Absolutely asinine idea. Let's get real here. First and foremost, if the Bills traded McCoy to anyone, they would immediately eat a $10.5 million cap penalty in 2016. His cap number to remain with the Bills is merely $7.675 million for 2016. That all by itself makes the idea beyond idiotic. Now let's look at Murray. He is guaranteed $7.0 million in salary in 2016. Why on earth would the Bills trade a $7.675 million cap hit in 2016 for a $10.50 million accelerated cap penalty AND then also pay Murray another $7.0 million? They wouldn't because it's a stupid idea. Murray is also a complaining cry baby that bitches about his number of carries. Exactly what we don't need in WNY.

Cordy's Big Deal: How Much Will He Get?
Luxy312 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Good article providing decent insight into potential contract for Glenn. At the end of the day, signing Incognito is a must as well. As far as Gilmore is concerned, he's still under contract for another year. Even after that, they can slap the tag on him. -
Why are you posting links to Tom Brady's wardrobe?

Now is when McCoy's contract bites us in the butt
Luxy312 replied to jester43's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Urbik will cost $2.625 million if kept and save $1.775 million if cut. Why am I ready to part ways with him? I don't think he's that good. Why would I want to see the team pay $2.625 million for a player that's not any good? Miller is better IMO. So we can agree to disagree here, but there's nothing factual in either of our opinions of Urbik's worth. I just don't think a backup guard should be paid $2.6 million. -
I'm not buying that for a second. The Jets easily were moving the ball down the field. In lieu of scores for the Bills, it would have been scores (at least FG's) for them and the outcome of the game could have easily gone the other way. If you think a 19-17 score is a lock for a win, you're nuts and clearly didn't watch the game.

Now is when McCoy's contract bites us in the butt
Luxy312 replied to jester43's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Going through a short list of players here that had virtually no impact this season, Mario Williams, Kyle Williams, Manny Lawson, Kraig Urbik, Jarius Wynn, Boobie Dixon. While they would take a cap penalty hit, the net cap savings would be $24.475 million. That's plenty to sign Incognito and Glenn. Now Gilmore would concern me as he wants a new deal as well, but the last year of his contract is over $11 million. So could they get a cap friendly deal done with him as well and turn around and give Tyrod a new deal? I think the whole McCoy thing is overblown honestly. McCoy isn't going to bite this team in the butt any time soon. -
Football Outsiders Names Roman Coordinator of the Year
Luxy312 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I've posted this elsewhere. The Bills offense was more productive than any that we've had since Bledsoe in 2002. It was more productive than any of Jim Kelly's first 3 seasons in the NFL. Roman deserves this award. However, we need to see smarter play calling next year. Less 30 yard bombs on 3rd and 2. Less screen plays at the line of scrimmage that end up going for zero yards. The defense also clearly needs to get better. Going from near first to near worst in the NFL cannot help the W/L totals. Having even an average defense helps the offense immensely. -
I'm almost 100% certain at this point that Mario Williams will not be on the roster next year. As such, drafting a replacement in the first round makes the most sense to me. While I would love to see them have a shot at a DeForest Buckner or Shaq Lawson, I don't see either of those guys falling to where the Bills are picking. So that would mean drafting the 4th or 5th best DE on the board in Ogbah or Allen. Taking a Reggie Ragland instead would not hurt my feelings. He's been a beast all year for Alabama and the consensus #1 at his position in this years draft. He can rush the passer, but also defend TE's in pass coverage. The latter has been sorely missing from the Bills defenses for years.

BOLD predictions for 2016 Bills Offseason
Luxy312 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't know as though this is "bold", so much as it would be my reality if I were in the front office. Here goes none the less. Mario Williams is gone. $19.9 million against the cap without a renegotiation and coming off of a horrible 5 sack season. So many games where his effort was near zero just doesn't support paying him. They'll save $12.9 million in cap space by letting him go. Manny Lawson is gone as well IMO. They would take only a $750K cap hit to let him go, but would otherwise be paying him $3.4 million. He just wasn't productive enough to warrant keeping him. Tyrod gets a new contract. There's times when he has looked the part of a franchise quarterback and times when he has not. This has been the most prolific offense the Bills have put on the field since Drew Bledsoe in 2002. Let's not forget that Jim Kelly wasn't as productive as Tyrod in his first 3 full seasons with the Bills. I'm certainly not saying Tyrod will be, but it stands to reason that he'll be better next year. Gilmore either gets a new contract or plays for a new contract next year. He's getting $11.082 if he plays under the current deal. Kyle Williams either retires or plays his last season with the Bills next year. Given his injury, he may just be done. I was happy with the play of Bryant in his place none the less. -
New England had the fewest fumbles again in 2015
Luxy312 replied to papazoid's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This about sums it up. It's far too easy to take a myopic "sample", if you even want to call it that, and say that that's representative of the whole. New England has 9 fumbles on the season. That has them tied for 15th most in the NFL. Miami has a grand total of 3, where Carolina leads with 15. There is NOTHING special about that metric this year. -
My observations of the game and the season: The Bills were #1 at getting after quarterbacks last season and #32 this year. With no major changes in personnel, this comes down to play calling. Rex Ryan's stubborn attitude that his schemes and formations work for any player is astonishing to say the least. In every single game this year, they've dropped Mario and or Marcel into pass coverage. It is beyond ridiculous. Based on his early season play, we knew we had something special in Karlos Williams. Gillislee has now also clearly emerged as a threat. With a healthy McCoy next season, this three headed rushing attack is going to be scary good. It took half the season, but it seems that Tyrod is finally comfortable with Sammy Watkins and Sammy has proven that he can go get the ball in traffic. Speaking of receivers, I'm dumbounded on how little Clay was really utilized during the year. Given how many passes that have been thrown his way, they could have just stuck with Chandler. There really hasn't been a measurable difference in performance. Restricting the Cowboys to merely 307 yards of total offense was actually pretty good. The theme for the year though is that they can stop the teams that are terrible, but not the teams that are good. RT appears like it will need to be a priority in the draft or free agency. Mills, Henderson, Kuandjio just not good enough. Mario Williams is gone. He's said he has no interest in restructuring his deal and will otherwise count $19.9 million against the cap. Cutting him would save $12.9 million of that figure. Kyle Williams turns 33 next year. I can't imagine he has a lot left in the tank. I could see him retiring or perhaps making next year his last. None the less I also like what I've seen from Corbin Bryant. Darby has been a gem in the secondary. That said, the Bills have given up too many big plays over the course of the year. Countless third and long situations where the other team is picking up a first down and keeping the drive alive. Tyrod still looks lost on intermediate passing routes. It should take the least amount of time to go through his reads and yet it doesn't. Part of the offensive line looking bad can be blamed on slow decision making. There is not an offensive line in the NFL that can protect their QB forever.

Bills or Jets...Who would you rather Be
Luxy312 replied to plenzmd1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It was a post on NFL network and clearly wrong. So you're OK with his 14 fumbles then? Regardless of how you color this season, he's a mediocre journeyman at best. Tyrod's first year is better than any year Fitz has had. -
Bills or Jets...Who would you rather Be
Luxy312 replied to plenzmd1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bills no doubt. The Jets are winning because of their defense, while the Bills are winning with offense. Let's put it in perspective. Before todays game, Fitzpatrick had 15 TD's and 17 INT's and another 4 lost on fumbles. Most teams don't win with those kind of numbers. Tyrod had 20 TD's, only 5 INT's and 5 lost fumbles. I think the Bills are more talented on both sides of the ball and that it simply comes down to coaching. Would I rather the Bills have the record that the Jets have going into week 17? Of course. That would be an idiotic question to ask. -
This entire team shows up against the chumps and disappears when they play a real team. I guess we'll see what the Jets are next week in Buffalo. The games against Jacksonville and Phily are coming full circle to bite them in the ass.

My thoughts on the season are really pretty simple. Look at the offense last season with Kyle Orton at the helm. Simply an average offense with no big play ability what so ever. Orton was about 50-50 for TDs to turnovers and the team managed to be 9-7 based on great defensive play. Dial it forward to this year. Tyrod has 23 total TD's (20/3) and only 6 turnovers (5/1). Outstanding on offense. I'm optimistic about the offense with Tyrod at the helm and McCoy in the backfield. They've looked pretty good at times. The defense has been terrible. No pass rush. Last in the NFL. Play calling has Mario and Marcel dropping into pass coverage. Last minute players changing positions before the snap has left guys out of position to make plays, all under the idea of creating confusion. It has not. Mario is probably gone after this year. That's fine. Bills probably draft a DE or OLB to replace him. If after next year we're sitting here at 8-8 or 9-7, I'll be calling for Rex's head.

No do over. Without McCoy, we wouldn't even have the wins we have. He's the right guy. Now we need to get this **** defense situation fixed.

You know it's funny that I agree with both perspectives here. My initial gut reaction is that you don't simply draft a QB to take a shot that you might have a future HOF'er. Then when I go back and look at the Bills draft history, I can see that in the last 20 years, the Bills have drafted exactly 2 quarterbacks in the first or second round. E.J. Manuel and J.P. Losman. To boot, neither of these guys were really high draft picks where there were a ton of expectations out of the box. So for 2016, what do I really want? Well, I don't want to see a forced pick of a QB in round 1, just for the sake of trying. But....if the front office thinks there's a guy that has that potential to be that guy, then I'm good with it. I like what Tyrod has done. He's been the best QB the Bills have had since Jim Kelly. But his biggest flaw is that he doesn't make decisions quickly or makes them too quick. He's got two moves. Lock onto the first read and throw a 1-3 yard pass or wait 3-4 seconds for the deep ball. That won't cut it long term. Some of it is play calling too. How many slant routes have we seen Sammy run mid-field? I don't recall any. Anyway, on the fate of Rex and Whaley, I don't know how I feel. Whaley isn't calling plays. Should he be the fall guy for failed defensive schemes and play calling? I don't see how quite frankly. None the less, there's always going to be someone to blame. Rex won't be a 1-year and done coach here in Buffalo. I think there's almost no chance of that. The Pegula's would look like complete idiots if that were the case. It looks bad now, but I don't believe for a second that starting over completely is the answer.
-
Personally, I could give a rats ass about this game. The defense has stunk for much of the season and I attribute most of that to piss poor play calling. How many times do we have to see Dareus or Williams drop back into pass coverage? More important than even that, how many times have they made defensive plays in pass defense? It's mind boggling/mind numbing nonsense. I'm happy to reclaim these 4 hours on Sunday and not have to worry about watching this team for at least 9 months.

Should the Bills "tank" in 2017 or 2018 to get a QB?
Luxy312 replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Franchise QB Fairy, it's already been spelled out to you. You don't jettison a front office and half your roster to get a QB. It's just plain stupid. That is what would happen with your wonderful idea. There is no realistic scenario of losing on purpose. -
"A Revolving Door in the Factory of Sadness" (MMQB)
Luxy312 replied to LA Grant's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Good read and good article. It is a bit reminiscent of our team. -
Intelligent thought out thread, unlike the Franchise QB Fairy's. Honestly, I think that as long as Roman is the OC that Tyrod would be here. I know that Tyrod is Rex's guy, but at this point Roman knows what he has in a potential franchise signal caller. Tyrod has things to work on of course, but tell me that his starts look as up and down as EJ's when he was in this position. They don't.

The Colts didn't tank! NFL teams don't tank. I don't know why THAT isn't obvious to the Franchise QB Fairy (your new nickname because I really liked it). -

Luxy312 replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You sound more and more stupid with this argument as you type them. They went 2-14 with Jim Caldwell as the HC. With Luck, that became Chuck Pagano. Curtis Painter was the QB for 8 of those losses, NOT Peyton Manning. Painter was 0-8 as a starter. The two games they won were with Dan Orlovsky at QB and at the END OF THE SEASON to boot. He went 2-3 for his starts. Round off the remaining 3 starts by Kerry Collins who also lost 3 games. No Peyton Manning, get it? You can't extrapolate from the years Manning was there into a year where he didn't touch a football. In terms of Russell, he has just as much to do with this discussion as Luck. Neither one of them will be in the 2017 or 2018 draft. You get what an analogy is, right? Guess not. It's much more likely than not that they don't have an opportunity to draft the next sure fire, can't miss QB prospect like Luck was. It's much more likely based on actual history outside of a video game that they get an average Joe like the guys I mentioned before. Jake Locker, Sam Bradford, and the like. The absolute stupidity that an entire front office is going to conspire to lose football games, and platoon their team is unbelievable. It's not like team owners are trying to continue to improve their $800m brand or anything. That's pretty awesome. LOL. Well done!
