Jim Kelly scored a 15. Marino scored a 16. Fitz scored a 48. i would be lying to say that I could see the Lamar-Vince Young nfl comparison. I just don’t think some Bills fans (which I get) don’t realize that Lamar and Allen have similar problems throwing the ball. They both need to improve big time.

Josh Allen Apparently Loves Popeye’s Chicken
C.Biscuit97 replied to Phil The Thrill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was thinking he was looking a like thicc in that picture. But he hasn’t lost his speed and the majority of qbs have terrible bodies. -
The guys who drafted Allen built his offense. They traded up to take Zay Jones in the 2nd round. They traded a 3rd for Benjamin. They picked Dawkins in the 2nd. They signed a $3 million backup rb to back up one of the highest paid rbs. I hope they both improve as passers. But it’s weird that one is considered a gimmick while one is just hurt by the lack of talent around him.

But if they said he was awesome, they would be cool. Fans are so sensitive about opinions they don’t like. If Allen was on another team that was bad and not on national tv a lot, we’d talk about how much he is struggling too. Weird. I thought he was a guy you would like. Oh, of course, you won’t like him.

The opposite is also true. Believe it or not, it’s not the entire rest of the offense’s fault every time Allen makes a bad play. this, like every qb debate, becomes a stupid political debate. There are the “homers” who blame everyone else, ignore his faults, and make excuses. He has 2 tds in a game, people say he will be a top 10 qb. Then there are the “haters” who ignore how hard it is to be a rookie QBs, the awful offense (which the guys who picked Allen created), and say he will be a bust. i try to remain in the middle. I’m not a fan of upside, low production college qbs. Especially in the top 10 of a draft. I can clearly see the potential but I worry that we will keep talking about his upside while he struggles to consistently reach it. But let’s hope that the guys which trade for Kelvin Benjamin and Jordan Matthews gets him real receivers so we can stop excuse making and just evaluate him.

Eh, it was a little rough but to a non Bills fan, how far off was it? We got rid of Tyrod, who helped us get to the playoffs, because he wasn’t a great passer. Well, Allen is competing 52% of his passes for 5 tds and 9 ints. His best skill is running the ball. He is a rookie so it’s different. But there is a slight double standard in how both guys are evaluated by Bills fans. If Tyrod had Allen’s season, he’d be completely run out of town. I’m a Bills fans so I get the difference. But plenty of non Bills fans don’t understand the move. Bomani Jones and Pablo.

He has terrible completion % since high school. Fans (again, I get it) pretend like he is the only qb that has dropped passes. And Big Ben was like a 70% passer in college and dominant. https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/ben-roethlisberger-1.html Allen is super exciting but you need to be consistent to be great. You can’t just keep dismissing everything. Honestly, he’s been the guy I’d thought he be but he is definitely faster. I get why scouts like him. But how many 1st round guys become better in the pros than they were in college, especially a lower level one?
-
But you’re a Bills fan. In reality, they have been very similar. I want you to be right. But our guy has thrown 5 td passes and 9 ints and a 62 QBs rating. Jackson has 4 td passes to 3 ints and a 79.9 qb rating. Again, I want Allen to be the guy but why is one guy just getting dismissed? Especially a guy who was much, much, much better in college against much harder competition. and I would take Allen over Jackson, but man, it’s a lot closer at this point than some Bills fans want to admit.
-
I mean I guess. Allen certainly has the stronger arm but they are both flawed passers. I think our fans are quicker to point out Jackson’s flaws than Allen’s. When in fact, they are both pretty flawed. and the Ravens’ receiving core is nothing special. Crabtree is washed and John Brown has had one good year. Do you think the same way about Allen? Because they are playing very similarly.

I overall agree with your post but isn’t the whole job of a GM to have more of a crystal ball than fans?!? when you trade up for a non qb twice in twice drafts, which the previous GM used to criticize for, and possibly better players get chosen in the original draft spot, you should be open for criticism. That said, I’m not worried about TE. I generally agree but he wasn’t playing well before he went out again. But the lesson is never rush back earlier on a foot injury. It is a sneaky kill of athlete’s careers.

Vikings Fire OC John DeFilippo

I really hope the Bills don’t think this. -
Watkins was one of the best college receivers I have ever seen. In that one stretch with Tyrod, he was a top 10 receiver. Since he came back from the first injury, it hasn’t been the same. And in today’s nfl, you don’t need to be a killer MLB (apparently Dick Butkus played on all really bad teams). But I do think some fans underestimate how much natural instincts it takes to be a great MLB. It’s why very average athletes like Zach Thomas can become really good players. The ability to diagnosis a play quickly is a skill. TE doesn’t have those instincts yet.

It’s an interesting idea for a star but he is flawed. Qbs who run a lot aren’t going to last long in this league. Regular qb rating is also a flawed stat as well. imo, Allen is basically the guy I thought he was and had ranked with Lamar Jackson (he is much faster than I ever imagine though). All the physical tools but his passing needs some major work. Hopefully upgrades on offense will aid in his development. I still have my doubts on the “all the tools but struggles with accuracy” qbs but I hope I’m wrong and he takes a major step next year.

Amazing Max Unger Stat

The sneaky thing too is Russell Wilson is averaging one of the lowest yards per game in the league. Pete Carroll is insanely underrated. One of the best coaches of this generation. -
I’m really not worried about TE but they put a lot on him. It’s rarely smart to trade up for a non qb. He needs to become an elite type MLB to really justify it, which is harder than fans think. But at the absolutely worse, he will be a really good OLB. also, I still think the Browns should have drafted Chubb. That would improve your secondary. It’s early but that’s a really good defensive draft.
