No, it's stupider. Determine citizenship through "other sources." That's...not actually possible. If it were possible, eVerify wouldn't be the steaming pile of ***** it currently is. And note that one of the big problems with eVerify's reliability is people not self-reporting their citizenship status. So this problem circles back to "asking people, and hoping they answer." Plus...even if they somehow make this "look in other sources" idea work, they'll be collecting enough data to determine not just citizenship, but legal residency. Which would not have been possible with the census question alone. So detractors of the citizenship have managed to stupidly maneuver this issue into exactly what they originally feared.
