Kevin Mawae - NLFPA President - on CBA
1billsfan replied to In-A-Gadda-Levitre's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
For the most part, NFL players have a very short shelf life, are interchangeable and easily replaceable so any significant stoppage of play would not be tolerated by the vast majority (non-stars). There would be mass defections and the players (yes even the stars) would eventually cave. It's already happened before and it would happen again the same way if they took a hard line on things. Mawae has his money already and sounds like he's leveraging for a high position in the players association after football. Pay no heed to his empty blustering. -

Oh please, I'm so tired of hearing the comparisons of Dick Jauron to Marv Levy. Levy was a risk taker and always seemed to give his players the opportunity to succeed or fail. These are qualities that are polar opposite to what Dick Jauron is all about...play it safe, don't take any chances, always wait until the other team makes the mistakes, play not to lose the game. Levy also had actual fire in the belly and it was apparent on the sidelines as he made it clear when he wasn't happy how things were going. Jauron? He just stands there with that dumbass look on his face. There is no way Jauron is the next Marv Levy, not even close. It doesn't matter anyways, you can say Losman is a done deal but you are still only speculating seeing how the guy still only has 35 starts and was always projected as someone who'd take a bit of time to develop. However, you're hanging your hat on Jauron being the next Marv Levy, sorry but that's a ridiculous reach in my book. At least Losman has a few more years to reach his full potential, Jauron is gone if he doesn't win this year. May be my opinion, but that's how I feel about things. -

If JP is a failure what does that make Dick Jauron? He of the 6 out of 7 losing seasons as a head coach. Losman was drafted a project QB who would no doubt take a few years to become what ever he is going to become. It is the toughest position in all of sports and the dude's still got only 35 starts. Losman is still an unknown at present time. Dick Jauron is a career loser who never wasn't even smart enough to heed what turned out to be JP's words of wisdom regarding the pathetic offensive playcalling very early in the '07 season. JP's book has yet to be fully written, unlike Jauron who will always be a loser and will be fired by our team and never get another head coaching gig after we go 7-9 again in '08. -
http://www.patsfans.com/new-england-patrio...ead.php?t=82910 I especially loved eye-popping gem..."Keep in mind that Ryan is part of the ESPN family. Anything he says about the Pats is biased." So now ESPN has suddenly become their worst enemy after nearly a decade-long slurpfest from them?

A whole lot of TSW members clearly care. You've been living under the proverbial rock if you haven't read the rampant homophobic rants of the JP Losman haters.

Roger Goodall gave us all a bold face lie when he said that he has no reason to not believe the Pats that these tapes were not used during the games. No reason???? Walsh said he was told to not get caught. Didn't Belichick say he thought what they were doing was within the league rules? That's an outright lie. This thing isn't going away. The NFL is desperately trying to cover up the biggest scandal in league history. I have to laugh when I hear Goodall telling us how unprecedented his non-suspention penalty was.

That would be a touching sob story if it weren't for the fact that the Jets and Dolphins were about inept offensively as an NFL team could get. They were ranked 26th and 28th respectively. That's four of Jauron's wins right there. Sorry but us stopping them was not the miracle you are making it out to be. As for the practice squad level comments, I'd argue that the replacements played as good or better than the starters at the beginning of the year. Greer is way better than Webster, was Poz going to play that much better than Digiorgio did last year? No. Wilson played as good of free safety as the still very average Simpson has ever had for this team. Kelsay sucks, so a wooden door would have played as well as him. Stop making last year into this epic season of attrition. It wasn't. I saw with my own two eyes this team badly being outcoached when not facing the NFL's version of the little sisters of the poor. I'm still angered by Jauron's lack of imagination and unpredictability in his gameplanning. We all hope our opinions on this matter are wrong, but his history tells us another story. Last year was the final straw for me, I gave him a chance to show me what he has in terms of head coaching ability and came to the conclusion that the Chicago Bears were right in firing him. He doesn't have what it takes. You all are waiting for the perfect team for him to coach, THAT'S NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN HERE! We need a coach that can get the most out of a flawed team. Not someone who pads his feeble coaching wins stats on the NFL's most inept teams then gets killed when facing a well coached team.
-
You didn't read it correctly. I said he wasn't coaching to win like Coughlin and Belichick clearly do, but rather he coaches to "not lose" the game. I never suggested he coaches to lose games. As for Coughlin, you're leaving out the tremendous amount of cache he had earned in Jacksonville coaching his teams to 11-5, 11-5, and 14-2 consecutively before the wheels fell off and was fired after three losing seasons. Jauron has never had that kind of sustained success, his only claimed is the magic-dust year he won 13 games with a team that had what was widely considered the most fortunate lucky bounce season ever. Coughlin had a proven track record that Jauron still can't touch, even after his fall from grace with the Jaguars. Dick is going to get his chance this year, but if I don't see a major change in attitude when we face the good teams of the league, then I will be here giving Jauron both barrels full of criticism. Last year made me angry watching how we were coached, this year he has to actually earn his freaking job and light a fire under our player's asses when they face the Pats. I could give a crap about beating the sh_tty NFL teams, that should be a given and no big deal to this team. Stop your pity party for Jauron, the guy's lived a charmed life considering his now very long head coaching career and having a very lackluster .437 record.

Oh please, spare us the drama-filled hyperbole. I'm just telling you how I see it, if it hurts your feelings that I think Jauron stinks as an NFL head coach then you're just going to have to pull yourself together and get over it man. The ones who agree with me are tired of hearing how Jauron is the next Tom Coughlin or Bill Belichick. Those guys are tough head coaches coaches that train their teams hard, have very few injured players and coach to win, not to not lose their games. Three things Jauron knows nothing about. There are good coaches like Belichick and Coughlin, then there's the pushovers like Dick Jauron. He's the classic nice guy finishing last. All I know is if this team lays down like they did twice against the Pats and the last three games of 2007, then Jauron should and hopefully will have punched his ticket out of Buffalo. He stinks, yes I said it. Let's see him prove the apparently few doubters like me wrong. I'd love to see it, but sadly I don't see that happening. Just ask a Bears fan if they have ever missed Jauron.

PROOF THE $&%@# PATS* CHEAT!!!
1billsfan replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agreed. This has not only tainted the Pats, it's tainted the entire NFL for me. It's my feeling that the Pats were reaping a HUGE competitive "in-game" advantage by cheating this way. Why else would they have continued to do it for so long. They did it in the Steelers upset win that set them on their way. This is the team that has been the face of NFL excellence for an entire decade and it's all phoney. Almost an entire decade of the NFL's authenticity is now one big fraud to me. So what was Goodell's crackdown to such a disgraceful act which threatens the league's legitimacy? He let the offending coach off without any suspension whatsoever. I can't even express how angry I am about this. Between the commissioner's embarrassing non-punishment of the Pats, thug's like Pac-Man and the crybabies like Willis McGahee and Chad Johnson, the NFL appears to have already "jumped the shark". It's become a joke. Nice going Roger. -
Poor DJ???? Remember how bad the 2-14 '85 and half of '86 Hank Bullough Bills were? Well Marv Levy got them to a 12-4 record after only a season and a half. Remember how bad the 2-14 '92 Dick MacPherson Pats were? Well Bill Parcells got them to 10-6 after only one season. Remember how bad the 1-15 '96 Rich Kotite Jets were? Well Bill Parcells got them to 9-7 the following season and 12-4/AFC Championship game the season after that. Remember how bad the 5-11 '02 Dave Campo Cowboys were? Well Bill Parcells got them to 10-6 the following season. I'm sorry, but I'm sick and tired of the "poor DJ" sentiments. How about the poor Buffalo Bills fans who are being saddled with this lifelong loser of a head coach? DJ's been given FULL REIGN over this organization for three seasons worth of drafts and FA acquisitions to go along with the talent that was here already like Peters, Evans, Crowell, Schobel, McGee, Parrish, Mooreman, and Lindel. If he can't get it done in his third year here then he needs to go. Poor DJ? To me, there is no luckier guy in the NFL than DJ, how else could you explain how a guy with a .437 coaching record over seven seasons can still have a head coaching job. Fans here are more than happy to proclaim JP a big fat loser after only 35 games yet unbelievably still are giving DJ a pass after 117 games as a head coach. The excuses and the apologies should be over for all Bills fans regarding this coach in 2008. If you support Jauron staying on as head coach of the Bills after a no better than 8-8 season in 2008, then you're a bigger DJ fan than a Bills fan.

Jauron was conservative because of a lack of talent? To this I say, Marshawn Lynch had a pitiful 18 receptions last year. Yet Lynch had a better yards per catch average than Westbrook and LT and had the same yards per catch average as T.J. Houshmandzadeh and Hines Ward. Can you defend why Jauron decided not to use Lynch in the passing game when everyone knew he was a threat when catching the ball and proved it when given his limited chances? I don't think he truly believes his neck is on the line in 2008. Too many flowers have been tossed at his feet by the fans and media of this team for him to feel this way. I'll believe he's changed when I see it on Sunday's. Jauron's only seems motivated when he's playing the weak teams of the NFL, when he plays the big boys he's more than happy to keep the game close and lose. I laugh at his stupid press conferences after those games. "'I'm proud of our guys"..."They played hard"..."We just didn't get the breaks"..."Blah blah blah blah". I've had it with him. I can now only wait and hope he can change his style and actually beat the good teams in 2008. History says he won't do that.

While Dick Jauron was and still is a calming and steadying influence as the Bills head coach, this does NOT mean that he is, was or will ever be a good NFL head coach. Jauron's coaching style will never lend itself to a team's goals of achieving greatness. He simply does not trust his offensive playmakers enough to make plays in the passing game. He's clearly much too afraid of the foward pass ending up in an interception. This is his fatal flaw as a head coach. The only way that Jauron saves his job is to allow Edwards the opportunity throw the ball to Lynch, Evans, Jackson, Hardy and Parrish when the defenses do not expect it. That would be on first and second downs, third and short. If he continues to not trust in his offensive players other than Lynch up the middle, Lynch left and Lynch right, he might as well pack his bags now. Our offense was a joke last season because Jauron failed to let the offense loose. Yes, his style will always get you around .500. But is that what we Bills fans are happy with now???? His style will NEVER beat any of the good teams. Good teams force you to beat them by taking what is called "RISKS", buy risks I mean attacking the opponent with the passing game as well as the running game. It's my opinion that that Dick Jauron will be fired if he does not change his "play not to lose, never take any chances, let the other team beat themselves" coaching style in 2008. Because this team will win no more than eight games and the mob will be finally significant enough that Wilson could not possibly think he will ever get this team to the promised land. No matter how nice and classy the guy is, breaking even every year isn't going to cut it for a team with a non-playoff streak as long as ours.

One way or the other, Losman is eventually going to prove one of us a fool. I do think credit should be given to the Losman supporters around here because it's obviously a VERY unpopular opinion to have here at TSW. The insults and ridiculing get old. This unpopular opinion is also one that unless Edwards gets injured again, fails miserably to the point of getting benched, or Losman get's his shot with his next team, there's simply not going to be an end to this discussion. You and all the others can adamantly state that he is and always will be a bad QB, but that's still your opinions. Losman was drafted as a project QB and from where I see things, he's still developing. I do think he's got more fire and toughness than Edwards, I think he has a better arm. I think if he were given an offense that played up to his strengths, he'd be a much better and much more dangerous of a QB than Edwards. I'm not going to apologize for my opinion and I'm not going to change it. I need see his career play out a little longer to either be proven right or wrong on this opinion. Every damn thread about Losman goes round and round and round and nobody ever changes their minds. I think that maybe we're both fools for continuing to get sucked into these stupid debates. -

I said if given a fair shot. I still think JP's a better QB than Edwards, but I favor the guy with the gunslinger with the big arm over the smart guy who can't get the ball deep. My fear is that Edwards will be the second coming of Chad Pennington. -

If he were given a fair shot at competing?... He could definitely win the starting QB job for these NFL teams...Bills, Jets, Dolphins, Texans, Raiders, Chiefs, Redskins, Vikings, Bears, Panthers, Falcons, 49ers. -

...and the daily Losman bashing crusades aren't tired???? Only the Losman haters are allowed crusades???? C'mon already. I reserve the right to argue my points on this subject because it is my belief that no NFL quarterback would be successful with that appalling and putrid offensive system Jauron trotted out last season. Not Brady, not Manning, not Favre. As long as there are fans dumping on Losman's 2007 season there will be me dumping on Jauron's inability to put a professional gameplan together. Losman was right, to paraphrase...his gameplans sucked. If I were Edwards, I tell him to either open it up or get ready for another disgruntled and vocal QB. There's only so much blame a QB can take for that level of coaching incompetence. -

Jauron was the man who was responsible for the historically bad Bills 2006 offense. It wasn't Fairchild, it wasn't LOSMAN, and it wasn't Edwards. It was Dick Jauron. THAT is why it is "germane" to this discussion. Having Jauron as your head coach for an NFL quarterback is about as cheery as having reverend wright as your paster in a presidential election. -

The Bills made a determination of what they'd accept for compensation in a trade offer for Losman. They weighed his worth as a backup to an injury prone starter (Edwards) vs whichever rookie they would receive in return. I'm thinking it was a second rounder. Why would the Bills risk a Trent Edwards injury for a third rounder or less in this the most crucial Bills season in over a decade. IMO they wouldn't and smartly didn't. So there you now can understand the unwillingness of the GMs of any NFL team interested. There obviously was not one GM willing to throw down a second round pick on a guy with only one year left on his contract and with so little cache as Losman currently has in this league. No matter how much they'd want him on their team, the risk of having Losman fail and it costing them their jobs in the fall out was way too great to ever expect any GM to stick their neck out as much as that trade would require. -

Making excuses is what the Jauron lovers do best. I never heard so many excuses for why this NFL head coach is such a loser. If Edwards starts looking bad in 2008 because of the p*ssy offensive gameplanning like there was in 2007 then Bills fans who hated on Losman may finally come to realize it wasn't his or Edwards fault after all. The book on Losman hasn't been written yet, Jauron's is pretty much cast in iron now. -

I think the way that this plays itself out is that after this season, Losman signs on as a FA with the Jets in 2009, wins the starting job, and proves Buffalo doubters like Sullivan wrong. -
...and if that ride ends in a 7-9 or worse record just like 6 of the 7 other seasons the Dickster's been an NFL head coach, he SHOULD BE FIRED. If anyone here thinks otherwise then IMO they are bigger Dick Jauron fans than Buffalo Bills fans.

Marshawn Lynch had only 18 catches, but also had a 10.2 average of yards gained per catch. That was as good as TJ Houshmandzadeh's (10.2) and Hines Ward's (10.3) YPC. Want RBs comparisons? He was better than both Brian Westbrook (8.6) and LT (7.9). Yet Marshawn only had a pitiful 18 catches for the whole season. Lynch was a guy that everyone knew, except apparently Dick Jauron, was a true threat in the passing game. The only one that's ignoring talent here is Dick Jauron. I'd be more than happy if Jauron proves his doubters like me wrong and I'll just leave it at that.
