  1. The coaches I mentioned all have a valid record of success in the NFL. Unlike Doug Marrone, who was the OC in New Orleans in name only. Under Marrone, I have never witnessed a more pathetic offense in my 40 years as a Bills fan. The current defense being so great means that this franchise can't wait a few years for Doug to get that he is in the NFL now. This offense needs to be blown up to bits. I think you are in denial about this and see Doug as a smart guy who just needs elite players to make his system work. He's a huge failure. He never had the balls to challenge defenses vertically. If you never do this you will never have a running game worth anything. The constant runs up the middle and three yard passes get more and more suffocating. Be in denial all you want, Marrone is a bad head coach. Please list all of the current NFL head coaches that Marrone is better than, I'll wait.
  2. I would imagine that the Orton led Bills starters getting beat by the Garapolo led Pats backups certainly would not be seen as meaningless.
  3. If he advocates keeping Marrone then he should not be hired. The Bills need to blow up the current offensive scheme and timid approach and Marrone is probably way too stubborn to accept such a drastic change to his offense. Keeping Marrone will set this franchise back another two years. Best to have real shake up by firing him and hiring either Darrell Bevell or Frank Reich as our new head coach. I hope he would only serve as a draft consultant only.
  4. Jauron and Gailey were both given second chances to prove they were authentic head coaches and failed. You need to inspire players to play for you at their top level and neither one could do that. You can shoot back that they didn't have Brady or Wilson, and I'll say that any NFL team that had a franchise QB like those two with Jauron or Gailey as their HC would have fired them eventually because they wouldn't have performed up to the level of the QB. Marrone is a lot like Jauron in that he coaches as if he's scared to lose. I remember the last Pats game yelling at the TV why aren't they challenging Revis with Watkins. That was pathetic.
  5. Sanchez is really an afterthought. The Bills will need to sign a free agent QB and unfortunately he's one of the top two or three out there. My hope is that Manuel would beat out Sanchez and that he'd only be a backup plan like Orton was. I don't want Orton because he's not fully committed to playing football as everyone could tell by the slide a yard short of the marker play. One thing that Sanchez has going for him is that he has proven he can be successful with a great defense like ours and a great running game which we hope to get one in the offseason. Also, he knows the division. I'd much rather have him than Orton.
  6. Who knows how good Manuel will ever be, but it boggles the mind at how horrible of a decision that was by Marrone. I don't see how this franchise can move forward with the guy who made that call.
  7. It would be a bold move, but I would be totally on board if they hired him. Having said that, I think the perfect candidate is the OC from Seattle. Would love to see him turn EJ Manuel into the giant version of Russell Wilson...LOL We already have the "beast mode" back in Dixon.
  8. It's funny how many Bills fans are scoffing at Rex Ryan. Unlike the last 10 or so head coaches we've had since Marv Levy, Rex Ryan has a great NFL head coaching resume.
  9. Relax, I want Darrell Bevell as both our new HC/OC. You are getting upset discussing Rex/Trestman which is my FOURTH option and that option is still a thousand times better than Marrone/Hackett. Trestman took a team to the Superbowl as an OC. He has always done a good job being in that position and he knows how to handle QBs who actually care about their job and want to learn. So then, what’s your solution smarty pants? I gave you a fourth option, can you give us a first option? No I'm not joking. Rex Ryan and Mark Trestman would give this team the jolt that it needs to challenge the best teams in the AFC. The Jets have lost a lot of talent, it wasn't Rex's coaching that did them in. Who do you want as the next head coach and OC?
  10. Like I said, I have other HC candidates in mind, but if they did go with Ryan/Trestman my hope would be that Trestman could get Manuel to be a better QB than Sanchez and so he would win the job. Sanchez would be plan B like Orton was. There are not any great options out there for the Bills at QB. Looking at the draft option, I would think that the 2nd rd pick will be a OG or TE and maybe they take a chance on a QB in the 3rd rd and hope for a Russell Wilson success story? Slim chances of that happening. Sign the best FA guard, get a better TE and then have a professional OC come in and hopefully show that the problem with the Bills offense was Marrone and Hackett, not the talent.\\
  11. Although I like Darrell Bevell, Frank Reich or Todd Bowles as our possible new head coach, I wouldn't mind seeing Rex Ryan as our HC with Mark Trestman as OC. Bring in Mark Sanchez and then let him battle it out with EJ Manuel.
  12. Think about THIS decision by Marrone. When he gets hired by the Bills for their head coaching position he went about getting Mike Pettine as his defensive coordinator. A successful, well established and experienced coach in the NFL. Awesome move! Ok, so the Bills "obviously" had plans to draft a rookie QB and I'm sure this was told to Marrone during the discussions about the job. Why in the world would he hire a rookie offensive coordinator in Nate Hackett if he knew this going into the job???? Wouldn't you think you would need to hire a guy that has proven success in the league? Just like he did with the defense? If you are drafting a QB who will be on the fast track to start, what in the world were Doug and the Bills thinking with regards to hiring a rookie OC who had proved nothing? As for Marrone, by all accounts his position as New Orleans OC was in name only, he was the O line coach there and did not call plays. Shouldn't this be called franchise malpractice? How fair was it to EJ Manuel to have to be coached by a rookie? Manuel was a project to begin with and Nate Hackett was the guru to guide him through the bumps and bruises? Really? I have no idea what Manuel will become, but the more I think about the Hackett hire with Marrone and the Bills KNOWING they were selecting a guy they want to become their franchise QB, it boggles the mind how stupid that was. They get Pettine for the defense and then they throw an anchor on EJ Manuel with Nate Hackett and tell him to swim. While EJ and Nate may both be duds, Marrone and the Bills did Manuel a MAJOR disservice in that hire.
  13. Something like Manuel running for 90 yards and throwing for 3 touchdowns? If they would blow up the conservative offense and just let them play backyard football I think that you could see Manuel having that type of game and Marrone would have some serious egg on his face for sticking with Orton and the conservative approach. Far too many people seem afraid of watching Manuel succeed or fail with a real down the field attacking approach. On offense, I would try to cut the head of the snake off against their defense which is Revis. Why is having Manuel attack Revis throwing to Watkins down the field so scary? Let's lose or win big. Let's show some balls. All we get is this blah blah blah bs from our timid as all head coach who is only pretending he's a tough guy. Wanna be a tough guy? Fearless? Challenge Revis with Manuel and Watkins.
  14. He sounded arrogant and defensive with the way he answered the question about who he's starting. As if Orton was an obvious choice even though he has played horrible. It's clear that Marrone did not want to give Manuel the chance to prove his decision of sticking with Orton (a few weeks ago) was a stupid one that may have cost them the playoffs. If I were Marrone I'd have told the media that there is no longer any significant difference in which QB they play in regards to who gives them the best chance to win. So the decision was to go with the younger QB and I'd have sent Manuel out there and have him thrown the ball to Watkins a LOT during the game. I'd tell the team that we're here to beat New England by scoring touchdowns and that we'll sink or swim with an attack that is trying to get the ball downfield and scoring touchdowns. I want to see Manuel/Watkins vs Revis Island. If they burn Revis then the Pats suddenly look toothless and shaky going into the playoffs. If Revis burns them then they can blame it on youth and at least they went down swinging.
  15. I think the Pats play Brady for the first few series and then Garapolo takes over. I think with Marrone making the huge, puffed out chest deal about "playing to win" this game, it will make it even more embarrassing for the franchise if they lose to Brady/Garapolo with Orton playing the whole game. Pats make it a glorified preseason game vs the Bills who are taking it seriously...and the Pats still win. Oh baby, will this board will explode.
  16. 2. see Dick Jauron. 3. you definitely can't make (help out?) a QB by runs up the middle and 3 yard passes 90% of the time...see Orton and Manuel. 4. I have eyes, Hackett sucks...see #3
  17. I'm not looking for a fight either. I just can't imagine in what world Doug Marrone keeps his job after witnessing the most predictable and suffocating offense ever. I think Marrone is a poser head coach and doesn't have the guts for conducting a real NFL offense. You can not win if you are afraid to score touchdowns because there might be a turnover. This was and will always be his downfall. Runs up the middle and 3 yards passing plays is not an NFL offense, not by a million miles. If you made a list of current NFL head coaches that Doug Marrone is better than you would have a list of three or four. That right there is a reason to move on. Why keep going with one of the worst when you can make a change and look for one of the best?
  18. When Marrone was first hired? Hackett's dad? We aren't back in 2013 (there are historically awful offensive stats now) and Hackett's dad isn't coordinating our offense. Please list the current NFL head coaches that Doug Marrone is better than.
  19. The only reason he got to that record was with the NFL's best defense which he had nothing to do with. You say he's well respected, well how do you know that? Who are these "a lot of backers"? Other teams blow smoke because they want you to keep your bad head coach. Bill Polian? He isn't "a lot of backers". Polian got many things wrong in his career. He was lucky to have both Kelly and Manning. You could argue that his having only one Superbowl win with both Kelly and Manning was a very bad mark on his record. List the current head coaches that Doug Marrone is better than. Then list the NFL teams who would want Whaley's Bills defense. We will find out very shortly how the Pegula's feel about the matter. My sense is that the feeling will be that Marrone is by far the biggest thing holding this team back. I think he's gone on Monday, a day after the Pats beat the Bills even using their backups for the entire second half.
  20. I don't buy this line of thought at all. Jauron and Gailey were simply not authentic head coaches. They were coordinators who got the job because they were the "last stop" choices. Take the Vikings as an example. They had Leslie Frazier and before that Brad Childress. Two coordinators who were not authentic head coaching material. They now have Mike Zimmer who looks very much like an authentic head coach who will be there 10 years. The Bills have a head coach who was never even a successful NFL coordinator. He's clearly not the answer. They need to find that authentic 10 year head coach and there's no sense in waiting a year on a head coach who literally has had no success on offense which is the very problem of the Buffalo Bills.
  21. He may not ever be able to win the "shootout" games, but to me he does seem like a guy who could be coached up to consistently put up 17-24 points a game which is good enough for 10-12 wins with a top 3 defense.
  22. That's a ridiculous question. Whaley gave us a top 3 defense in the NFL. What has Marrone given us again?
  23. You may be right, but we don't know yet. The truth is that if there is a switch, that switch won't ever go on with Marrone and Hackett here. I truly believe that Manuel has the ability to get to a "Joe Flacco" level of franchise QB. What he lacks in accuracy can be mitigated by our receivers who have a large pass catching radius, adding a real TE threat, and actually throwing the ball deep (whether it's caught or not, loosens things up for the RBs in the running game). While Manuel isn't as accurate as Flacco, he has the running ability to extend plays and a new coach will have to coach Manuel to use his legs as the ultimate plan B of passing plays that go wrong. What Marrone didn't do was challenge defenses vertically. Even if it isn't complete, it gives breathing room to a suffocating running and 3 yard passing game. NFL defenses know before the snap that every Bills play will be within the 10 yard sticks whether it's a run or pass.
  24. EJ Manuel was brought along by the worst coaches imaginable. There's no disputing this fact. It doesn't mean that he's is the answer at QB. Just that he could be the starting QB if the Bills bring in real NFL offensive coaching and Manuel starts to flourish under the new coaches. I think the Bills will hire someone like Derrell Bevell or Frank Reich as their new head coach. It's possible they would hire Cards DC Todd Bowles as their new head coach if he has a great offensive coordinator in mind that would agree to come. I'm sure Bruce Arians knows OC talent and would suggest a very good one to him. Once they get the new coaches in here, they will probably look to add another QB to challenge Manuel for the starting spot. Someone like a Mark Sanchez. There is no magic bullet with the QB position. It's going to be Manuel, a not so good FA, or a 3rd-5th round QB from the coming draft. Basically you've got to put your hope in the new coach flipping the "switch" on Manuel. I believe that a great coach can do that and if he can't, there will be an acceptable plan B to at least finally get us in the playoffs.
  25. This line of thought worked so well with the Dick Jauron era. It was clear after 2 seasons that Jauron was a loser as a head coach, yet the Bills kept him on 2 more years because of the "continuity" argument. It's the same thing with Doug. The Bills need a quick fix to the offense and Doug is clearly not the man to do this. No need to see an extra two seasons of failure. It's time to move on to the next head coach. This team is on the cusp of big things if they can get their act together on that side of the ball. There's no waiting around a year or two just when a great defense starts losing players.
