Sweet - thanks for posting! Of course I tune in and see Fade to Black, the only song I believe I've seen them play every single time I've seen them (20+ times).

Anyone else catch last night's episode of 30 Days on FX? Great show - great episode. If you're not familiar with the show, its the creation of Morgan Spurlock, the guy who created/starred in "Supersize Me". Every week they have someone live someone else's experience for 30 Days (in week 1 Spurlock himself became a coal miner in West Virginia for 30 days - brutal). Anyway, last night's episode was 30 days in a wheelchair living as a parapelegic, and the guy who did it was ex NFL star Ray Crockett. He actually spent 30 days living in a chair as if he could not use his legs. He had his house modified with ramps, his car outfitted with hand controls, etc. He seemed to take it very seriously trying to understand what it is like for people who have suffered spinal chord injuries. Yeah, he has it better than almost anyone because as an ex NFL player he has a beautiful home and can afford everything to help him with his mobility, but I was very impressed that someone who has lived such a nice life (and is having a great retirement in his 40s) was willing to man up and take on a challenge like that for 30 days. He seems like he's one of the good guys and I was very impressed him as a person. Scary to think what could have been for a guy like Kevin Everett. Anyway, if you get the chance, check out the episode - one of the best things I've seen on TV in a long time.

That's deep. Never knew she was so deep.

Fantasy sports almost went all the way to the Supreme Court, but the high court refused to hear an appeal in the case. At issue: Can major league baseball charge a licensing fee for companies that use player names and statistics? MLB pressed the case, saying such information was intellectual property of the league and the players union. They had letters of support from all the other major league sports. I lower court ruled in favor of a fantasy baseball stats company, and when the SCOTUS refused the appeal that court's decision will now stand. As a fantasy player I'm glad my league website price isn't going to be jacked up so the league and the players get paid for information that's publicly available. When are the leagues going to realize that fantasy sports already provide a big boost? People get involved in fantasy, they watch more games, they go to more games, they buy more merchandise - it's free marketing and really keeps the fan interest at a high level.

Just In Case Any of You Hippies Were Wondering...

I don't know much about the climate up there, but is it really the case that the daily highs are only 3-4 degrees higher than the daily lows? Is the temperature really that constant? -
Wow - almost forgot the most underrated comedy of all time (because Fox tried to kill it): Idiocracy (the movie Mike Judge made after Office Space). Brilliant premise - Watch the Intro Seriously - if you haven't seen this movie, rent it. "Brawndo - it's got what plants crave - it's got electrolytes!"

Watching the Bills-Bengals replay on NFL Network
The Avenger replied to udonkey's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My thoughts exactly. How frustrating was it to see the Bills continually have to settle for FGs? 1st and goal from the 1ft line and we have to settle for 3? Come on! Yeah we won, but the score should have ben much different. If the Bengals hadn't played so poorly the Bills could have lost that game and it would have been yet another "yep - we should have won that game" game. -
I can't understand these guys at all. It's pretty simple - keep it together and you're going to hit a payday the rest of us could only dream about. Hardy stands to make more in his signing bonus than I'll make most of my working career, all he has to do is stay clean. And what is stay clean? Does it mean you have to be a boy scout? Does it mean you have to be th face of the United Way or some other charity in the community? Does it mean everyone has to look up to you as some sort of great person? No. The bar is pretty damn low. As far as I can tell, the bar is actually set at "don't do anything illegal". You can be a dirtbag. You can be a person nobody likes, a real a-hole, just don't do anything illegal and you'll get your money. Life is not a Tupac video. It's not that hard. Sheeshh...

In 2000 when Bledsoe got hurt there were 3 QBs on the roster - Bledsoe, the rookie Tom Brady and the veteran John Friesz, a 10 year vet who started 2 season in San Diego and 1 in Washington. The Pats opted for the kid over the vet and the rest in history (as a Bills fan I can't help but rue that decision - why could't they have gone with Friesz?)

Looks like the place that did lots of these ran into issues with the NFL and no longer does modifications (God forbid the NFL couldn't force you to put down another $325 each time you wanted another authentic jersey). Looks like you might get lucky with a mom and pop place - if anyone finds one please let us know!

There's no way they're going to burn a roster spot on a guy who won't have medical clearance to play. If they want to do something for him financially they'll cut him an injury settlement that essentially guarantees what he has left on his contract.

Yeah, but you know that sunny day in Canton, as Reed stands in his yellow jacket, he'll look out upon a sea of Redskin jerseys and talk about the great time he had as a Redskin. Fortunately for Reed he'll actually be able to tell annecdotes on all 10 of his catches as a Redskin in his speech, including "The Touchdown" - always a fan favorite. I can hardly wait.
-
Yeah, but who could forget that incredible 2000 season he had in Washington? - 10 receptions for 103 yards and a TD. Nothing he did in his 221 games as a Bill even comes close I hate to say it, but if the man finally gets his due and gets into the Hall you know he's going in as a Redskin....

The best had to be the simulator with the stick figure drawings. I love that the Brazilian was a stick figure with a hat made of fruit - the little things that make South Park so great...

How Many People Do You Know That Believe The Earth

One of my favorite Doonesbury strips of all time speaks to creationism and when those who deny evolution may want to rethink their position: Doonesbury -
The fact of the matter is that it is already fairly legal - it depends on who you are. If you're caught up in drugs, violence and sexual slavery (junkies needing cash for a fix, women abused by their pimps, foreign girls working as slaves in brothels) it's illegal, but when enforeced people are taken into custody for short times and spit out of the system without any sort of meaningful resolution so they're right back to it soon after. If you're an attractive, educated woman who works for big money a la Spitzer's Emperor's Club you don't generally get busted. The agencies don't get busted. People turn a blind eye to this form of prostitution. If she's got the class and you've got the cash it's rare that law enforcement will do anything about it. Look in the yellow pages (wow - that's dated - can't remember the last time I looked in a paper phone book) under escort you'll find its one of the largest sections in the book. Think all of these services exist to provide "dates" to lonely folks who don't want to go to the theater or eat dinner alone? Must be lots of those folks because there's dozens of pages for escort services and how often do you hear any of them ever getting busted? I understand about wanting to fight prostitution because of the bad things it brings (drugs, violence, servitude), but if you're going to enforce the laws it should have some sort of uniformity to it and right now that's not the case. Probably more a question of resources vs. priorities, but fundamentally I have an issue with something that is selectively legal.
-
Exactly. I was actully screaming "Woo-hoo!!" as I sat in the upper deck that day in the rain with my jaw on the ground watching the 10 year old kid the row in front of me start crying like someone had ripped his heart out. THAT was a win! Good times, good times.

Another drunken illegal alien arrested
The Avenger replied to Just Jack's topic in Off the Wall Archives
- Illegal aliens CAN purchase property - IF they get a mortgage. Some lenders are pretty lax on documentation required to write a mortgage (although with the failure of so manu subprime mortgages this will probably tighten up). - Sorry the facts about illegal immigrants paying taxes don't jive with what your get from Rush and Fox - as Coli said, if you don't like "the liberal media" you can get the data yourself, but you don't. - Your argument on hospitals seems silly. If you establish that the problem is with the uninsured and has nothing to do with whether said uninsured is legal or not I am not sure why you still think the problem lies with the illegals. Is it only OK for citizens to jack up your healthcare costs? I am not saying that illegal immigrants necessarily pay their fair share in taxes, but to say that all they do is draw resources and don't pay in anything simply isn't true. In many cases they are paying in for services at the rate citizens are but you single out thellegals as the cause of the problem - I guess its easier to pain everyone with a broad brush than understand that the same problems you get with illegal immigrants are often times present with citizens.
