, but collectively the various taxing bodies have substantially raised our cost of doing business and shippers like fedex and ups have cited increased employee costs and other rising expenses as their reasons for significant price increases. All while this has happened our revenues and margins have been mostly flat. I doubt I'm the only business owner that can tell this story. Point is that the federal government and other municipal bodies are tone deaf on the real world of running a business Those that study or are educated in economics can look at lots of numbers from 50,000 feet but I believe that our experience of the last several years is typical or many businesses and that any increased dollars that have to be directed toward taxes and other regulatory expenses have to be taken from profits and what is available for payroll, inventory and expansion. All of this would be easy to solve if we could simply "pass this on to the consumer" but we're in a highly price sensitive business where that is simply not possible. We've been able to tweak some gross margin improvement but that has more than been consumed by increases in the cost of other items. So we're a microcosm of the greater economy of 1% growth, stagnant wages and low confidence while we spend more on anything that touches government or insurance. That is how government(s) have crowded this private enterprise.

Regarding the Kaepernick discussion...
keepthefaith replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I felt it was good to leave it in the main area as this was also being debated in public by fans, football analysts and others. It's been a mainstream discussion and football related. I really enjoyed reading many of the posts by people here and the various points of view. As long as people thicken their skin just a bit and not take what's written too seriously, there is value in debates such as these IMO. -
Kaepernick and the National Anthem
keepthefaith replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
We let 1 million immigrants into the country legally every year. There is simply too much room for abuse allowing non-citizens to vote. For example a President could use border patrol to process through immigrants that show up at our door or overstay visas and assist them in finding homes in particular parts of the country where the numbers could impact elections. The same president could make sure that the same immigrants are getting taxpayer paid benefits which might "buy" their votes. A President could use homeland security and the justice department in ways that would shield both the immigrants and these questionable activities as well. Of course no President would have the balls to do this and even if he/she did, their own party would surely stand up against it as an abuse of power. Now seriously I'm equally disturbed by any efforts that are obviously done to suppress the votes of citizens but we should also want integrity in the voting process. As for CK, He's going to take a lot of **** and get some support. Problem that I see is that he's made a very serious allegation (oppression of people based on race) and hasn't backed it up well. He's hitched his wagon to a narrative that isn't terribly credible and one that ignores the root causes of people not achieving the quality of life they want. Because of this I think he'll be dismissed by the majority. My guess is we won't hear much more from him on this.
