  1. Sorry not a bun hugger, just giving an opinion here. As for excuses, there are "excuses" and then there's something called "valid excuses". I think that while JP made some errors along the way in 2007, there were many valid excuses as to why the offense was so putrid and his QB performance was down the list for me. The way I look at things now is that JP has a proven deep ball that NFL defenses feared in 2006 and Trent "currently" does not. Trent can still overcome that, but to do that he's obviously going to have to eventually punish defenses with the long ball if he's ever going to have real success and get the Bills to the playoffs. Ever wonder why JP is still on this team? If he truly had no shot at success for this team, coaching staff and front office, why would the Bills even DEAL with having him here as a possible distraction for Edwards? Think about that. Losman is STILL on this team. They know that he's gone next year so why don't they actively shop him for mid to lower round draft picks in the 2008 draft? Picks that could be used to move back into the first if they do not select the WR at 11. I'll tell you why. It's because of Trent's last three games where NFL defenses clearly had the book and film on him. The Bills still don't know if he can get the defenses back on their heels like Losman did. They also don't know if Trent is too fragile for the riggers of the NFL. These are legit questions that even the Bills are clearly concerned with. If they weren't, JP would be being shopped around for pretty much anything. So you guys can laugh it off or whatever, but this Edwards/Losman isn't a closed deal until Edwards shows a good enough arm and stamina to have real success with the Bills and in the NFL. The Bills haven't closed the book on Losman so that right there is a red flag that they are not completely sold on Edwards. The Bills obviously feel Losman still may be the QB we've all been waiting on. There's clearly enough of a chance of that happening that they're willing to deal with the possible distraction as opposed to gaining an extra pick to use in a trade up scenario. Having said all that, I'll be rooting for Edwards to play lights out. I'm just very glad that Losman is still here and that the Bills still believe in him enough to keep him as the safety net if Edwards can't loosen up the opposing defenses or gets hurt again.
  2. What good did it do to get Lynch when they refused to use him in the passing game? How is it Losman's fault that Price went down with an injury? How is it Losman's fault that Dick and Steve decided to choke the life out of anything resembling unpredictability? The smart football fans here know that Losman has one of the best arms in the league, and if given the chance to use that arm along with a strong running game and at least one more real receiving threat other than Lee Evans, that he indeed is the guy we've all been waiting for since Kelly left. But noooo, the smart Bills fans must endure this sham of a qb situation. We are supposed to buy in to the Trent Edwards is the much better QB myth. Sorry, I'm not just buying it. I must now hope that I'm very wrong on this since Trent is going in as the starter, but I don't think I am. I think that the NFL defenses picked up on Trent's lack of arm and his tendencies to throw the check down pass. This was clearly on display those last three games of the season. If Jauron had balls he'd get that #2 receiver and TE that we've all been waiting for and then let Trent and JPs go at it for the starting spot. If Losman eventually gets a chance with a team that has weapons, a line and a smart coaching staff he's going to make a lot of fans angry at how they were so duped by the coaching staff, media and fans for buying into this myth.
  3. Because believe it or not, there are many people here that don't know what they're talking about. Greer did have an outstanding season and is going to be a very good to great player here for years to come. Considering the lack of anything resembling a QB pressure on defense, our corners played very well last season. Greer's one of my favorites on the team. Great post there.
  4. Give dates? Maybe you don't live around the New York area and never heard of the Jeremy Shocky dust up of why he stayed in Miami and wasn't willing to practice with Eli and the WRs over the winter. Maybe you just don't recall the many stories about Peyton Manning's relentless dedication during offseason's past (read early in his career) practicing with his WRs like Harrison. Maybe it's possible you didn't hear about the well traveled story of Robert Kraft not even knowing who this Brady kid was training everyday at the Pats facility in the offseason. Three QBs with tons of dedication who happen to have Superbowl rings. Look, I hope that Trent is "The Natural" that many here seem to think. He clearly seems to think he didn't need to put extra time in.
  5. Says the guy with the major Trent Edwards man-love crush.
  6. Old, she's not...putting out, she is...and did so yesterday thank you very much. Hey, I'd try to change the touchy subject to since there's really no good answer as to why Trent wasn't back here after a month, month and a half tops.
  7. You know what Eli Manning has done his since he's been in the league? He stayed in NY and practiced with his receivers during the offseason when he wasn't expected to. His brother Peyton did the same thing his first few years in the league. I heard that Brady never left NE's facilities in the offseason when he was starting out. Trent's priorities? Go play a whole lot of golf and get plenty of rest. Hey, why not. Buffalo Bills fans don't care as long as you can check down a whole bunch. You don't even need to throw touchdown passes to get their hearts all a flutter. Hey it's Buffalo, no one cares if you leave for three months even if you are the starter at the games most important position. It's a sad state of affairs when so many Bills fans here are so accepting of Trent's minimum time and effort. Unbelievable.
  8. Florida receivers never do well in the NFL. IMO there's no way that Caldwell is the answer for us at #2.
  9. So now you're considered a troll if you dare criticize Trent? Sorry, but that's about as weak as your loverboy's ability to throw touchdown passes.
  10. Why? Just because he showed up after a 3 month layoff doesn't mean the argument goes away dude. For a guy that completely fizzled out the way he did, to leave for three freaking months acting like a vested veteran was and still is wrong. Hate to break it to you, but it just might be that Trent's not into playing football as much as you guys like to think. He clearly wasn't too into being an offseason leader.
  11. Great point! There were an awful lot of people here stating that Pittman, Irons and Bookman would be the answer to replace McGahee and that Lynch wasn't worthy of a first round pick. How sound would that philosophy have been in hindsight? It's a ridiculous notion now. It's just like the WR discussion we are now having here. I was one of the few that was very pro drafting of Lynch in the 1st round, going so far as to say he was the perfect fit for the Buffalo Bills. It is with the same fervor that I feel the Bills must draft either Sweed or Kelly, that either one would be a perfect fit here, and that there won't be another capable WR to fill the #2 position after the first round. Just like it was with the RB situation in the 2007 draft.
  12. Not a chance. Whoever is leftover by the time we pick in the 2nd will NOT be capable of filling that WR spot. Plan on another 30th ranked offense if the Bills don't go WR in the first. Also plan on another coaching staff because there's no way Jauron stays around in 2009 after yet another dreadful touchdownless season in 2008.
  13. Josh Reed ran good routes also, but he somehow he failed to have a Jerry Rice-like career. BTW, Sweed has a 32" vertical leap along with his very tall 6'4" frame. Sweed is precisely who the Bills need, not another Josh Reed. I've had my fill of watching the Buffalo Bills go into the red zone with midgets.
  14. This is the smartest post I've seen regarding the #11 pick here at TSW. Bravo! The Buffalo Bills have the pick of the litter at their most dire position and fans here are disgruntled. Truly unbelievable. I guess fans feel the need to make things unnecessarily complicated. Hopefully the Bills brass will be employing the "keep it simple stupid" method.
  15. Sweed had 12 touchdowns in 2006. The guy is just a shade under 6'4'', just ran the 40 in 4.4 at his pro day and showed tons of character and grit by trying to participate in the Senior Bowl and the combine even though he was injured. Sweed is a top 10 pick if he doesn't get injured in '07. The guy has the height, size and speed to be a number one receiver and has the potential to become an All-Pro. The guy isn't afraid of going up for the ball either. The guy is being downgraded simply because media and fans love to get cute this time of year. I'm sorry, but for you to say that Earl Bennett is going to be the next Andre Reed I think that's just laughable. The guy is too small and slow for today's NFL cornerbacks. He may not even be able to cut it at the #2 spot considering his combination size and speed issues. Let's get real here. Maybe if he was there in the fourth, but the size and speed combination is way to much of a concern to draft him 1st through 3rd. Let's fast forward to the first game of the year, Bills have driven the ball down to the 9 yard line, it's 3rd and goal. Who do YOU want playing at the #2 receiver for the Bills in this position...the 6'4" Sweed or the 5'11" Bennett? Before you answer, let me just remind you that this scenario is going to be repeated about a couple of dozen times during the season. IMO, sorry guys but there's no other players in this draft that's going to fill the #2 position other than Sweed or Kelly.
  16. He broke the code!! He broke the code!! He found the hidden map to the championship! To think it was right there in front of us all this time! ...offseason gets so long people start losing their freaking minds.
  17. I don't know if you happened to watch the Bills offense circa 2007 but if you did you would find that Kelly or Sweed are EXACTLY what this team needs. You're flat out wrong in your analysis that both would be reaches in round one. That's laughable. The Bills already have their #1 receiver which makes the success of either of these players that much easier. You act as if this draft is loaded with "can't miss" players in round one. Nothing could be further from the truth. After the first eight players, the prospect potential levels out dramatically the rest of the round. Kelly and Sweed have every bit the potential on the pro level as whoever you would suggest the Bills pick in their place. You obviously don't recognize that these two WRs are lock first round picks that teams like the Titans and Eagles would be absolutely giddy to have the opportunity to pick. It would be boneheaded move if the Bills do not pick up one of these players with their first round pick. The Titans and Eagles will be sending the Bills gift baskets and thank you notes if that turns out to be the case. The Bills are drafting one of these guys and while you'll be upset when it happens, do not worry. You'll be very happy about when the Bills start scoring some long awaited touchdowns in '08.
  18. He'd pick Sweed because he'll be a much better pro than Thomas. Limas Sweed looks like he's got serious pro skills, Thomas looks like a guy that became a potential first rounder only after running a fast 40 time. The Bills would be fools to draft Thomas over Sweed or Kelly.
  19. I'm not interested in taking a player in the first round that only a month or so ago was a late 2nd to 3rd round pick. Fans and the media seem to be looking for things wrong with Sweed while they are swooning over Thomas for whatever reason. Call me crazy, but I'd rather put my money on the taller guy who played great for four years at the highest level. Not on a guy that only produced in his junior year after transferring from a JUCO college. If that doesn't bother you then that's fine, I'm just not looking for the "suddenly hot" prospect for that very important first pick. Taking Thomas over Sweed would be a definite head scratcher that would put the Bills decision maker's necks on the line. As a rule, you just don't draft late risers in the first round IMO.
  20. Why are you and other Bills fans here so high on Devin Thomas who's a one hit wonder former JUCO player? Nothing against the Devin, but Limas Sweed has been a stellar performer for four years at the highest level in college. The only reason Thomas' stock has risen is because he had at great 40 time. Is this the reason why he is all of a sudden a better player than Sweed in your eyes? The Bills should be going by what the player has done in his college career and not on 40 times. Sweed is the much better prospect and should be considered much heavily over a guy like Thomas who's a johnny come lately who only did well in one year. We don't want the Bills to pull a "Mamula" like the Eagles.
  21. I worry about Devin Thomas' late rise up the draft boards and fan support here at TSW. Here you have a guy like Sweed who has been bringing it for years at the highest level of college competition while fans and media are trying to find things to downgrade him on, then you have a one year wonder guy like Thomas who was a JUCO transfer that had only one very good season at the highest college level college. Why is it that fans and media try to outthink themselves like that? Isn't that what got the Eagles in trouble with them selecting Mike Mamula? I see that the Bills have interest in Thomas and them potentially falling in love with numbers rather than something that's been tried and true for years like Sweed. I like Sweed much better than I do Thomas, sorry but I'm not as swayed by 40 numbers. Hopefully the Bills are just trying to throw teams off the scent of what they're going to do.
  22. Please tell me you're not comparing our second year QB to Favre and Manning. Those two Hall of Famers were no doubt at their respective teams facilities during the offseason when they were first starting out. There's no way in hell that Manning took a three month vacation after his first season. So now Trent gets the same perks as veterans with over a decade served? This is priceless.
  23. Looks like somebody needs a Xanax.
  24. I don't think there's any harm in letting him try out for the Bills. I kind of hope he does get a final shot here and if it appears he truly has lost it then he can just retire a Bill.
  25. If Xanax helps make me believe in crap like that then I'll take a pass.
