i like chan and i dont mind him taking some blame for not having the players better prepared but at some point he has to start holding the players accountable too chan isnt dropping passes at a consistent and alarming rate at critical moments chan isnt committing holding penalties every other time spiller breaks off a nice run chan isnt missing tackles and letting guys reach over his head to catch balls right in front of his face i think hes just about reached his limit for taking cover for some of these guys. im gonna guess hes going to call somebody out here pretty shortly and shift the emphasis from him back to the players where much of it belongs. if he doesnt do it soon i think his long term future here is gonna get shakey. nice guy coaches who never call out their players when they deserve it almost always fail

Stay Classy Mr WIlson, pay Fred Jackson
Meathead replied to THE GASH STATION's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
ive been saying it all year and its still true now, freddie will be released prior to next season doesnt matter how good he is, and he is very good, it just is bad football business to give a big contract to a 31yo rb - especially when you have a former high first rounder waiting for his chance. if fred wants to stay here he can accept a modest pay increase and finish his career with probably one more highly productive season as the primary back and a couple more after that as the third down/rotation guy unfortunately fred is far more likely to pull a thomas jones, demand a much bigger raise than he will be offered, forcing his release, where he will end up on some other team for about the same money as the bills offered and not do as well on the field as if he had just stayed here you can see it coming a mile away. at least i can -

Bills, Jets, Pats: remaining schedules/playoffs
Meathead replied to truth on hold's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
bottom line is the bills have to win five to have a good shot at a playoff spot i dont think this team has any chance of winning the championship this season, but getting one playoff games experience would be absolutely huge for their development. unless they manage to win the division, unlikely, they would then likely lose any playoff game cuz as a wildcard they would play somebody pretty strong. but just getting there would be so educational for them, and it would make them much stronger going into next season. with another round of good drafting and key free agent additions i really think this squad will be a strong division contender -
Okay, so I just have to ask this about Fitz:

Do the bills have the best O-line in the NFL?
Meathead replied to buffalover4life's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
i was so right about this oline coming into this year. i said that bell, levitre, and wood would be much better after a full offseason following playing so many games at such a young age. i said that buddy was scouring the league to hand pick the guys he wanted from free agent waivers and he continually straight-talked his confidence that those guys would be good and it didnt just sound like coachspeak to me. i said that chan was blunt and straight-talked the fact that the pass blocking was pretty good last season but the run blocking was 'bad' and that they would focus intensely on that in order to make it better. finally i said the line would start out at least average, would get better as the season went on, and end up a strength of the team. and yeah, i mercilessly mocked the panicky whineaholics that were flipping the freak out in preseason. of course the point of all this is that i am completely awesome and i am totally the boss of you -
My prediction for "pleasant surprise of the week"

nothing demonstrates more clearly that haters gotta hate than chris kelsay at one point the guy admittedly got a contract that was too big for him. that was back in like '06 or something. then the next contract, the one hes currently playing on, only paid him around three mil a season, had a tiny bonus of two mil, and wasnt guaranteed. it was like he was paying back the bills for the previous contract. but did that matter to the haters? hell no two seasons ago kelsay was arguably the best defender on the entire team. he has a strong season that was a bargain for his threeish mil salary. did that matter to the haters? hell no after failing in his switch to outside linebacker where he couldnt cover a cripple riding a rascal scooter, he went back to only playing along the line and immediately began making plays. hes not much of a sack finisher but provided the only consistent pressure on the qb that this team has seen in three seasons. did that matter to the haters? hell no haters are like sharks, once they taste hate blood they gotta have more. they are like crack addicts, once they get their first puff of hate crack they just cant put down the hate crack pipe dont be a hate crack addict. but if you already are then its hopeless for you cuz you cant stop. admit it. get into a hate crack rehab program, which involved electroshock therapy and brain surgery. its the only way -
the teams would never do it cuz they wouldnt be able to agree who should get what share of the profits. and if you do it they will throw you in jail or at least confiscate your entire inventory other than that its a great idea

im calling bs on the op if you were sitting with seasons ticket fans and acting appropriately they would have backed you up. seasons tix holders in any stadium tend to be much more mature than single seat dufuses, especially true for giants fans who have been around and seen it all im pretty sure you were doing more than respectful cheering if you got kicked out of that section

Myth: 30+ Athlete = "Over the Hill"
Meathead replied to Got_Wood's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
i hate to exaggerate but ive said it a billion times - rbs hit the wall, case closed of all positions on the field, rb is the one you have the least ability to adapt to an aging body that is inevitably going to slow down. you can either burst through the hole and power through arm tackles to get to the second level or you cant - theres no opportunity to adjust to those rigid requirements and dont give me any crap about freddie having fewer nfl carries than normal feature backs his age: if you could put walter peyton in a ziplock bag from age fifteen to thirty and not play him at all he would STILL hit the wall no more than two years after that - if youre lucky. the human body changes its structure and you simply dont have the muscle explosion you need any longer. thus, face meet brick wall cough shaun alexnder cough thomas jones cough pretty much every rb ever the bills should give freddie some kind of bonus just to thank him for outperforming his current contract and to try to keep him happy the next two seasons. but if he thinks hes getting a franchise type deal at this stage, thanks freddie, we love you, but good bye. say hello to thomas jones when you bump into him at the cry myself to sleep it took me until thirty to kick ass in the nfl party. sux for you but thats showbiz -

of course this is a pornstachio defense. edwards was clearly in over his head last season and probably was glad as hell wanny became his new boss. edwards gets to call the plays but wannys influence is clearly visible, as it damn well should be theres a big difference to this seasons defense than last years. just as i predicted, players are much more often in position, which wasnt hard to see coming since edwards apparently didnt know how to coach them to be in the right places. as a result they are now making way more plays than last year, spending less time chasing guys and more time sticking them. granted they have struggled at times the last three games, and certainly had their worst game last week. but to say you cant see a big improvement over last season says ... well, i hate it when guys say you dont know football, but you dont know football they definitely need to continue to improve, and i think they will. but the idea that this isnt wannys defense more than it is edwards, and that they havent improved significantly, is preposterous -
