Couldn't disagree more. Please take a look at these incredibly easy schedules from the 2006 season that allowed two bad teams to actually make the playoffs... http://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/kan/2006.htm http://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/nyj/2006.htm Strength of schedule plays a major part in who makes the playoffs of the teams that don't currently have Brady or Manning on their rosters.

Can a defense defend 3 Electric Wide Receivers?
1billsfan replied to Billsfanfourlife's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Splitting hairs here... Lee proved he can get it done big time at 5'9 195 lbs. Parrish was never given a chance but when he was thrown the ball performed very well. Height wasn't a problem, lack of opportunity (see Jauron, Fairchild) was the problem. Jackson looks like he's basically the same size as Hakim. He will probably end up being a better pro WR than Thomas or Sweed. To me, it looks like it has a very good shot at working. They just may need to draft a taller WR (Monk? Hubbard? Urriata?) later on as a specialist for the red zone though. -

No sh_t. I was making the point that a team with three very fast smallish receivers CAN win the Superbowl and should have won two of them. -

Those Kurt Warner Rams sure looked like crap, didn't they. -

That's actually not a bad idea at all. With Evans, Jackson and Parrish in the slot the Bills would be so dangerous if they were all given the chance to actually see a pass thrown their way consistently. If you start thinking who will end up being the better WR between Thomas and Jackson I think I'd have to say that Jackson would be much better. I know it's a gamble going with all smurf WRs, but one that could pay off with loooooong TDs from anywhere on the field. It wouldn't take me long to warm up to the idea of drafting Desean Jackson as our #2. -
the "2:00 Minute Drill" on NFL radio, where they have continuously updated (three per hour) NFL fans on the status of the potential Pac-Man Jones trade for the last THREE WEEKS. I just might take a sledge hammer to this thing if I have to listen one more update on this low-life currently suspended waste of a human being. This guy is lucky he's not in prison and the NFL radio feels like he needs free pub every freaking 20 minutes. NFL radio is cool, but this has got me over the freaking edge.

Jordy Nelson WR Kansas State
1billsfan replied to lets_go_bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The more I think about it, the more I don't want the Bills to draft a WR in round 2 unless it's Kelly who fell though the cracks. I just think that you can get a guy just as good if not better in the 4th round. Guys like Hubbard or Jackson as mentioned above. The Bills need to either take DRC, Harvey or Albert with #11 (value over need) or they need to try to trade back add a 3rd round pick and target the need picks in Thomas or Sweed later in the 1st. If they go with DRC, Harvey or Albert I don't want the Bills to be chasing that WR position when they will find a player with very similar skills and ability with that fourth round pick. The Bills would be much better served adding Dan Conner, Lawrence Jackson or Fred Davis rather than a Jordy Nelson. If we don't get Thomas, Sweed or Kelly forget about receiver till the fourth. Then take a couple of flyers with the extra picks in the later rounds. That's how I'd presently go about things. -
You're on the money with this post, bravo!

Drafting players to replace our starters is wearing thin.
1billsfan replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Oh please, Edwards does NOT equate to us being solidified at QB. Not by a long shot. The guy has to prove he can actually get the ball into the endzone on a consistent basis before you can go saying that he has solidified the QB position for the Bills. Sorry, but that one made me laugh. -

1billsfan replied to Captain Hindsight's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sorry, but I think NFL defenses caught up with Trent. That showed up those last three games. Defenses love the checkdown QB and will let Trent do that all game long because they know he won't put up the six points when he gets to the red zone. They also love the fact that he tips off running plays with the fake audibles. That wasn't very smart. I'd rather have the QB that can score from anywhere on the field which is Losman. -
The Losman/Edwards debate is far from over. Sorry, but you must be a new arrival here. Just because there are a few overly obnoxious Edwards supporters who are more than happy to saturate TSW with their feeble football intelligence doesn't mean the Losman supporters are gone and the debate's over. Far from it in fact. Edwards looked like crap warmed over his last three games of 2007. He may be the current starter, but Edwards will have to play a whole lot better than that to keep his job or else Losman will and should get another chance. I only hope that Edwards is Buffalo's football messiah some have come to see him as, I'd love it in fact. But to me, Edwards has yet to prove he's better than Losman. He just doesn't get the ball in the endzone like Losman can. Which is first and foremost the QB's biggest responsibility.

I agree. I'm not locked in to any one position at this point. Our biggest need right now is at WR, but all the options come with big question marks. There are much surer players that will be there at the other positions you mentioned like offensive line, defensive back, defensive line and linebacker. The smart thing for the Bills is to pick the guy they feel will have the biggest impact regardless of position. Harvey, Albert, Sweed, Thomas, DRC, Rivers, Clady, Jenkins...the Bills could find a spot for any of these talented players. I have no idea who the Bills will pick, but I have a feeling it's one from that bunch. I'm at the point where I'd be happy with whoever it is. I usually have a strong preference at who I want that first pick to be, but with two weeks to go I strangely don't.

1. Derrick Harvey DE 2. Malcolm Kelly WR 3. John Carlson TE 4. Jeremy Zuttah OL 4. Steve Justice C We'd get the DE monster, the WR steal, the go to TE target, and bolster the much needed depth in the middle of our offensive line with two very good prospects. Given the circumstances of yesterday's bad workout by Kelly there's the distinct possibility out there that he could fall to us in the second round. This is a guy that obviously was hurt by a lingering injury issue, but so did another guy that we stole in the second named Thurman Thomas. Kelly has proven he's a darn good football player who is definitely worth the (what I think is low) risk. Given all this, I think the Bills would have had a phenomenal draft if they could grab the above players in rounds 1-4. Why no CB? I just have never bought into this theory that we still need to find Nate Clements' replacement. I know it's not a popular opinion, but I think we're solid with Greer and McGee as our starters. I also think that the Bills should be able to sign a veteran for depth and/or nickel purposes after June 1st cuts or in player cuts when other teams pick youth over experience during train camps. It happens every year and fans here forget that Youboty can also be that missing piece who's ready to hit his stride.

A New WR, but how about a new Offense
1billsfan replied to otisly00's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Lynch is one of those superior personnel types that Jauron never fully used. The evidence is Marshawn's 18 receptions for a back that has great ball catching skills. Seems that Levy and Jimbo knew how to take advantage of such superior talent. Let's see if Jauron has learned this lesson and actually uses his offensive players to their fullest extent. -

1billsfan replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Come on. You didn't just sight NFL reporters as proof Dick Jauron is a good coach. If there was ever a sport where writers and talking heads are much more wrong than they're right it's the NFL. These are the same jokers that said Favre was finished last offseason and should retire. The same ones that thought the Giants had no shot in the Superbowl. Sorry, but the NFL media's opinions generally mean less than nothing to me. It just goes to show you that Jauron's master plan of being a nice and classy guy which in turn will get him at least five years no matter how bad of a coach you are. That team in Chicago can certainly attest to this. Look, Dick is a fine gentleman but he plain sucks as a head coach. His overall coaching record says so, his coaching record against good teams says so, his one winning season in seven total seasons says so. That Patriots story was written before the nation embarrassment of the Bills second meeting with the Pats and the subsequent free fall at the end of the season when wins were desperately needed and his team looked clueless and uninspired. I'm quite sure that the Pat fans and Bill Belichick love Dick Jauron and hope he stays as the head coach of the Buffalo Bills for a very long time. The CBS sportsline story is bu__sh__. The Bills did not battle until the final week. Yes, Jauron did a good job of beating on the teams that sucked on their schedule in the middle of their season. Hooray! But they played like wimps at home against the Pats, Dallas begged Jauron to beat them by giving his team six turnovers still couldn't do it, and they played like crap the final three games of the season. Bad coaching, doesn't cut it in my book. The Schein story was written the week before the Bills fell like water over Niagra Falls starting with the Cleveland game. I doubt he even watched a Bills game last season. I highly doubt that Len still thought that Jauron was coach of the year material after those last two losses. He was just throwing his former team a bone before the team quit in it's last two games. Len will not crap on the Bills until the writing is clearly on the wall. He is not going to burn any bridges with the Bills. Let me just say that of course I hope I'm wrong about this and that Jauron pulls a 180 and becomes a winning head coach. I clearly don't think that will happen though and I'm just sharing my opinion on this important subject heading into the 2008 season. -

Wow, I don't know what else there is to say. If you seriously think that Dick Jauron is a great, or even a good, coach who has just had the misfortune of being saddled with bad players and bad circumstances throughout his 7 seasons (117 games) worth of head coaching, then I can't help you. It's absurd to have so much faith in someone with such a long history of failure (yet you seem to have only gave Losman a fraction of time to prove himself compared to Jauron). It's never been Dick's fault, um yeah ok. Will you being saying this next offseason when the Bills have extended their playoff drought? Or will the 8th season of bad coaching finally prove to you that Jauron sucks. Sorry but 7 season's is enough of an indicator for me, thank you. P.S. The teams that the Bills played to drag themselves out of those holes sucked so bad they would make Paris Hilton blush. Is it asking too much that he beat a good NFL team one day? Apparently it is. -

1billsfan replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agreed. If after three years of player acquisitions and drafts Dick Jauron fails to get us to the playoffs because he rolled out the same old tired, safe, and predictable game plans that not even the Patriots or Colts rosters could overcome then he will need (as the Losman haters like to say) to be given a ticket on the next bus out of Buffalo. If Losman isn't allowed excuses, Jauron shouldn't be either. Especially given the fact that he's got a .437 winning record after 117 games as a head coach. Losman got only 35 games. It's amazing this is the guy Buffalo fans get to hang their playoff hopes on. Yet they somehow, someway buy what Dick Jauron's selling. It's amazing. -
I remember reading somewhere on another message board that there were rumors that he was a juiced player. It was when I was first doing searches on first round players. I know that message board rumors don't mean a hill of beans, but if I were a GM interested in this player I know I'd be doing a ton of homework on him and start by looking at pictures of him a year ago and compare that to what he looks like presently.

Just because that's what you and this beat reporter are expecting doesn't mean that's what's best for this team moving forward. NFL defenses showed that they pretty much have a GREAT handle on the Bills offense. If the Bills do not drastically change their approach then they will once again have a pathetic offense, because NFL teams (even the bad ones) will shut you down when they know what play is coming next and there's a very minimal risk of the long ball beating them. I can't believe that you're basically fine with v2 of the 2007 offense which is basically what you and that reporter are suggesting. I'm not at all on board with this plan and there's no doubt I'll be here either voicing my extreme displeasure or detraction regarding this matter. -

Your key quote when referring to Marv as a head coach was that "HE LET THEM PLAY". If Dick Jauron was the head coach in the late-eighties early-nineties Bills era, they would have NEVER reached the Superbowl and probably would have missed out on the playoffs more than a few times. Jauron may keep his players on an even keel, but he certainly does NOT let them play. Never has in his seven year and counting as a loser, play-it-safe head coach. Of course I hope he changes, but don't say I didn't warn you. -

If the Bengals took Kelly and Ellis fell to the Saints, I think teams 12-16 would be tripping over themselves to get to New Orleans' #10 spot and grab him. Denver, Carolina, Chicago, Detroit, Arizona ALL could use Ellis. If I were the Bills and Ellis fell to us somehow, I would look at the trade offers (a 2nd or both a 3rd and 4th could possibly be offered by teams back in the twenties range). -

I see that there's no mention of head coach Dick Jauron in your overview. Unless this guy has a major change of attitude in offensive philosophy, there's still much to be discouraged about if you're a Bills fan. Jauron is a career loser as a head coach and last season he received many "gimmie" type games against the NFL most putrid teams. I see Jauron as a guy who coaches like he's just happy to be sitting on the merrygoround, not someone who's going to risk falling off by trying to grab the brass ring. He refuses to attack teams or even at the very least be an unpredictable team. This is Dick Jauron. He's a guy that is averse to risk in any form or fashion. That will get you between a 7-9 and 9-7 record every year in the NFL, but what it won't get you is being a contender for the NFL championship. I hope this guy sees the light because I don't want to go through anymore changes. This guy WILL be gone if he pulls out the play-not-to-lose method and we're 7-9 again. Not a big fan of Jauron and hope this losing leopard can change his spots and grow a pair. The JP Losman excuse is gone, the Steve Fairchild excuse is gone. Thankfully, it will finally be his dumb play-it-safe ass on the hot seat (as it should be) in 2008. -

If Kelly does run in that range it would just go to show that there's entirely too much time for bs talk before the draft by the so-called NFL "experts" and fans on NFL message boards. The stock up, stock down, who's a reach and who's not a reach stuff gets a little ridiculous. I can't wait to see what he does tomorrow.
