    Exactly. These refs are looking for the needle in the haystack due to the ridiculousness of the rule book and miss the obvious common sense things.

    The defenders objective is to hinder the pass catcher. The pass catchers objective is to run a route to catch a pass. If you’re gonna let pass catchers blatantly impede the defender, then they’re not pass catchers. They’re blockers. That’s why offensive linemen are not allowed downfield. The Pats player wasn’t even pretending that he was running a route.

    You think Belichik coached him to blatantly try to pick Wallace like that? They haven’t won all those Super Bowls and Division titles because of ref incompetence. That was a dumb play by the Pats player.

    It wasn’t a smart play. The Pats player had his eyes on Wallace the whole time and was lining him up like he was gonna block him. Refs blew the call.

    This. It was so blatantly a pick, I have no idea how it wasn’t flagged in real time. The guy wasn’t even pretending to run a route.

    Thanks. He’s more than one yard beyond the line of scrimmage and definitely looks like he significantly hinders.

    Does the rule state physical contact or impede? You could argue the Pats player was so blatant that he met the definition of ‘impede’ without actually making physical contact.

    How is the flag not thrown real time? That’s the bigger question. It took a slow motion replay to see that there wasn’t contact. Real time you’d think that you have to throw a flag there.

    His length and range are so damn unique for a MLB. Brady loves those play action fakes where he draws the LB to the line of scrimmage and then lobs the ball over their head for easy completions. Edmunds completely disrupts that with his length and range.

    I think it’s decision making more than anything. Defenses still have to respect his arm strength. Just keep the chains moving. Stop looking for highlight plays all the time.

    Low snap plus slow release gave Pats extra time to get in. DiMarco did the right thing and held the inside rusher off. You gotta be able to get a punt off even if guy coming from outside is unblocked. Different story on inside pressure.

    Just seems like he takes a painfully long time to get his punts off. And New England identified this and got a block and forced another bad punt with pressure.

    That was huge. It took away the run on 4th and 3. And it’s a lot easier to run it in on 3rd and 1 than 3rd and 2.
