  1. At least it showed leadership and commitment to his team and teammates. Edwards taking off like he did for the entire time struck me as arrogance. For a second year guy who crapped out like he did to end the 2007 season and who couldn't throw a touchdown pass if his life depended on it, for a guy like that who currently holds the most important position on the team to work on his golf game for the next three months looks to me as someone who does not look like he's very much interested in leading or getting better. I know he wouldn't say it publicly, but I bet you it ticked off Jauron, a guy who clearly has to win this season to keep his job, and it's why JP isn't going anywhere.
  2. The Bills' season ended on Dec 30 and the team starts practicing March 25. January, February, March. That's three months, please don't tell me you're splitting hairs on five days. "Hey, that's not fair! He's only been away for two months, three weeks and three days! That's completely acceptable. C'mon already, the guy's got to work on his golf game, he's already mastered the art of swooning Bills fans."
  3. Our rookie QB Trent Edwards obviously didn't feel so bad about his nose dive performance closing out the 2007 season. Our now second year starting quarterback took three freaking months off. I'm not surprised though, anyone would get a big head with all of the flowers thrown at his feet by the Buffalo fans and media alike. He must be laughing since he doesn't even have to show the ability to throw touchdown passes to please this Buffalo crowd. I think his leadership and commitment to the Bills is in question. I wonder if that's why the Bills are not actively shopping JP.
  4. When you're a team like Buffalo it is not easy to fill the WR outside of the draft. That's because free agent wide receivers like Burress, Moss and Owens simply aren't interested in coming here. Maybe if the Bills get good again they will be able to attract the big names. As for the the Giants, Osi Umenyiora and Justin Tuck weren't first round draft picks yet were the most valuable players on that defense. Taking it further...Allen DB, Shockey TE, Joseph DT, Manning QB, Webster DB (2nd rd, no first rd pick), Kiwanuka LB, Ross DB were all the first picks of the Giants' drafts since 2001. Exactly where are these dominating DL/OL players that they drafted in the first round again? You can't make blanket statements about who the Bills must pick first based on other teams like the Giants. The Bills are in no position to draft backup DL or OL when their offense was the worst in their entire history in 2007 because they had zero threats at WR beyond Lee Evans. It had a major negative effect on Edwards, Lynch and Evans' effectiveness and is the reason why they never got it in gear. So suggesting the Bills take a WR in the first round for the first time since 2004 is somehow equivalent to Matt Millon's multiple WR drafts? The Lee Evans pick was four years ago, talk about a reach.
  5. Sorry, but you're making no sense at all. It makes absolutely no difference that those players were acquired through free agency, they were former first round WRs. What's your argument regarding the Colts first round WRs? Your reasoning is very convoluted as to why the Bills should go OL/DL in the first and not take a WR which is the obvious, most intelligent and only choice. Am I the only one who thinks this thread is very bizarre?
  6. The Giants won the Superbowl with Plaxico Burress who's a former first rounder. The Colts won the year before with Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne, two former first round WRs. The Patriots almost went 19-0 with two former first round WR picks with Randy Moss and Donte Stallworth. This splitting of hairs on when guys are picked and that successful teams only draft DL with high picks is ridiculous. The Bills are in desperate need of another very good WR to have any shot at success going forward. Period, end of story.
  7. There was way too much love of Johnson around here. Not that there was anything wrong with that, I just never understood it.
  8. You're equating the non-signing of Bryant Johnson as proof that the Bills don't think the WR is critical? That's just crazy. Johnson was never going to be the answer to who would be able to draw attention away from Evans. The proof of that is how little interest there was in his services thoughout the NFL. Johnson is a first round bust. The Bill were looking for a WR that had experience who if given an incentive laden contract would be able to provide some depth and short term starter options at the #2. In other words, the Bills were going to draft a wide receiver in the first round regardless of whether they signed Johnson. Maybe you erased it from your memory, but the Bills offense was the worst ever in team history because of the critical WR situation. Seeing how smart the Bills (yes I did say smart) have been so far this offseason almost guarantees that they will do the smart thing once again and draft a WR at #11.
  9. In my first reply I mentioned that the Bills may chose a CB with the second round pick if they deemed that Youboty can not cut is as the nickel back. They probably will need to draft one in either the second or third round regardless because the depth is an issue at CB.
  10. Yes, the same one. The Bills and Greer were playing perhaps the best ever QB/WR combination in the history of the NFL who were hitting their peaks and they did this with the worst front seven in the NFL. Brady had zero pressure when playing the Buffalo Bills. No shame should be given to Greer or McGee based on the Pat games. You do realize that even the NFLs best CBs can not cover good WRs when there is no pressure when going against a good NFL QB, right? They literally had no chance.
  11. You're wrong... Greer and McGee are the best CB tandem in the AFC east, the Bills have their starting CBs and one will not be chosen with the first pick. They may chose one with the second round pick if they deem that Youboty can not cut is as the nickel back. I'm shocked at how down fans are with our corners, they played very well last season considering our front seven was the worst in the league. Edwards, Evans and Lynch are all desperately depending on the Bills getting them a #2 receiver. The Bills had their worst offense in their entire history in main part due to the massive hole over there at that position. For anyone to think that they will fill that position in the second round is to have a way overly optimistic view of the situation. The Bills will smartly draft either Kelly or Sweed. Just like last year when the clear choice was Peterson or Lynch, this year the only choice is Kelly or Sweed. It's true that the Bills had no shot at Peterson but it was clear to anyone that knows football that Lynch was the last surest guy left at RB. After Kelly and Sweed, you start getting into hoping a guy can get it done. Sorry, but the Bills are going to smartly and logically draft either Kelly or Sweed.
  12. I feel the same way about you, I too consider you to be a top notch poster, but we clearly have a differing of opinions regarding Losman. I think his story has yet to be written. He's still an unknown quantity to me. Yes, there's every chance that he's a clueless headed guy that will never be good enough to lead an NFL team. However, I also think that there's just as good a chance that he's a jewel that simply needs more polishing. This Bills team has been very bad, with a good very many bad players and very bad coaches. I look at who was the starters on our team in '06 and it's amazing to me that Losman was able to have as good of a season as he did. So there you have it, I refuse to give up on a player who I know has had it as bad as it gets in terms of support from coaching and player personnel. Eli Manning took 16 more starts than Losman to finally "get it". The Bills seem intent on throwing away four years of QB development prematurely. I think that you will see Losman back because the Bills still have lingering doubts about how Edwards finished the '07 season. The thought that NFL defenses had maybe caught up to his checkdown game and that's the reason why he may have struggled so badly. Losman will be the wildcard insurance policy should Edwards fail to come out of his checkdown bubble. If Trent does not have the arm to punish defenses crowding the line or if he can't stay away from IR, I think that Losman will be getting one more final shot with this team.
  13. Bravo, nice to see some Bills fans with real football intelligence. Way too many "follow the mob" type of fan around here.
  14. ...and Edwards, Evans and Marshawn will continue to sputter in a downward spiral. Did you not see our pathetic offense last season? They took Marshawn in the first last year because that was their greatest need, they will take WR in the first this year because that is their greatest need. I can't believe there are Bills fans that want them to pick CB in the first round. It was painful watching our team try to score touchdowns last year. CB???? I seriously can't take it anymore.
  15. Please tell me what CB is "worthy" of #11 who has a much better chance of NFL success than Kelly or Sweed. I'm starting to hear this line of thinking here repeatedly and it's absolute BS. We have our starting CBs, the Bills would be complete jackasses if they don't go WR first.
  16. That's a fallacy. How'd Lee Evans do in his first year? With the amount of turnover of rosters and the disparity of actual "good" teams in this league it is far easier to make an impact than it was a decade or so ago. Look at what Bowe, Boldin, Roy Williams did in their first year. The Bills offense has a hole the size of Lake Erie at that #2 receiver position. It's why Lee Evans had such a bad season, it's why Marshawn had little room to run, it's why the Bills scored the least amount of TDs in their history. What don't you understand? If the Bills select anyone other than Kelly or Sweed it will be because they outhought themselves and got cute. Considering how well they drafted last year and their renewed sense of smarts this offseason, fully expect them to make the right move and pick a nice tall WR with skills with that first pick. Kelly or Sweed will start and more than likely have success right off the bat like Mr. Lynch did. What Bills fans should really worry about is Kelly or Sweed's stock rising before the draft to the point where there's a question whether they'd be able to draft either one at 11. If Kelly runs a 4.35 we're screwed.
  17. I was weeks ahead of Chris on this one. The Bills are being smart in regards to free agency this offseason. My hope is that Kelly and or Sweed's stock doesn't dramatically rise between now and the draft and the Bills will get the opportunity to select the WR they want. Johnson was never going to be the answer at the #2 WR position and it's a joke that he was looking for a big contract being that he's for all intents and purposes, a first round bust.
  18. That is a very subjective statement. The players that will be picked in short order after the big 6 (both Longs, Dorsey, Ellis, McFadden and Gholston) will most likely be Clady, Stewart, Rivers, Merling, Harvey, Ryan, McKelvin, Mendenhall, Phillips, Jenkins, Rodgers-Cromartie. What makes ANY of these guys anymore worthy of being in the top 15 than Malcom Kelly? Kelly has just as good of a college resume as any one of those guys. Plus he's got the size, hands and athletic skills that at first glance should translate VERY well to the pro game. I think you are very wrong in that opinion. I even think that Sweed has just as good a chance as those same guys I mentioned. The prospects even out after the "big" names go off the board.
  19. The headline should read..."Chargers unlikely to find another sucker like the Giants" I moved on from my limited interest in Turner weeks ago.
  20. AJ fired a coach that got SD to 14 wins last season. I don't see him budging from his stance of getting a first rounder. Getting what Turner's worth is not important anymore, it's getting the upper hand on a team like they did with the Giants/Mannng trade. The heels have been dug in at this point. Time to move on and get a RB in the third round unless Peterson were to fall to us at 12.
  21. Michael Turner IS a backup runningback. Walter Payton was a better runningback than LT, he would never be LT's backup. Any other questions?
  22. Replace Sidney Rice with Jason Hill. Rice is coming out as a sophmore and looks to be much less polished than Hill who spent all four years in school. We need players that will start from day one, not three year projects.
  23. I've moved on. Turner is not worth this years first (see P. Willis) or next years first (see another potential superstar). You don't give up first round picks on a position that's the most replacable in the league. You especially don't give first round picks for players who are backups at a position that's the most replacable in the league. Not gonna happen, just move on.
  24. I was talking about getting Jason Hill (who does have an over 18 ypc avarage) in addition to Hunt. Sorry for the confusion.
  25. They have differing skills, yes. But BOTH are in the 2nd tier. What Hunt lacks in elusiveness which Pittman has, he makes up for in that he's a much bigger back and he's apparently much better at catching the football than Pittman. These are two big plus' for an NFL runningback. Be that as it may, Jason Hill would be a perfect complement to Lee Evans. Given the choice between having the replacement starters being either A. Pittman and P. Price or T. Hunt and J. Hill, the clear choice for me would be having Hunt and Hill replacing McGahee and Price. Which ever back they draft, they only have one year to make a good impression given the class of 2008 runningbacks.
