Bills-Dolphins Week 18 for the Division! SUNDAY NIGHT GAME
Dr. Who replied to BuffaloBillyG's topic in The Stadium Wall
They're not talking about it, because the likelihood of a tie is about the same as flipping a coin and having it land on its side. -
It would be absolutely criminal not to provide Josh Allen with real quality at the wr position from this draft. Too much talent at a premium position not to take advantage by grabbing more than one, and utterly foolish to cheap out by always trying to fill it with mid-round picks or marginal free agents.

Rd 2 Ladd McConkey -- he's going to be a good one.

Browns are #5, I think. -

Chiefs are sitting him. They are locked into the #3 seed. -
Why does this team always seem like it's running on fumes?
Dr. Who replied to T.E.'s topic in The Stadium Wall
I felt a lot better in the late 80's/early 90's. Now I really am running on fumes. -
So how are we feeling about Coach McDermott?
Dr. Who replied to Buffalo_Stampede's topic in The Stadium Wall
I am ambivalent. I think he is good, not great. He makes exasperating choices at times, and I hate the defensive time outs that rarely end well. There are too many times when the team comes out flat. It is inexplicable. Nonetheless, it's hard to find good coaches, and the players respect him and like him. (I discount the disaffected. They are a minority, and you will always find those.) So those who are in a hurry to get rid of him are short-sighted, if they presume an upgrade. It's a gamble. Personally, I'd prefer an offensive-minded specialist, because that is generally where the modern game is. I want someone who can get the best out of Josh Allen, and who will prioritize personnel on that side of the ball. It shouldn't be a revelation that we should be investing high level picks on WR for Josh Allen's prime years, or if not, or in combination, bringing in higher quality free agent receivers. Overall, I hope McDermott succeeds. I like him as a person, and it would be great if somehow the end result of this ridiculous roller-coaster of a season is a Super Bowl. If it doesn't come close to that, I would at least think about alternatives, but I don't expect Pegula to make a move short of open rebellion from the franchise qb.- 450 replies

Bills-Dolphins Week 18 for the Division! SUNDAY NIGHT GAME

Stinger is probably the best case for that injury. -
He's an interesting choice. Pegula doesn't have the imagination to entertain it, and he's not going to move off McDermott unless he is going to lose Josh Allen by sticking with him.
-
That would be unusual restraint, given that every game since the Philly loss has been essentially a playoff game. I hope there are more tricks in the bag, but the deficiencies of the WR room are not going to be fixed this year, though if injury is playing a role in Diggs current woes, one hopes he heals enough to become closer to his previous norm.

You can't really get a read on what Brady would be as an OC, since he is going to have to work with what Dorsey installed. There's also the problem of our subpar WR room, which any coordinator would have to deal with. Beane needs to make upgrading WR talent priority number 1, and 2, and maybe 3, though no doubt S and youth on the DL will continue to be the predilection of this regime (those are concerns.) If we beat Miami and make an extended run for the SB, that will no doubt weigh in his favor. Short of a SB victory, which would assure his position, I hope there is a genuine process of looking at qualified candidates.

Best coaching move of the game yesterday
Dr. Who replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall
So, McD should call time outs to stop his OC from making a foolish choice. His defensive TOs OTOH are usually a signal to the opposing OC that whatever he plans on doing, it's likely to result in points or at least a first down. -
Agree with most of this, though I think Rousseau is okay for late first round investment. They need multiple early picks at wr, and they need to hit on them. Lot of us were calling for Metcalf when he was on the board. If OBD doesn't get the message at this point, it's beyond dim. For now, the only answer is scheme guys open and win ugly. (And they should feature Kincaid, Shakir, Cook, and Playoff Lenny. No confidence in the wr room.)

What's the going rate for trolls nowadays? Pretty pathetic, minimum effort sadism, but I suppose if you don't mind the low pay, it's one way to piddle away one's finite amount of time upon this earth. -
Yep, spot on. We're winning ugly, but we're winning, and they are all basically win or go home.
-
I think this is probably right, but I'm not confident they know how to scheme receivers open.
-
If you ever get a Bills-Lions Superbowl, the poor refs won't know who to favor with selective incompetence.
-
And you left out the fiasco "home game" where the London Jaguars were waiting for us to arrive for a week, the injuries to Jones and Milano the week after losing Tre. It's really been a ridiculous year.

Bills will probably be #3 or #2 seed if they win out
Dr. Who replied to Giuseppe Tognarelli's topic in The Stadium Wall
Certainly possible. I don't know, and I'd rather wait until I see what happens this week, and who is healthy and not, before venturing a definitive guess. Is the division in play? Have the Bills locked up a spot in the post-season? The answers will further clarify incentives and deliberations regarding who does and does not play in week 18. -

Dr. Who replied to Giuseppe Tognarelli's topic in The Stadium Wall
Are you assuming a Dolphins' win against the Ravens and/or the Bills? Because neither of those seems more than a coin flip at best to me. So your scenario is nowhere near certain. -
Many folks here rightly think that the Bills are capable of beating any team. Pretty much everyone recognizes we are inconsistent. Many have frequently questioned the acumen of our head coach, and some wonder about officiating. Few are arrogant and dim in the manner you insinuate. It's a trollish exaggeration. It's absolutely true that Miami has only beaten one team with a winning record. That does not mean they are really not that good, but they have yet to establish they can beat clearly good teams. Dallas on the road is not a very good team. The Cowboys are not coached by a genius. And Miami did not win convincingly. If they beat the Ravens, the narrative will change. I have not read anyone arrogantly assuming an easy win on the road against a team with a prolific offense. Folks have noted the decimated Miami oline, and that Josh Allen normally plays well against the Fish. There is reason for guarded optimism, and naturally, many thought the season was over after the injuries that hit in London, and excruciating losses. We've rebounded like we did in 2021, so folks are both relieved and happy, thinking we might indeed be able to go on a Super Bowl run. If all you can do is mock that, it says more about you than the majority of posters here.

That's true, and I was living in Atlanta at the time. I don't care about the Falcons, but utterly chagrined that dopey playcalling allowed evil once again to triumph. McDermott might very well scheme a strong defense that could confuse Purdy. I just don't trust his in game adjustments or capacity to rise to the crisis of the moment. Allen can sometimes overcome our wrs that can't get separation, and zebra bias. It's a strange year, but I do think we could win it all.

McDermott vs. Shanahan
