At the time, 13 seconds was an acute condition, like a bullet wound.  It was painful and traumatic. However, expectations were for a full recovery.  We now suffer from a chronic condition of having "reasons" every year for not getting past the divisional round.  There is no actual known cure for this chronic condition.

Some people either continue to have expectations for a better result next year, fueled more by hopes and prayers than expecations for important strategic, coaching or personnel changes.  Others cope by having lowered expecations and satisifaction that "making the playoffs every year is pretty darn good, certainly better than the drought". Others are just bummed out. All of these responses to the situation are reasonable, there really is no "right way" for fans to feel about the situation.

    Very good synopsis.

I however fall between those cracks. I am "bummed out" because there will be no coaching change and am pretty sure McDermott is unable to get us to the top. He was given too much power from day one and needs to go.

    Of course, jmo.

This would be Josh Reed becoming the number 2 after Price left. Shakir could put up really good numbers next year but he doesn’t have the attributes to threaten a defense enough as a number 2. He would get clamped on the outside by most corners. Hes absolutely perfect in his role. Let’s get a legit threat in the draft.

    Very good anology.

  3. Look, perhaps I'm a hypocrite. If it involved my daughter and a male teacher I would be happy to see him get the death penalty. Now, what this woman did was abusive and wrong  no doubt.

That said, life in prison for sleeping with a high school senior????? That is freaking excessive. Criminals with police records are shooting other people and can get sentenced to a year or two, if that. In NYC, career criminals are getting treatment for  being "mentally ill" in lieu of prison, this for stabbing random strangers and/or pushing them onto the subway tracks.

When I was a HS senior, I would have rather had sex with a teacher than been shoved in front of an oncoming subway train, but that's just me lol.

Leslie Von Houten was just released from prison. Life for this nutty teacher? No way!

doesn't involuntary commitment only come when someone is a potential harm to themselves/others?  i'm not sure if here's there yet, but this is the first time i was made aware of any of this.

It is extremely hard to get.

I remember a case of an 85 year old man in a rather wealthy neighborhood. His wife died and he lived alone. He started having all night parties with prostitutes, drug users, and probably drug sellers. His kids took him to court and the judge refused to have him committed. He told the judge that his kids just wanted his money. The neighbors (one of which was his goddaughter) were furious.

I left before the case was (if ever) resolved.

My friends brother has been acting strange for a few weeks. Especially while in public. He tries to keep himself covered up or hidden as much as he can. He double tinted the windows on his car. Covered all the windows in his house so you can’t see in or out. He mentioned to his cousin that he was being “gang stalked” and to look it up. He’s lost his job and relationship during this time and seems to blame everything on these “gang stalkers”. It doesn’t make sense why a groups of people would do the things he’s saying.

We looked it up and it seems like it’s caused by paranoia from drugs but there’s people claiming it’s an actual thing. I got attacked and banned when questioning it on Reddit.  His parents asked him to take an at home drug test and see a counselor. He passed the test but they’re not the most accurate and the counselor seemed to think he was normal but there’s times he is normal and then a switch flips. I think the counselor was before we knew he thought he was being gang stalked so idk if it was brought up.

Nobody is quite sure how to proceed.

He sounds as if he is in dire need of therapy, hospitalization, medication, or any combination of the three. I explained in a post above that involuntary hospitalization is extremely difficult to obtain.

I wish good luck to all involved.

Not just 2023 draft. Look at 2021 and 2022. Brad Holmes has done an excellent job. In  these three years they added:

    QB - Goff (Trade)

    RB - Gibbs (2023 Draft)

RB - Montgomery (2023 Free Agent)

    WR - Williams (2022 Draft)

WR - St Brown (2021 Draft)

    TE - LaPorta (2023 Draft)

    OL - Sewell (2021 Draft)

    DL - Hutchinson (2022 Draft)

    DL - McNeil (2021 Draft)

    LB - Campbell (2023 Draft)

LB - Anzalone (2021 Free Agent)

    LB - Barnes (2021 Draft)

    DB - Branch (2023 Draft)

    DB - Joseph (2022 Draft)

DB - Sutton (2023 Free Agent)

Plus a bunch of other guys that see the field all brought in the past couple seasons.

Agree 100%. Hutchinson, Williams, St. Brown, and Sewell are excellent players imo. Goff certainly has enough weapons and a very good OL.

Im interested what you think of them taking a S in Rounds 2 or 3?

Actually that is a great question!

I am unable to watch every college team and focus primarily on the SEC, Alabama specifically. I was extremely high on Brian Branch for years. I saw him play every phase of the position (S) and he was very good at it to include run stopping, pass defending. interceptions, and even blitzing. He is also said to be very smart. With the Bills picking at 28 I would have been OK with taking him late in round 2, and perfectly fine with taking him in the 3rd. Check him out in the playoffs today!

Are there other safeties as good as  or better than Branch? I'm sure there are, BUT; I would NOT place as high a priority on them as I would a WR or OL. My thing is that the best corner or safety in the world can only cover an NFL receiver for so long. Eventually, the WR will get open no matter who is covering them. Josh Allen is one of, if not THE most talented QBs that I have ever watched. He is a bigger John Elway. If he had receivers like Tyreek Hill and Jalen Waddle (and good protection) he would probably win the next 5 Superbowls . He might even do something similar with the Eagles wideouts. The focus needs to be on maximizing what Josh can do, not the freaking secondary. Levy cost us dearly by not replacing Kelly, Smith, Thurman and Reed when they were getting old. Instead, he focused on the secondary for many years and the decline began. His 2006 draft as GM set this team back for MANY years and I said that it would right here on this board.

In any event if I thought that a particular safety was a spectacular player, I would be reluctantly OK with a late 2nd round pick and fine with a 3rd.

Sorry to ramble but you asked LOL.

It's been annoying listening to Beane's excuses for the terrible mistakes with money and pro personnel in general in his first 2-3 seasons.    I've made that point here probably hundreds of times since then.

But I also give him some credit for cleverly avoiding taking any real responsibility for any of it.   That is the way of the con-man and fans eat that confidence up and bought him a lot of runway.  Smart.

And it's not like it's a house of cards with him,  he was just terribly unqualified as a personnel and salary cap man when he got the job and has been faking it til' he makes it in that regard.   As pure executive he was immediately a great hire to steady the ship for the Pegula's.   They needed that aspect of his job more than anything because they were floundering.   And I think his personnel work has greatly improved with experience and I expect that to continue.   But he still has ground to make up because of past mistakes.

I absolve Beane from much of the blame for some of the personnel decisions. For instance, do you think that it was Beane's  idea to trade up for Tre Edwards or Kaiir Elam? Or even to draft Ed Oliver at #9? These picks have McDermott written all over them imo, especially given the fact that he gave away Mahomes. Btw I am just as happy with Josh but that is not my point.  We lucked into Josh after McDermott made that rather stupid move..

We will find out soon enough who is in charge. Any GM in his right mind would want our 2024 draft to focus on wide receivers for Josh and to reinforce the OL which is aging at (at least at center). Doing this makes sense from a football and an economic point of view. Better receivers and a healthier Josh will draw a lot more fans than a safety, as well as win more games. If we draft a safety in round 1 (which I sadly expect) or even a corner, do you think that this will come from Beane?

I just can't visualize this but as always, jmo.

Ryan O'Halloran: Free-agent, cap situation means Brandon Beane has to get defensive in draft

That doesn't seem to jibe with the general sentiment on this board.  Please read the article first, then discuss.

    Unbelieveable. :(

  13. Bills Fans are clearly the best fans of any team in any sport imo. I'm a fan of the Crimson Tide and it has been incredibly easy and tons of enjoyment. Alabama Fans are rabid, but being a Bills fan involves a certain amount of pain.

The truth is that we shouldn't get THIS emotionally involved. Life is too short to suffer for days after an insane loss. We shouldn't take wide rightS so hard. We should not wince in pain when our receiver drops an EASY TD pass with no time left and blames God. That said, the fact is that we do anyway.

I knew that we would miss that kick this past Sunday, and I knew that we would lose the 13 second game and I'm not proud of this. And, I guarantee that I am not alone. It was merely a defense mechanism, one that took 40 or so years to develop. I don't suffer as much as I used to. I'm too old and life is too short but the pain from these debacles still exists.

The thing is, I would not trade being a Bills Fan for being a fan any other NFL team under any conditions. Being a Bills Fan has helped teach me (and even my daughters) never to give up. I have made friends at the stadium and on this board. I will B word and moan (especially about almost every draft LOL) but I will be back to the stadium and remain a Bills Fan on my death bed.

Don't know if they will have anything worth getting.

Isn't the majority of their best players graduating seniors?

Not sure. I heard that their OL was old.

I don't foresee any significant changes in management and I doubt that they will ever put the weapons around him that he had in 2020 again............so that would portend similar play style and results for a few years........and by then he might not have the ability to bully his way to victory when all else fails.

Why do you think this? Is it because of the salary cap, McDermott refusing to stop his focus on defense, or both?

  19. Smart move by a great coach. It is harder (and often pays more) to coach a prominent college team than an NFL team.  College coaches have to spend untold hours recruiting, and travelling around to do so. Saban travelled so much that he often used a helicopter. College coaches have to go to recruit's homes, and now many of the parents (or even friends) act as agents.

Very smart move for Harbaugh and it wouldn't surprise me at all if he is quite successful.
