I'd say after the GW years and failure to progress that there would be some unhappy pros at Buffalo. We sign Mularkey and Hurray, all that will change and we're 9-7. However, by week 8 the next yeat, the Offensive co-ordinator is effectively neutered, Moulds is pissed, there's a 2 headed QB, Magahee runs out of interest from sitting on 3rd's and Adams is riding the pine. We regress to 5-11. Heck, at the end of the year the Coach QUITS and the GM jumps. Leaders like Malloy are injured and playing through and the O-line has got no idea what's going on. Is see some positives from this draft. Yeah, a lot of folk are critical of the values placed on some of the prospects, but i tend to agree. I'd tend to beleive these guys are here to show that they belong, no matter there draft value. Unlike Big Mike, whom seemed happy to be hanging out in the millionaires club rather than aiming for the HoF, or at least peer respect. I also like the Fletcher/ Whiten raport and the old collegiate connections. This should see better team chemistry, something sadly lacking. Maybe then, some pressure off of Losman to be the "Bills" personality will allow him to play better as well. Despite what the "experts" have predicted, i've only read good things from the players, things it's been awhile for a Bill to speak it seems.

I thought that McCargo was an interesting pick at # 26, only from what i've read in Mock (right word) drafts. I have no idea of college football- in Oz it's not shown on pay TV very often, maybe a 'Bowl game. The only other way is the 'net. Anyway, I noted that Rd #1 had 3 Dt's taken. Then Nada in Rd # 2 whatsoever (?) and only 2 (Dvoracek and Wroten) in Rd #3. Overall, then that's 5 DT's out of nearly 100 picks. I can remember drafts when it's been almost 5 DT's taken Rd # 1 alone. Maybe McCargo was a Rd #2 or Rd # 3 prospect but after the 2 higher rated DT's- Bunkley and Ngata went (after all we'd taken Whiten) there was such an obvious drop off in DT talent that ML and Co. felt the need to gamble in order to get a DT. Is that possible?

3. Buffalo Bills: The Bills were in a great spot at No. 8. They had at least two teams -- Denver and Minnesota -- calling up offering draft choices to move up. Those teams were looking for quarterbacks. The Bills could have worked a deal with the Eagles, who were considering a move to No. 8 to take a defensive tackle. Taking a safety, Donte Whitner, at No. 8 instead of accepting one of those deals just wasn't a good value. Sure, maybe they weren't getting offers that matched the trade value chart, but wouldn't it have been better to move down and get anything extra. They would still have been able to get Whitner. The Bills feared losing Whitner to the Lions, who didn't get Michael Huff at No. 9. That wasn't going to happen because the Lions were taking linebacker Ernie Sims if they didn't get Huff, who went to the Raiders. The Bills went a little too conservative. I'm a little way away over the other side of the Pacific, but can someone add a little more detail than this? 1. So we could have worked a deal but didn't. I'm sorry, that's one too many for the "could've, would've, should've" brigade for me. 2. Whitner was taken because Huff went the pick before and we thought we may lose a safety that we rated as at least a #1 pick to a team that we really thought wanted a saftey as well- the Lions. So, low and behold, after Huff and Whitner are gone, the Lions take Big Ernie. 3. The Bills went a little too conservative...Seriously? How conservative was it to take a player most draft "betnicks" had as a mid teen to low 20 player. We traded, what a 2nd (#42) and a 3rd to move back into round 1 and draft a DT some thought could have been available as late as round 3, possibly even 4. And then we chose another Buckeye (long tradition of Buckeye CB's) deep into the first day, round 3 when some I've read some draft "betnicks" (damn Modrak and that word) had as a very late #1 or at least #2 and the NFL draft tracker rates him a 6.19 (or something). I am suprised as everyone not over 80 or with white hair connected with the Buffalo Bills that we took Whitner and McCargo. But I'd hardly call the dealing for them as conservative. Risky, maybe. Conservative it aint. I guess if the Bills were preparing my Superannuation and the draft was there risk/ return I would be a little pissed. That said, I hope Whitner comes to camp and LIGHTs everyone up.

Any relation to Mario Hagan?

Somewhat. But it's more the way my pants are bunching up... I'll reserve my enthusiasm until after Day 1.

Even though, I come from Australia I can tell you that NFis nowhere near OP. I have stayed at the Holiday in...heck, I'd sleep out on Hamered-a-lot's front lawn with the cost of fuel...provided "Buddy" doesn't attack me.

I noticed that. Is that sort of like that Scotsman, Phil McCrevis or Ben Doover?

I think Reed got kicked out of a game against Cleveland, maybe 1995 at Cleveland- was that one?

Ok, in Australia, the correct pronounciation would be "Mate." As in G'day Mate.

The tale of the tape. On one hand Mamula's thinking, "ah Crap, what 'til the position coach sees me being blocked by Lonnie Friggin' Johnson." And the other from Lonnie Friggin' Johnson "Holy Crap, look at me blocking the 7th overall pick, Mike Mamula. Wow. Wow. I can't wait to get out of this series and tell the guys."

I kind of got lost in this thread with blue being something other than, well blue. I don't know if we have this argument if we're 12-4 rather than 5-11. We'll see...

Like, the Bills could get a sick uniform. That'd be, like, totally, y'know, like sick. And then, like I rang that owner from Dallas and he was like, totally mental with the new CBA Ralph reworked. Daddy, I want a Superbowl ring, NOW... -

In Australia it has it's own special meaning, but something tells me the editor wouldn't like it going further.

The Haloti Ngata Profile By Ourlads Scouts

Slow twitch player. Doesn't push the pocket with strength. Questionable functional strength. Gets pinned by a single block. Stands on the line of scrimmage. Jogs in pursuit. Gets driven off the ball in goal line defense. Some weeks ago i posted his Olympic weightlifting totals, which for a man of his size and in particular, his potential draft position (#8 Buffalo) were quite poor. Good on him for doing those lifts though. These comments, particularly about "slow twitch" bare that out (...and yes i do know he's a footballer first and formost and thta some folk have No idea how Olympic lifters train). I'd hope to take someone with more power than strength- thus more ability to penetrate and push their ground. The description is pretty negative stuff. We'll see...
