Actually, I believe they paid him $43M at the signing and another $10M in the form of a roster bonus for last year. Still, that's $26.5M per game. Insane.
No one is taking that contract and I doubt he looks to restructure himself out of $$$. It was one of the worst deals I've seen in recent years. They'd also take a $27M+ cap hit. If they are dead set on getting rid of him it will be by release.
I don't believe it. "I represent those.." blah, blah, blah. In reality it's "I've got a case I'm filing against an NFL Superstar and I'm going to milk this mf'er for every dime and ounce of publicity I can get."
Kerrigan is the guy I'd like to have in the fold tbh. Yes he's 32, but played only 397 snaps last year and still put up 5.5 sacks. He could easily replicate a Lawson type of production. If he comes at the right price then I would sign him.
Honestly, I have thought about this watching all the moves they have made. Thinking that BB might be willing to ransom basically the entirety of his next 2 drafts to get Watson and maybe then some.
I wouldn't mind taking a flyer on Kerrigan or Aldon Smith. Those will probably be our cheapest options that could still prove to be effective. But they may not want to even go that route.
Fools gold if you ask me. He had what, like 6.5 sacks his first three years in total? Now he gets 15.5 in a contract year? That's a hell of a pay day for a guy with 22 sacks in 4 years.
This is the 2nd year in a row the Jets are striking out in FA. I might just head on over to Gang Green to see the meltdown taking place on their message board.
This just goes to show how much they have sucked in the draft as of late. Before they were re-signing their own. Playing the Comp formula and attempting to draft replacements has been a swing-n-a-miss.
