If you're going to blame McDermott for drafting Elam who didn't even fit his scheme you got to give him the credit for drafting Josh allen lol
Brandon Bean gets the credit for all the good pics and McDermott gets the credit for the bad? That's a pretty dumb Way To Think
Brandon Bean has his fingerprints all over this team also.. he's been an assistant GM or a general manager for over a decade he has a lot on his resume
Why would McDermott draft a guy in Elam when he he doesn't fit his system? That has Brandon Bean all over it... Because GM's take athletes and try to make coaches coach them
... A coach wouldn't pound the table for a guy who doesn't fit his system
There is no spreadsheet that says this is a McDermott decision and this is beans which is why this argument on two Bills drive is dumb... If you think McDermott was in control give him credit for every single decision including Josh Allen
Or you can give the GM credit and blame for general manager decisions and the coach the credit and the blame for coaching decisions
You missed most of my point, but unlike you; I'm not going to throw the word "dumb" around. At least not yet.
What I said was that when McDermott traded away the Mahomes pick, he had ZERO way of him knowing for sure that Josh would be there. The Bills needed a quarterback desperately and took a cornerback instead. Yeah, I know. White was "good." 🙄 They very well could have been stuck with Rosen. Do you think that Josh was simply a lock to be drafted by the Bills after they passed on Mahomes? Do you believe that McDermott was thinking, No worries, we will get Josh Allen next season. Is this what you truly believe?
If you still don't understand, I would be glad to try to explain this to you in a PM.

I mean the one draft he ran he drafted one in round 2. He wasn't very good, granted, but they traded up to select one. In the 8 Beane drafts 1 in the first three rounds.
Again, we will find out very soon what Beane does not that he is unleashed by McCorner.

We are even lower since 2017.
Yes, the year McDermott arrived. He cared little about receivers.

He was a failure as a head coach and will go down as one the worst GMs in NFL history. He was unthinkably bad as a GM, and brought in his clone Jauron to make things worse. That said, I wouldn’t quite call him a failure as a coach. He was good at soothing egos.

In the mornin,' when you rise
Do you think of me and how you left me cryin'?
Are you thinkin' of telephones, and managers
And where you got to be at noon?
You are living, a reality I left years ago
It quite nearly killed me
In the long run, it will make you cry
Make you crazy and old before your time
And the difference between me and you
I won't argue right or wrong
But I have time to cry, my baby -
AJ McCarron is now the coach of the Birmingham Stallions. He has a podcast and seems like he has great knowledge of football. It would not surprise me if he is successful.

An awful lot of that lack of SB success was due to coming up against four teams that matched up extremely well against us.
We were built in Dan Marino's division, to compete with Marino's Fins. No great running teams, no real power games. We faced four teams in SBs, all from the NFC East, in which the teams were built around a power run game, which was our weakness.
We were a 3-4 defense without one DL over 278. Hansen was that guy, Jeff Wright was the 3-4 nose tackle, traditionally a giant, and he went 274. Bruce was 262, but he was not the problem. But that was an extremely light DL, built to pressure passers.
We matched up poorly, and all four teams ran all over us.
I am not the biggest Marv Levy fan by any means, but the above post is impossible to argue with.

I totally agree. Kickers are making insanely long kicks these days. I am all for the NFL adopting this rule.

I mean…we did acquire IMO a legit WR1We did, but players get hurt and our QB is Josh Allen, probably the best player in football and a certain hall of famer. Giving him weapons and protection gives us the best chance at winning.

Mel Kiper has us drafting a CB with our 1st round pick in his latest mock. SMH!
Sometimes I think these draft pundit just throw stuff against the wall. So we should draft CB in the first round for depth?
26. Buffalo Bills
Avieon Terrell, CB, Clemson
The Bills' tight salary cap led to some cornerback changes this offseason, with the team cutting Dane Jackson, trading Taron Johnson and letting Tre'Davious White hit free agency. They have Christian Benford and 2025 first-rounder Maxwell Hairston in place, but the depth is shallow. Terrell is great in man coverage, showing the ability to stick on receivers. He didn't come away with any interceptions last season, but he broke up nine passes.
Of course. Anyone following this team knows full well that a first round corner is a distinct possibility under any conditions.
Since 1990, the Bills have used their first pick of the draft no less tha 13 times on a defensive back. Admittedly Ronald Darby was a 2nd round pick, whereas we had no first rounder that season. This amounts to 37.11% of our first picks and this is an utter disgrace. This was a prominent factor in our team sucking for a long period of time. Josh Allen (an all time great) made us a winning team, not defensive backs. McDermott didn't start this trend. He continued it. From 1990-1994. 4 of our 5 first round picks were defensive backs.
If I was Josh Allen and the Bills do it again this season I would ask for a trade.

I think that the Broncos got a steal. This would have been a wondeful trade for the Bills. Josh to Waddle could have possibly been the most productive combo in the NFL.

If the OP's post is true (and I don't doubt it) it does give me an uneasy feeling that we will once again neglect weapons for Josh. This would be yet another catastrophic mistake by the Bills.
Nothing new.

Well this does give me slight pause d/t Andy’s history with athletic QB’s. I am not expecting Fields to look like vintage Mahomes or McNabb, but if he turns into KC version of Alex Smith, the Chiefs will be a solid team. They could be fighting for a playoff spot when Mahomes is ready to return.
Agreed, however I do think that Alex Smith was 10x better than Fields.
Jmo.

If McDermott pulled the strings on 1st round picks for Elam and Hairston, which picks and signings were Beane's decisions?
That is a fair question. My thing is that I believe that McDermott had the final say. I don't believe there can possibly be a 50/50 split when it come to power in a business. Do you?
Remember, Beane wasn't here when McDermott traded the Mahomes. McDermott didn't hire him until the following season.

I don't exactly agree with this, but I get your point. I was talking about the drafting by the two teams after they got their quarterbacks. I didn't say that, but that's what I was thinking. Chiefs draft choices since Mahomes have been a lot like Bills since Allen - some nice players, some okay players, some misses. No studs. It's just very hard to find a stud drafting 30th.
And the complete analysis of the White-Mahomes trade isn't nearly as bad as you suggest. That trade gave the Bills a stud corner, maybe the best first round pick the Bills made in the McDermott era, and it gave the Bills the ammunition they needed to move up for Allen the next season. Allen may or may not catch Mahomes in Lombardis, but at the end of their careers, Allen may have proved to have been the better QB.
I really do get what you are saying but I wish to make two points:
1) When McDermott made that stupid trade, we had no quarterback. It said quite a bit about his dumb way of team building. He had absolutely no way of knowing that Josh would be there for us. He really might not have known much at all about Josh when he made that trade. I mean he was a defensive coach and Josh played at Wyoming.
2) McDermott didn't stop with this idiocy. He traded up for Elam in the 1st and spent yet another #1 on Hairston, this despite the need of weapons for Josh, the best player in football imo. This held Josh, the Bills, Mr. Pegula, and of course the fans back.
As far as White being a "stud," I don't argue the fact that he was "good," or even very good. The thing is, we had heard that tune sung before. Whitner was "good" but we had a terrible OL and took him anyway. Same thing with "good" McKelvin and a host of others. As recently as last season, McDermott's top five picks were defenders. This is insane imo. My oldest daughter doesn't watch football any more. She can't stand the violence. That said, she coulkd have conducted a better draft than McDermott did in 2025.
Thankfully, times have changed and McDermott is gone. I am generally not happy when people lose their jobs. However, McDermott is a multi-millionaire. I wish him well and think that he will be just fine. I am now optimistic about the Bills, to the point that I firmly believe that if Josh is healthy we will reach and win the Super Bowl.
In any event, thank you for the dialogue.

The Chiefs haven't done any better in the first round of the draft.
Sorry, but I'm afraid that they did. They drafted Mahomes (after McDermott traded the pick to them). We moved way down and grabbed a cornerback. This alone makes up for some of KC's misses. You can't just undo mistakes like this.
Other than this I agree with your post.

What are you growing this year?
I drew out a plan to incorporate various colored peppers (spicy ones too!) to add foilage, layers, & colors. I am excited for that.
So, what are you growing this year?
Try red cayenne peppers. I grow them (and bell peppers) every year. One plant will produce dozens of them. I remove the seeds, dice them, and mix them with scrambled eggs. I stake them because their stem is very thin, and strong wind can blow them over. I cheat and use half solution Miracle Grow. It works really well.
I also grow Beefstake, Better Boy, and Roma (plum) tomatoes.
