As for the mother of the suspect and law enforcement reply, well, that pushes me more in the direction of 'maybe I oughta get one because at the end of the day, there is no rhyme or reason to who is in the wrong place at the wrong time'. Hey Alf- Don't want to hound you, but about an hour before you replied here I replied to one of your earlier posts. I really am interested in your reply, mostly because I think my perspective is very reasonable. I mean, truly the way many non-gun-loving-ok--with-reasonable-legislation-but-interested-in-protecting-the-family Americans look at this issue. 100 times out of 100, a guy with Task's perspective doesn't concern me. I know many guys like him, and if the $h$t hits the fan at the local mall I'm hoping he's the next game over at Dave and Busters. See, at the end of the day, I think a guy like me is as big an impediment to what folks like you are suggesting, and I really have never gotten a reply that makes me want to move into your voting column on gun control. I try, I just usually get some vague shoulder shrug or the conversation ends. And, to repeat, I've never owned a gun nor had a major desire to own one. If you get a moment, let me know your thoughts. If you prefer not to, well, that's fine as well. I am perplexed, btw, that at this stage of my life, I had to start a post with the words "Hey Alf", and I will never forgive you for that.

Don't want to hijack the discussion you are having with the other folks, but this question constantly pulls me in different directions. Why would I not want to buy an AR15, own it lawfully, learn to use it, and keep it for my own safety? I see news stories constantly about extremists attacking ordinary citizens and the formula seems to be a whole 'lotta extremists--often in masks--attacking one overmatched citizen. Add to that the challenge of leadership in cities like Baltimore and Portland advising the cops to stand by while the thumping occurs, as if the set-upon party is expendable. Then, there is the recent video of law enforcement personnel being doused with water or worse in NYC, and getting back to some our cities, the stand-down orders where violent pos are allowed to destroy personal property unmolested. Now, we have leading political operatives revealing the names/addresses/employers of American citizens for the sole purpose of intimidation, exposing them to the same type of violent extremists who discussed themselves stabbing an American senator in the heart in his home, and filmed it like disciples of Charles Manson. And that's where we are at....today. The threat to me personally is still relatively low, but certainly higher than it was 10 years ago. At the same time... The way I see it, the people have nothing to fear from me. I'm mentally stable (mostly), I work for a living, I judge people on the content of their character, and present a threat to no one. At the same time, the impression I'm getting is that I'm viewed as an enemy to many people for the things I think and believe. I own property on a commercial strip not far from a good-sized city, worked hard to get it and harder still to keep it--and while I would hate to see it set ablaze by masked thugs, it's just property. However, if it's set ablaze by masked thugs when it's occupied by my employees and myself, well, that is a whole 'nother story. I'd think in the scenarios outlined, 8 rounds is insufficient. What say you?

Good thought but unworkable: German guns are cold and distant, and to be frank they really just want to rule the world. Italian guns are prone to emotional outbursts. Irish guns are generally knee deep in the sauce by 10am. Swiss guns, well they want to get a feel which way the winds are blowing before they commit to anything. Russian guns? yeah, good luck.
