  1. And I was walking down the street one day
A pretty lady looked at me
And said her diamond watch had stopped cold dead
    And I said

Does anybody really know what time it is?
    (Care) Does anybody really care?
(About time) You know, I can't imagine why
(Oh no, no) We've all got time enough to cry

Yes he wants players to get paid. But not in a way that shakes up the status quo. I don't blame him for that. He is an old dude now. I think 2023 was one of his best coaching jobs. To get that 'Bama team to the final 4 and to within a play of beating the eventual champs was a hell of a job. With any other coach that was a borderline top 10 team.

But there is no doubt in my mind that NIL and the transfer portal were factors in his decision. Nick spent 15 years at the top. He had a dynasty that likely never gets matched. But like it or not you can't just out recruit and outcoach folks now. That isn't the game anymore. And Saban decided the landscape that left wasn't for him.

And you would be 100% correct, AND; he did it without a great QB. I am not at all high on Milroe.

The 4 QBs on Alabama before Milroe were superb and yes, this includes Mac Jones (although that particular team could be considered to have had one of the best offenses of all time). Either way, Hurts, Tua, Mac, and Bryce were great college QBs. Milroe is not imo. He is a great runner but he very slow in terms of making decisions and takes unneccessary sacks. He throws a pretty good deep pass (especially post patterns) but he needs tons of work on the short stuff, but remember, this will be his 4th year in Tuscaloosa. Despite everything, to include a very poor start, they just missed making the title game and did defeat Georgia, in Atlanta.

Btw, I don't know much about DeBoer but I love the things that he is saying. Bama still has a TON of talent in the QB room and I am hoping for an open competition.

I mean I agree all that is relevant. But nobody has bitched about NIL and the transfer portal more than Nick. Not without cause I might add. He is the greatest college coach of all time IMO, and I have no college rooting interest so there is no subjectivity here - but I do think he just concluded he didn't want to compete in this new world.

GB, Coach Saban has stated NUMEROUS times that he wants players to get paid. He did however say that there should be some sort of system in place. With the latest Appellate Court ruling, it looks as if there will be no system. The judge even imposed a tremporary injunction against the NCAA from what I understand, and this was AFTER his decision to retire. Coach Saban said that he made his final decision 5 minutes before the 4 PM phone call and Terry (his wife) said she would support him either way.

My daughter told me that when judges impose these injunctions, they tend to think that their decision is very unlikely to be overturned. But keep in mind, I am not the lawyer in the family.

And his white knights never fail to show up. Not like he's still the most vocal about how NIL and transfer portal is the worst thing in the world after he "retired". If it wasn't the reason he retired he would have never said anything. Also I don't need Nick Saban to enjoy the success of my favourite program. He hated that he couldn't be the guy anymore and left crying about how it changed and it's not fair.

Not the guy? How many playoff appearances does he have since NIL? He has won more championships than your favorite school has with all of their coaches combined (if they ever won any).

That said, don't be weighed down by jealousy and/or depression.  Do feel better.

Nick Saban quit because he couldn't control the NCAA like he used to. Mark Emmert stepping down and "legal bags" as they were called at the start of NIL meant he no longer could cry foul when other schools with big time financial boosters could provide kids the opportunity to make money at home and not the illegal cars and cash bags from Bama

Right. It had absolutely nothing to do with the fact that he already won seven National Titles and is 72 years old.

Did he need the money? No, because he owns a 17.5 million dollar house, two Mercedes Benz dealerships, a Ferrari dealership, and a hotel. That doesn't matter either.

His wife has been patient for decades with Nick being away from home while constantly recruiting and working 16 hour days. Now he is a grandfather and would finally like to spend more time with his family. That makes no difference, right?

The jealousy folks have and exhibit towards Coach Saban and The University of Alabama Crimson Tide never ceases to amaze me. Imagine how great it would it be for you if your favorite team and their coach was even fractionally as tremendous as Saban and the Tide!

  7. Bus stop, wet day, she's there, I say
    "Please, share my umbrella"
Bus stop, bus goes, she stays, love grows
    Under my umbrella

All that summer, we enjoyed it
    Wind and rain and shine
And that umbrella, we employed it
    By August, she was mine

those backup LB's may not be getting NIL deals now or anything specific. however, just 10-20 years ago they would be getting rental cars in someone elses name if they were at all decent or had a chance to impact the program in a year or two. they would be getting perks at local restaurants, bars, movie theatres, etc.

i know 1 player of a division 1 school that got a new rental car every two weeks or so provided by a booster. he went to almost all of his classes and was a top academic performer. this athlete was responsible for taking recruits on tours, which also gave him access to money set aside for them - his meal card always was overflowing. the guy was a backup most of his career and never went pro. by his guess he was able to pull in $20k a year from these perks.

I am almost certain that they are getting paid. The starters that they will be replacing are both going to be early draft picks. One (Dallas turner) might even be in the top 10.

As I implied above, I doubt that this is the situation at most schools.

  9. I think that some of this depends on the school.

For instance, Alabama has at least 3 outside linebackers that are VERY good players but have not yet cracked the starting lineup. It would have probably been a mistake for them to declare before they had a chance to fully demonstrate their skills.

In terms of watching college football. one of my favorite aspects of it is watching kids develop into great players. Maybe we will see more of this with NIL but I don't know.

  10. I don't mind when you say
    That you're going away
I just don't wanna be lonely
And I don't care if we share
    Only moments a day
I just don't wanna be lonely

I'd rather be loved and needed
Depended on to give a love I can't give
When you're gone, when you're gone
I just don't want to be lonely
    I'd rather be loved

Dickerson was a GREAT radio personality.

I have fond memories of his very entertaining shows.   That show couldn't exist in WNY today because you can't REALLY be critical of the Bills and keep a job in local radio or tv.

One of those great memories is hearing @Bill from NYC regularly calling into his postgame and expressing his Bills pride as we drove home from games.

Dickerson was not a particularly successful coach but Casper Milquetoast.......as Dickerson used to call Marv Levy........had mostly sh!tty coaches anyway.

Those late 80's and 90's Bills were totally driven by an outstanding personnel department.

Chuck Knox brought a really good group of scouts with him from the Rams and they beget guys like Polian, Butler, AJ Smith and the great Dwight Adams.    Buddy Nix was a really good scout in his day too.

Very sad news. Looking back those were fun times.

What I don't understand is why we are willing to accept that certain dogs have certain behaviors because of breeding, such as an instinct to herd, but we won't also recognize that other dogs have been bred to kill things. The point of every terrier is to hunt and kill something, it just is. Most of them are small so the damage they can do is limited and most of them are no longer selected for that instinct so it is lessened over time, just like any other dog breed group.

Airdale Terriers are fairly big but I have never come across a mean one. I would get one in a second but my wife is highly allergic to dogs and cats. I am however told that they will eat your furniture if they don't get proper exercise.

  13. I was disappointed but the series was so good I didn't need to sulk about it lol.

Now if one wants to discuss simply awful endings, why not start with "Game of Thrones." That end episode was trite to the max and brutally ridiculous.

They're standing on the brink of emptiness
No words I know of to express
    This emptiness

Got my  laptop now. Using a phone to navigate web boards  is crap.

Thank you everyone for the prayers and well wishes..

Got put on the waiting list mid Jan. They say  the average wait time is 2-5 years. Get a call at noon on Valentines day. We get there at 2 PM. Hospital says the operation should be at 8 PM. 8 Comes and goes tell me it will be  at 7:30 AM. Tell me the donor was a 40 year old and by the delay it must have been from out of town.  Go down then  and get put under. Sister told me  ii was done around 10. Don't remember anything  before 4. Have an incision from near my navel  over to the right where they put the kidney in.

Had a foley catheter. That was taken out Thursday. Strange sensation but didn't  hurt. Said the next morning the kidney was producing urine. Sometime it has to be "jump-started.  Had 3  dialyses and 1 long one. That 5 hr one drew 3L of waste. Wednesday night they moved me to the  burn unit because they needed the space in the ICU. and then Friday night up to the renal floor. Can walk to the bathroom, with help of course.

My oxygen level was low. put me on a Bi PAP machine for 24 hrs. Pure torture.  Nose and lips total dried out and had swollen nose from  the mask.Hen they put me pn a noisy  high flow cannula and know on a regular cannula. Mighttake me off of it tonight.

Hang in there brother. You're going to make it!

I wouldn't trade Josh Allen for anything.  Keep Mahomes' wife and brother the hell away from this team.

People used to ask if I would trade for Brady or the Hoodie for one ring, and I said no.  Same answer with Mahomes.

Also, absolutely no one could have predicted Mahomes was going to have the career he's had.  He fell to 10 for a reason.  Yes, some people thought he had potential, but at the time, no one was harping on the Bills for that trade

    Not quite true LOL.
