I would love that news! Hopefully this happens. We have a nobody coach who is taking three whole days to decide if he wants to stay with the Bills, really? Hit the road Doug.
-
Ok, well here is the reality of the first four games... Foles - 6 TDs, 57.8 completion %, 4 interceptions, 82 QB rating (first 4 games) Manuel - 6 TDs (5 pass / 1 rush), 58 completion %, 3 interceptions, 80.3 QB rating (first 4 games) So extrapolating Foles' numbers would have been a great indicator of his season after eight games. Are you arguing that Manuel is much more horrible regardless of the numbers? You do know that Manuel has the giant handicap of being coached by Hackett.
-
Marrone was given a serviceable QB in Kyle Orton and his play tanked under his suffocating conservative offense.
-
I think you're wrong there, EJ always seemed much better in the hurry up because it didn't allow him to overthink. IMO Kelly would know what to do with Manuel's skills and both Foles and Sanchez would be on the bench if Manuel was there at the start of the season. Was it surprising to you how close those numbers were? Especially considering how by a large margin fans would rather have either of them instead of Manuel?
-
I decided to do a comparison exercise with Foles, Sanchez and Manuel using the numbers they produced in 2014. Since Manuel started only 4 games, I simply doubled the numbers to see where they would land in comparison to Foles and Sanchez's numbers: Foles - 13 TDs, 311 attempts, 59.9 completion %, 10 interceptions, 270 yards per game, 11.6 yards per completion, 81.4 QB rating, 9 sacks (8 games) Sanchez- 15 TDs (14 passing/1 rushing), 309 attempts, 64.1 completion %, 11 interceptions, 268.7 yards per game, 12.2 yards per completion, 88.4 QB rating, 23 sacks (9 games) Manuel - 12 TDs (10 passing/2 rushing), 262 attempts, 58 completion %, 6 interceptions, 209.5 yards per game, 11 yards per completion, 80.3 QB rating, 12 sacks (doubling stats of 4 games started) Now, 2 of these guys have offensive genius Chip Kelly coaching and calling plays for them and 1 of these guys has Nate Hackett. Think Manuel would be just as good as Foles or Sanchez if he were an Eagle? I definitely do.

Him waiting this long to make a final decision is ridiculous. Could you imagine if this were the situation with the Cowboys? The NFL media's head would explode. Garrett would be fired already. It's a smack in the face to be waiting this long. I hope Marrone says he's coming back and the Pegula's tell him to hit the road. He wants a head coach who wants to be here and isn't wringing his hands over the decision.

Hire Trestman as OC now
1billsfan replied to Whack 'Em Williams's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
2013 - Josh McCown / 5 starts with the Bears - 109 QB rating / 86 QBR. If he can do that with McCown, I'd like to see what he could do with Manuel. -
I'd bring in both Mark Sanchez and Kellen Moore and with Manuel already here, let those three battle it out after getting an upgraded O line and a new OC who has had previous success in the NFL. Moore is the best thrower on that list and could be a diamond in the rough.
-
It is his first year owning the team. You'd think at some point there would be a public statement of confidence in the current organization if things were staying the same.
-
Is it weird that Pegula hasn't spoken yet? I think it's very telling that Marrone hasn't given his answer yet regarding his opting out and the owner hasn't yet spoken up since the season ended. When both parties are this unsure going forward then something is up I would think. I wouldn't mind Schwartz becoming our head coach at this point, I definitely don't want Marrone back.

Not surprising to me that Marrone would be angry with Whaley
1billsfan replied to Rubes's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Has a rookie head coach knowing his new team was picking a QB very high in the draft ever picked an offensive coordinator with no NFL experience at that position? That was a real dumb decision by Marrone. The Bills were also stupid in hiring him in the first place if that was his plan knowing that the team was targeting Manuel. -

Sure thing, and Marrone hiring a guy who had no experience as an NFL offensive coordinator had nothing to do with Manuel and Orton's failures. -

1billsfan replied to Rubes's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Really?! Whaley isn’t the one that hired his buddy Nate Hackett as OC, a guy who had no experience being an NFL coordinator. There's no doubt that during the HC hiring process the Bills were discussing taking a project QB prospect in EJ Manuel who everyone knew would need a LOT of expert coaching to get ready. As a comparison, here is what other NFL teams gave their rookie QBs as an expert QB instructor to get them ready to become a starter in the NFL… Luck - Bruce Arians RGIII - Mike Shanahan Tannehill - Mike Sherman Bridgewater - Norv Turner Manuel - Hackett Marrone’s hiring of Hackett was professional malpractice since it was his job to find the best person to coach up an incoming rookie QB (he no doubt knew they were drafting one). No one talks about this. As if Hackett was an acceptable choice to develop EJ Manuel. The lack of anger over Marrone’s decision to hire Hackett as his OC still amazes me. How is Hackett still employed right now? -
Russ Brandon and Marrone's Opt-Out Clause
1billsfan replied to Bills1218's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sorry, my post wasn't meant to infer that I want him gone because of his press conference demeanor. My bad, it was poorly worded. I have wanted Marrone gone for a while now. Probably since Orton's play fell off a cliff due to the opposing defenses knowing what "safe" plays they were going to run. I think that Marrone is a worse head coach than Dick Jauron. At least Jauron had the excuse for having a bad offense that he was a defense coach. This year, Marrone's offense scored the same amount of TDs that Jauron's did in his final full season has a Bills head coach. I have no patience for a head coach who is this bad having an arrogant attitude. This team may get to the playoffs with him, but IMO they will forever be a one and done playoff team. You need to score points in the playoffs and his conservative offense is strictly point total averse. -
Russ Brandon and Marrone's Opt-Out Clause
1billsfan replied to Bills1218's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I want Marrone gone. He was very snarky in that press conference where I feel the reporters were being very soft with the questions. He acted as if he couldn't believe he was being questioned on his coaching. As if everything was going smoothly when we all saw the most pathetic offense ever by a Bills team. I hope he leaves. I'm totally fine with Jim Schwartz taking the reigns over. Give Pepper Johnson the DC job and hire Trestman to bring in a much needed real NFL offense to the Bills. -
EJ Manuel. Our next star quarterback
1billsfan replied to TC in St. Louis's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Bills have a huge identity crisis on offense. They seem to run a power run/west coast offense with an offensive line that can't power run block due to poor guard play and an overabundance of conservative throws to the RBs in the flat when they have a very good trio of Watkins, Woods and Hogan. The Bills need to throw big money at the best free agent guard and they need to draft another one early in this coming draft. That should take care of upgrading the power run game. Then they need to scrap the throws to the RBs out of the back field and they need to throw the ball vertically down the field and let their WRs win those battles. This is what the Steelers do and the Bills should adopt this offensive scheme. EJ Manuel could become a poor mans Ben Rothlesberger, but they need to at least give him the chance with this new scheme. The first thing they need to do is upgrade the line and scrap the throws to the RBs. The only way that Manuel becomes a franchise QB is if he is given a franchise QB offense to run and give him the opportunity to either succeed or fail. We will never know if he is a franchise QB with this current failure of an offensive scheme. Orton sucked in it too so it wasn't just EJ. Marrone seems obsessed with third downs. Like his main objective is to get a enough yards on first and second down that would make it easier to convert a short pass for another first down. The Steelers don't care about third downs. They attack you with power runs and passes down the field to their WRs. TDs don't come from an abundance of 3rd down conversions. They come from making big plays down the field. -
There are NO good Qbs available
1billsfan replied to Buffalo Boy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Just 2 in the last 10 or so years, Wilson and Romo. There are very few diamonds in the rough success stories. It's very rare for that to happen. Everyday fans have the same access to draft prospects so it's not like anyone slips throughout the cracks in NFL scouting departments. EJ Manuel is a lot better than any QB at pick #50 in this draft. He had a 6-8 QB record. Fans have been going overboard on how bad he was. -
How about Marc Trestman as OC?
1billsfan replied to Mister Defense's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Maybe it's because he is the best of a very poor free agent QB class?...LOL You got a name? Please share. -
How about Marc Trestman as OC?
1billsfan replied to Mister Defense's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
In just 2013, Trestman made a 34 year old Josh "who?" McCown into a threat at the QB position. McCown had a 109 QB rating and 86 QBR in his five starts. If he can do THAT with Josh McCown, what could he do with a Mark Sanchez or EJ Manuel for that matter? Trestman is exactly the guy we need. We need a QB/OC guru to coach up our QBs. The Bears offense was a monster in 2013. Trestman isn't head coach material, however the Bills would be lucky to get Trestman as their OC. -
One free agent QB that I think could one day shock the NFL and turn out to be a poor man's "Drew Brees" type franchise QB is Kellen Moore. The chances may be small, but in his limited exposure in preseason games he has performed very well. Yes they was preseason games, but the guy can throw very accurately and he anticipates extremely well. He doesn't have a gun, but you really don't need that if you have those other two things. IMO he's worth taking a shot on.

I may be bitter, but man am I happy!
1billsfan replied to gobillsinytown's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
...and the Bills starters lost 3-0 against the Pats backups. Sorry fellas, but enjoying this win is like a Pats fan circa early 90s enjoying beating the Bills backups in week 16. Get a grip. This win is about as hollow as it gets. -

They didn't care guys. How you can get happy over it is an sad indictment on how some Bills fans can view such a meaningless Bills win against the Garapolo led Patriots as something genuine. -
That Belichick is a freaking genius
1billsfan replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You only blow up the Marrone/Hackett anchor that's dragging this franchise down. You leave the defense and Schwartz alone. I'd go after Darrell Bevell from Seattle to be our Sean Payton HC/OC combo. Marrone and Hackett have to go. That 9-7 record looks silly when you realize the Pats couldn't care less after losing to a bad Raider team week 16 when it counted. -
Report: No Football ops changes expected with Bills
1billsfan replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If that happens then say goodbye to the Bills becoming a competitive franchise for the next decade. Seriously. I don't want Bill Polian back, I don't want his kid who was a huge failure in Indy, I just want Doug Marrone and Nate Hackett fired. -
When your offensive play calls consist of 95% runs up the middle and three yard passes, I would imagine that the defense can just tee off on an O line. I'm not saying this guy is a good coach (he does probably stink), just that defenses have a huge upper hand when playing the Bills because they know what plays are coming. There is no element of surprise. The Bills need to blow up the entire offensive coaching staff including Marrone. I'd pick the Seattle OC to come here and become our Sean Payton who is pretty much both HC/OC.
