A Few Thoughts About The Game.....
Lofton80 replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Three cheers for Trent Edwards on the TD drive that ended with Marshawn's td, Trent ran for 12 yards up the middle on to convert a third down. Pretty ballsy play coming off a concussion. -
Mitchell without question. Kyle Williams and Marcus Stroud deserve some credit as LT had 9 runs for 2 yards or less. Trent Edwards on the offense. Freddy Jackson with the pancake block deserves some love.
-
It infuruated me to listen to Dierdorf keep describing the game from SD's angle as being a trap game. 4-1 team at home and we are a trap game. Great win ! Mitchell made the play of the day with the int.

Steve's Ox Roast is a great stop not far from the stadium.

I think the zone blocking strategy is for the running back to hit whatever crease exists and Fred Jackson is good at changing directions and going forward at the same time. He slides over to wherever the crease is. It appears to me the Marshawn is a plow ahead/ physical runner that might be better served by a drive blocking scheme. I also think Fowler gets blown up in the middle of the line which limits our between the tackles running. Not sure Butler has the feet for a zone blocking scheme either. After watching the SD nose tackle manhandle NE's center last week, I cannot see Fowler being too successful. He does make good line calls though.

A Few Thoughts About The Game

2) It was due to confusion after the non-penalty call for an illegal receiver. (the costly delay of game penalty). Well yes, but it also appeared the veteran backup QB was not even looking at the clock. 3) Jabari Greer had a particularly rough outing, despite making a play or 2. I agree but it also appeared our coaching staff had never seen Kurt Warner play before, he made his career throwing slant passes. The Jets jammed his receivers and rushed him from the right as he holds the ball low in his passing hand, they swatted it away a couple of times. We come out in the base cover 2 and sat there and get picked apart. Bad plan, played not to lose. Kept it close most of the game; reminded me of Jauron 2006 and 2007. 4) It was entirely Fowler's fault. (1st fumble). Yes, Bill but he makes tremendous line calls. 5) Any complaints about Peters today? He certainly made progress, and had the blind side sealed off for most of the game. Contrary to the anti-Peters mob, I thought he was outstanding. He ragdolled a 290 lb DE a couple of times. He was not the problem today. 6) The play calling was too conservative. (Having to settle for A 48 yard field goal). He clearly was playing for the field goal there. Lindell was money but again playing not to lose. Duke Preston and Chris Ellis might be getting near a debut I am guessing. -
Excellant post. Couldn't agree more about the OLine. Amazes me that guys run free right by our lineman. JP handed off to Lynch and the Cards defender is in their face 5 yards deep causing a fumble. Fowler appears to be a weak link. Might be time to give Duke a shot.

Every team is due a bad week right?!?!?!
Lofton80 replied to zow2's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Cardinals played like a desperate hungry team. They likely were humiliated all week looking at Favre throwing for 6 td's again and again. The Jets humiliated them even going for 2 when they had the game won. A good team is going to want to redeem itself and the Cards played with a chip on their shoulder. Showed big time on special teams as twice our returners got jacked up. It appeared the game plan was to play the conservative cover 2 not giving up the long play. As a result, Warner picked us apart with slants and intermediate throws. I can only guess the the coaches were thinking Warner would eventually beat himself with turnovers and sacks. Maybe they were afraid of having McKelvin out there. Few blitzes, , no "creep", no pressure, lotsa time for crossing routes. Warner has always been a quick release guy that needs his timing disrupted. Wr's were releasing too easy. Lotta long drives, lotta play calls, tired defense on its heels, recipe for a blowout. Boneheaded plays didn't help. Delay of game on second and 2, lining up in nuetral zone on a third down (Bryan), nuetral zone on FG (Jenkins), Royal dropping the ball (replay or not what was that?), countless Cards coming through untouched (one almost killed Lynch), 15 yard drops by QB on a screen play. Just a bad day. I will take a 4-1 start and suggest they don't need to fix a lot. Getting Edwards and McGee back on the field will help. I am not against giving Duke Preston a shot a C. I am curious about Chris Ellis. Seemed like he was a good edge rusher in preseason. Might be a change of pace to throw in there occasionally like Hargrove used to be. -
WoW!!!!!!!!!!!

A Few Thoughts About The Game

Poz was huge today stuffing many runs and knocking the snot out of a couple of the Rams after receptions. Kudos to Stroud and Williams for freeing up the Lb's. #91 made some plays as well. Gotta love the halftime adjustment by Turk and running right at them to start the second half with a score. Never saw such adjustments by Fairchild. Lets not forget Josh Reed's third down conversions, a few he had to juke a tackler to get the extra yards. -
A win against a very spirited Oakland team that outplayed the Bills for three quarters. Trent Edwards led the team to two scoring drives in the last 4 minutes after an Oakland score for another nailbiting finish capped off by a Rian Lindal field goal.
-
It was a huge play and he made some stops on the run as well. I have been critical of him in the past and thought he played great today. Youboty aslo made a huge stop when we needed to get the ball back late.
-
Trent Edwards stood in there and took a huge shot on the TD to Roscoe. The guy is a winner.

I liked Criqui at the last field goal excitely saying "the Raiders are rushing everyone here". Game ending field goat attempt seemed a little obvious. -
Lynch ran behind him for good yardage in the 4th quarter. He is not sharp right now but let's be real he is a talented player.
-
Compare that to last year. We were proboably last in the league in third down conversions.

Some of my own thoughts

Loved that sack. Liked the way he crept up on the outside and got there. How many times did Jerry Grey send the house and we never got to the QB. He hit Garrard pretty good and still needed some help. Garrard is a tank. -
And props to Kirk Chambers as well. He is provong to be a good pass blocker. Wonder if he can play center.

We beat a tough physical team on the road in the heat coming from behind in the final 5 minutes. I will temper nothing. It still feels great a day later. Go Bills!!!!!!!!!!!
