Like I said, 2013, new system, new staff, we brought in Lawson. He skipped. The "it shows they don't really wanna be here" card or whatever was played. And he ended up being the second best LB on the team that year.In

but
To me it says a lot about players that you sign as free agents or trade for when they dont show up......
These guys are veterans
Williams frankly IF HE IS HEALTHY should be in there working to silence his critics.....and working to keep either Cog or Miller on the bench. If he had any competative fire that is what he would be doing instead he is sitting on the paycheck he got from the bills last year.
Bryce Brown should be in there making sure that Rex knows who his name is........we let Spiller go.....Fred is probably a 1 more year player.......Boobie Dixon isnt really a rotational back.......Karlos probably starts off on special teams......if BRYCE WANTED TO COMPETE for a job.....he would be there.
To me.....voluntary participation really is not voluntary.......not in these situations

Geno has had higher highs and lower lows than Eeeeeeeege.
In other words he is completely inconsistant.......which is something you dont want in a QB

I was thinking Bills might take Petty. Good project. wish we grabbed him honestly. Taylor is the unknown.

Geno should be the starter and his team to lose. Gailey might get him more efficient. got Fitz while bringing up Bryce.

In order to take Petty we would have had to pass on John Miller.....who is running with the ones

I've never seen a linemans season ruined by missing a no pads, optional, practice in May. Nice to get good attendance but no need to dramaticize it
My concern is that Chris Williams is not healthy......back injuries for these linemen is no joke and tends to be a terminal thing.
I am not overly concerned because it looks like the bills had a play that didnt include Williams.....he is however eating a good chunk of salary.

That's because he plays for someone else. If Geno were the Bills QB during his first 2 season everyone would be all but done with him.
Pretty much why the backup QB position is the best place to be on the Bills. Everyone on TBD is talking about you.
And saying "we" is painting broad strokes. There are plenty, including myself that were in favor of EJ being benched after the Houston game but that doesn't mean people gave up on him.
I realize that we is probably not the best term.....
I just find it funny how a lot of people that are making interesting excuses why it is ok for the jets to NOT have given up on Gino and ALL BUT given up on EJ and cite the same reasons.

Geno has had some great games, so the potential is there, he just needs to cut down on stupid decisions. Whether that will happen or not, who knows. It'll be interesting to see him work under Chan, at the very least. I don't know why everyone expects every QB to be great so early in their careers... he's young, who knows what the future holds.
And yet we do the same with EJ Manuel.......
I have a couple of observations. First, Geno improved dramatically last year from his first year. QB rating up, sacks taken down and TD/INT ratio got better. Sure they drafted Bryce Petty in the 4th round, but why on Earth would anyone think there needs to be an open competition to see who starts? Fitzpatrick is a known commodity and nothing better than a backup. Chan will be great for Petty and Geno's development, but Geno should be the starter. I've said this before and about Manuel as well. You don't draft a guy in the first round, start him out of the box and then bench him. It is beyond stupid and only slows the growth of the quarterback. I think it's a great move for the Jets to give all the first team reps to Geno and see what he can do. If he turns in another year like last (which was far from great mind you) or doesn't really improve a lot, they can move on with Petty next year.
Gino had no where to go but up in the Int department.

As I said before with Chris Williams....the back injury frankly scares the crap out of me given his salary.....
I would MUCH rather have Urbik backing up these positions.....he isnt a pro bowler but he is solid.
Chris Willams and Bryce Brown.....frankly are making it easy to get rid of

When will people understand that not every player on your team.....especially BACKUP PLAYERS on your team can be a name player.
If you want to be good you have to be smart in free agency (and aggressive) but you also have to bring along players behind them that can step in and play well in spurts.....
There are a couple of linebackers on this team that I feel fit this mold.....and they have all stars playing around them.
