  1. Has anyone mentioned yet "Mavis, Discount Tires"? Can't get that darn jingle out of my mind!
  2. If we hire Polian, and he wants to hire as coach someone whose best record in the NFL was 9-7, and whose most recent record was 3-6 in a shortened season, and whose claim to fame was winning Grey Cups, what would we say?
  3. You said it well. The only thing I like about Schopp is that he is confident in his opinions. Too many of the other WGR guys fill their comments with "perhaps," "maybe," "kind of," etc. Having lived in New York Boston, D.C., and the Philly area over the last 27 years, I can say that the difference in sports-radio quality really shows between a major and a minor market. Schopp's brand is to be insulting to listeners. There are guys who do that in the other markets who are at least still listenable because they have enough wit and humor. Schopp is just plain painful to listen to. If I were the General Manager of WGR I would do this: conduct a poll on The Stadium Wall of which posters would be the best to host a Bills pre-game and post-game show. Then find out if the top vote-getters are available, and if so, hire them, even if they have to call in remotely. Regardless of whether they have a good radio voice or not, they would be an improvement over the current broadcasters. Whose perspectives on the game would you rather listen to, Bill from NYC's, or Schopp's?
  4. Is this satisfying or frustrating?
  5. At least Schopp definitely tells you what he thinks, even if he's arrogant and disagreeable. With a few exceptions, the broadcasters on WGR fill their comments with "maybe," "could be," "kind of," etc. When it comes to football commentary, I want to listen to or read posts by people who know more than I do, and don't hesitate to state their opinions. That's why I go to The Stadium Wall before turning on WGR.
  6. One of my first memories of the Bills was hearing the "We want Lamonica!" chant whenever Jack Kemp would falter. If I had to pick a favorite year in my life, it would be 1964. It was my first full year of rooting for the Bills, and they win a championship. The Beatles arrive in the U.S. And being Catholic, Vatican II was in full swing.
  7. I've been following the Bills since 1963, and it hasn't gotten any better. For crying out loud, I snapped at my mother yesterday after Orton's second interception, and she's 90 years old. Does that make any sense? When I was spending a mission year in Peru in 1991-92, a few months after Wide Right, the country was being terrorized by the Sendero Luminoso, a radical group trying to overthrow the government. They used kidnapping, assassination, shakedowns, etc. and would blow up the power lines to throw Lima into chaos. One night I was driving back from a dangerous shantytown, during a blackout, and got lost. Two men with ski masks, dressed in black, stepped in front of the car and motioned me to stop. I figured this was it, these were the terrorists, and they were going to kill me, or at least steal the car, in which case the pastor would kill me. Turns out they were special police forces, guarding police headquarters. Unbeknownst to me I was driving the wrong way down a one-way street right toward the police h.q., and they thought I was a terrorist! The last thing I thought after I'd stopped the car and they cautiously approached, guns drawn, motioning me to roll down my window, was "God, I only wanted to see Buffalo win one Super Bowl before I died." I know, that's sick. But if we could just win one Super Bowl...
  8. We knew it would be hard to move against a top rated defense that's not missing any starters...
  9. I agree with earlier post. A long interception on 3rd and long can be as good as a punt.
  10. Thank you! Could you make up 41 questions for the management at WGR?
  11. Thank you. Spiller should be returning punts.
  12. So, I take it there's not much enthusiasm for the idea of having CJ return punts.
  13. I looked all through this thread and did not see this suggestion: Have CJ return punts! Why not? Leodis is not as explosive as he used to be. Kickoff returns are few and far between. Why not give CJ the ball in space 4-5 times a game by letting him return punts?
  14. I for one am glad the Patriots won big. If the Bengals had beaten them, even with the emotion of a packed house for the first game under Pegula, we risked taking them too lightly. Imagine, the Bills taking the Patriots too lightly!
  15. When I saw that headline this morning, it made me pause and have second thoughts about some of the Ralph-bashing that I participated in. Thank you, Ralph.
  16. Ah, yes. I remember those chants, "We want Lamonica!" For those of us who grew up watching football in the 1960s, as much as we regretted losing Lamonica (who would lead Oakland to a Super Bowl), we probably didn't recognize the great leader we had in Kemp. His stats weren't great, unless you consider winning championships to be stats!
  17. In other words, my celebrating is more important than being on the field to help my team win. Old-timers like me have a hard time understanding that attitude. While the other major problems the NFL is dealing with center around what players are doing off the field, the attitudes and the product on the field aren't doing the league image any favors, either, at least with my generation.
  18. It's-as-good-as-a-punt-itis. I get that every time we're way down, and it's third and long, and we don't realize that a long pass way downfield might actually get caught (or there might be pass interference), and even an interception would be almost as good as a punt.
  19. You can tell I'm an old fan, because I remember them playing a game in Wrigley Field. http://www.footballdb.com/teams/nfl/chicago-bears/teamvsteam?opp=4 So they were only 0-4 in Soldier Field, 0-5 in Chicago.
  20. I'm starting my 51st season as a Bills fan, so I've pretty much seen it all. I would not be at all surprised for this to happen: - Week 1 at Chicago, EJ throws 4 tds in the first half, and Buffalo goes on to beat Chicago 35-10. - Week 2, vs. Miami, the Ralph is rocking and the Bills are eating it up on the ground. Up 14-0 with seconds to go in the first half, they're driving. Instead of taking the easy 3 to go up 17-0, they gamble on 4th and goal. EJ tries to run it in, and gets another knee injury. Out for the season. Miami comes back to win 17-14, and the Bills go on to finish 3-13. I just see it coming.
  21. Serious reply, which I have asked a number of people about over the years: why don't they put the name underneath the numbers, just above the waist? Also, will the four different Williamses on the team have first initials on their uniforms once the season starts? Will Mario have MA and Mike MI?
  22. Easy answer: McFadden's. http://www.sbwire.com/press-releases/mcfaddens-philadelphia-now-hosting-buffalo-bills-game-watch-parties-335330.htm Great atmosphere, great prices, great fans.
