  1. I don't think it's rare at all for QB's to not get dinged up. Heck, if you look at the guys that started for most teams in the NFL, you would see QB's that played from the preseason through the playoffs (to the degree applicable). We didn't see Brock Osweiler coming in for Peyton Manning or Jordan Palmer taking snaps for Jay Cutler. What we need is for our starter to stay healthy and on the field, and not to assume that this year will look like last.
  2. Kind of a silly poll. Only 1 team in the NFL allowed less than 30 sacks last season. ONE! I know we added offensive line talent, but can anyone really say with a straight face that because of that, the team has improved from one of the worst (28th) to one of the best at protecting the quarterback. If the baseline were somewhere in the 40's, the pointless poll may have a point.
  3. More fumbling and a higher rate of sacks per pass attempt. None the less had similar unremarkable numbers under center. This is his 4th year in the NFL. Sure he lacked a significant amount of starts. That doesn't mean he's not a veteran. 3 years in the NFL is a pretty long time.
  4. Solid backup without the potential to be anything more than that. I don't want to see him starting any more than I wanted to see Fitzpatrick, Kolb, Young, or any of the other cast-offs that this team has decided to sign. We live (or die) with EJ for 2014 and then see where this team goes from there.
  5. You beat me to it, and this is EXACTLY right. That's precisely what they originally signed Mark Anderson for.
  6. Not sure how you feel about it, but I'm a bit concerned about the entire cast from a health perspective. Besides Chandler, Smith sitting out of OTA's. Caussin missed the last two seasons with an ACL and then a hip injury. To me, it then comes down to Moeaki and Gragg. If Moeaki dings up easily, that leaves this team woefully thin at TE.
  7. Hughes sole job is putting pressure on the quarterback and that's what he does. He's proven he can do it, so I'm not sure why this team would ever consider moving on from him, particularly when he just came off a 10.0 sack season. Hardly shabby.
  8. I like Scott Chandler for his size (6-7, 265) over Moeaki (6-3, 255). That said, last year was the second straight season that Chandler has had to deal with knee issues. If it's speed at TE that the team is looking for, I question why they wouldn't have Chris Gragg on the field more. He's the same size as Moeaki, but has run 4.5 40's. I personally don't care who wins the starting job. As long as they give us decent production and take some pressure off our WR's, I'm good with it.
  9. Far too much money tied up in Mike Williams to consider cutting him. Ridiculous suggestion really. He would have to pull an Aaron Hernandez to get cut from this team.
  10. Don't get all crazy and start posting facts Kirby. People love conspiracy theories and media hype over actual facts. At the end of the day, there's no chance that they spend hundreds of millions of dollars without doing significant econometric studies and feasibility analysis. The fact that those studies and analysis are not shared with the public is irrelevant.
  11. He can be unstoppable when he gets the ball. The problem is that he's not getting the ball enough. That is one thing about this team that I just don't get. They say they're going to "give him the ball until he pukes" and then don't. I know he was dinged up at times, but even when he appeared to be healthy, they just weren't giving him the football. Maybe this years contract year will be a motivator. I just don't know.
  12. I get Hackett's goal. Run plays such that opposing defenses can't effectively substitute and make adjustments. It requires execution though. In terms of some of the comments about adjusting the game plan when they're ahead, I think that's how you lose the close games. Playing "not to lose" is folly, particularly in situations where what you're already running is working. To say teams shouldn't adjust when things are NOT working is stupid too. If a team is experiencing 3 and outs fairly consistently while running the hurry up, then they should stop running the hurry up. It's football 101. If any fan believes that this team would look like a well oiled machine right out of the gates with new coaching, playbook, players, etc., you're setting your expectations way too high. If they don't appear to be improved this year, I will be disappointed. Let's wait and see what happens though before passing judgement.
  13. The biggest detraction from the value of a live game is all of the commercial timeouts. When you're watching a game in HD on a 56" screen at home, you can simply click over to another game. I'm not saying that the stadium experience doesn't also have value, but the difference in what you ultimately pay to watch the game MUST come into play. Is $300 for 512 games really less valuable than paying $200 a seat for decent seats and $50 for a couple beers and bad food at one game? It's a no brainer. I will pay to see a playoff game and have done so in the past. I have no problem paying $1,000+ for a seat in that situation as it's a once in a lifetime experience. In the meantime, I'll enjoy sharp close up views of the action on my home monster-tron, with cheap drinks and much better food.
  14. Babins career is over and he's well on the wrong side of 30 (34+). To boot, the Bills have no need for a LDE. Lawson and Hughes will be the primary pass rushers on that side and they proved last year that they were up to the task. Makes me think that the OP is either Jason Babin himself, his agent, or a relative.
  15. Ponder took a sack more than 1 out of every 10 pass plays last season. Jennings himself said that he checks down way too much (which he does). You only get so many chances to improve in the NFL and then you get replaced. At this point, Bridgewater is the starter, Cassell is the backup and Ponder is the odd man out. No way I see it any differently than that.
  16. Exactly who is "Marion"? I think the phrase is Jesus Mary and Joseph. I'm not religious, but I don't think Marion is party to the discussion.
  17. Graham was all speed and no hands and Hogan hasn't done anything measurable in either his college or professional career. They should cut both of them. I would be shocked if the team kept 2 kickers. Just not necessary when this team needs to be scoring touchdowns.
  18. Honestly, this is pretty much not news at all. I'm really not sure where Pettine was going with the commentary, but it's been dismissed by many. That includes Ryan, who for the most part has had his ass handed to him by Belichick (7/11 wins head to head). The Patriots have simply put a better product on the field for a long time and they have they whiniest little girl throwing the ball around of any team in the NFL, that gets the calls. Just hit Brady. That's all I want to see this year. Knock his ass down and beat him up. Win or lose, that will make me happy.
  19. Anyone that doesn't see this as a highly politicized issue really isn't paying attention. If anyone doesn't happen to be aware, there are over 1,000 high schools (including some on Indian reservations) that carry mascot names that could be considered disparaging to Indians. Redskins, Braves, Indians, Warhawks, Redhawks, Redbirds, and many others. There's only one reason the Washington Redskins are getting so much attention and media. They're big business while these other places are not. When you ask yourself whether there is an unfair amount of media on this NFL franchise, ask yourself how much attention the Carthage Redman are getting. The answer should be pretty obvious.
  20. Fitz was just an average quarterback for Buffalo and will be just an average quarterback for Houston. Can Houston win some games? Sure. If their defense remains healthy and they sport out a healthy dose of a revived Arian Foster, they can win some games. They get the benefit of playing the Jags and Titans twice each, who are in even worse shape. Fitz is never going to be a top-10 talent in the NFL. He simply is what he's shown us he is pretty much every year. The comparisons to EJ are pretty stupid. There's just not enough data on a guy who was injured for much of last season and hasn't played many games. With EJ, there's a chance that he gets it and improves.
  21. Unable to comprehend the pro level playbook. That's it in a nutshell. He was a better athlete than Ja-normous Russell, but not a good quarterback at all. In 5 years, many won't even remember his name..lol.
  22. I would add Baltimore too. Joe Flacco hasn't been anything but average his entire career. Sure he's been on a team to win a Superbowl, but he's been nothing more than a game manager. None the less, I think you hit the nail on the head on Bradford.
  23. My view on this subject is pretty simple. Several of these teams have rookies that haven't taken a snap in the NFL. To say their QB situation is good or bad is quite frankly premature. We can't say one way or the other whether Manziel, Bortles or Bridgewater will be good or bad. As for the other QB's on those respective teams, we can say they're bad. We know exactly what they did when given the opportunity to be "the guy". Squat. Nada. Now let's talk about the veterans. The best of that group has to be Schaub. He's shown the ability to do it with just one weapon on his team. Fitzpatrick and Locker have been nothing but average. Don't try to sell the idea of "potential" when it's been only that for years. It's a bad sell that I'm just not buying. That leaves us with 3 guys that don't have a lot of experience. EJ, Smith and Glennon. Glennon showed us something last year and put up ridiculous numbers. 19 TD's to 9 INT's should speak for itself. EJ was up and down last year, but for the most part an average game manager. Geno Smith was atrocious. The Jets better hope that Vick finds a fountain of youth, because they're not going anywhere with Geno Smith under center. Vick is an inaccurate passer. Has been his whole career. Can he still get it done with his legs? I have my doubts. So my ranking from worst to best would look like this: Houston - I can't believe someone took another shot at Fitzpatrick. To say it's a failure out of the gates is an understatement. Tennessee - At least Jake Locker has an arm, or I would have called him a tie with Houston. NY Jets - Vick could have an OK year, but doubt it. Geno Smith was a train wreck last season. Buffalo - This is truly a make or break year for EJ. Another injury and I think he would be out unless he really progresses. Tampa Bay - Glennon has limited starts or I would have him higher. He could be THAT good. Oakland - Last year was one bad season, but look at his body of work. 130 TD's to 84 INT's isn't bad. Cleveland/Jacksonville/Minnesota - I give these guys incompletes because we're really talking about rookies. If you grade them based on the guys that are behind them, then I put them between Tennessee and the Jets. Hoyer, Henne and Ponder don't exactly scare anyone.
  24. The simple notion that he could be cut (from a fan perspective) is understandable. He followed up a drug possession with a fairly significant traffic violation. His actions aren't consistent at all with his comments after his drug issue last week. However, everything has to be put into context. If this were Colby Way or Damien Jacobs, they would be long gone. It's not though. Dareus, despite all his challenges last season, was the best DT on the team and arguably a top-5 DT in the league. His situation is much more similar to Dez Bryant a few years ago. Tons of off the field trouble early in his career and what did his team do? They got him a 24-7 escort to keep him out of trouble until he showed the maturity that he didn't need a 24-7 escort. At the end of the day, if his off the field activities start impacting his performance on the field, then you consider parting ways with him. Until that time, you work with this young man to try to figure out where his head is and get him back on track. Given that his actions thus far have only harmed himself, I don't think there's any way the team remotely considers cutting him.
  25. If there is a new stadium or major overhaul, the PSL will be amortized over 10 years. So basically people paying for the tickets, parking, food, etc. already to the clip of $2,000-$4,000 per season will simply be adding $500 to their tab. I.e. if you can already afford that much to watch a game, then you can afford the PSL as well.
