  1. You certainly should factor the Murray signing into the Iggle side of the deal, which is all I did. I don't know that Murray would have come to Buffalo for $5M more of his deal guaranteed and I don't know that he wouldn't have. No point in claiming that we could have had him, which is why I didn't.

The Bills gave up a third year LB who was DROY, on his rookie deal and who plays a position that has normal longevity in the NFL, but is coming off an ACL that was torn a year ago. In return the Bills got a RB who has been playing at an elite level, but they had to pay him at market value and have to count on him transitioning to the Bills scheme. He will be 27 before the season starts and plays a position where 30 usually marks the end of high productivity.

We won't know who was the winner in this trade (and it could be one team, both teams or neither team) and who who was the loser for some time, but I'd like my odds better if I was an Iggles fan. I hate losing Alonso, I have concerns about Shady fitting into the Bills scheme and I have concerns about paying a RB like McCoy is getting paid (especially before he proves his worth in the system).

Why would you like your odds better as an eagles fan. There is nothing to support that.

  2. I just don't get the argument that Murray is going to be fresher than Shady. Shady is a year younger and the nature of how he runs he takes less of a pounding than Demarco does. Murray got pounded hard because of the nature of his running style. I'll take Shady any day.

The arguement is there because that is the move Buffalo DIDNT make......therefore needs to be bitched about by some

    I guess

  3. Interesting opinion but I think that's wrong. They don't need media to turn up the heat on EJ. He already feels it. New staff bringing in competition for equal reps and open play? He knows he is likely on his last chance with the Bills an likely, the league. Sure, the media plays into it, but I'm sure he felt plenty of pressure before the whole "cut EJ" mess began

I think EJ felt heat from the moment he got benched......

Sure.....he can latch onto the fact that its a new coaching staff.....but this is NOT the coaching staff that drafted him either.

EJ is going to have to outplay the other QBs.....and by a wide margin....in order to be under center this year.

  4. The last 2 points were the most pointed ones:

The Bills defense was pretty good in 2014 without Alonso. That’s not to say that it wouldn’t have been even better with number 50 on the field, but with the emergence of rookie Preston Brown and third-year pro Nigel Bradham, Buffalo’s linebacker corps took care of business. With one of the top defensive minds in the NFL as its new head coach, this defense may even improve upon last year’s performance. And now they’ve added Shady on the other side of the ball to put up points for this unit to protect.

Kiko Alonso is just coming off an ACL tear he suffered last off season. Plenty of players have injured their ACL’s and returned to have solid careers, but it’s never a sure thing. As much as Buffalo embraced the legend of Kiko, we’ll never know what it could have been. Instead, we will have to deal with an All-Pro running back who only once in his six year career has fallen short of reaching 1,000 all-purpose yards (rookie year: 945 APY).

The emperors new clothes. Seems to me that in a historic free agent year for pro bowl RBs on the open market at a time when RBs are historically undervalued, the Eagles picked up a top tier RB to replace the one they lost while also adding a pro bowl linebacker. Maybe someone can explain to me how giving up Kiko for shady is better than keeping Kiko and adding demarco a North South runner who wee need to set up 3rd and 1.

    A couple of things.....

Who cares what the eagles did to replace their running game? We are the bills not the eagles and trading for an asset and then seeing what they do for their own organization is pointless.......the BILLS got immediately better which is all that matters

Is Kiko a pro bowl linebacker? I must have missed it but I dont remember him making the pro bowl in his rookie season.......regardless of off season accolades like ALMOST winning rookie of the year he did in fact tear his ACL........which is in fact his second ACL injury (so now both acl's have been injured at some point) he did in fact miss his second season......and the Whaley did in fact draft Preston Brown who was a superb ILB in his second season.....the bills were top 5 without Kiko and that is how a good GM makes his team better.....he moves assets around to improve both sides of the ball...which he did superbly.

Also.......not only has Whaley done a great job in the drafting high but IMO he has done a superb job of finding LB's late.......watch out for some of our late round draftees start to make contributions as they showed well.

I have no doubt that Kiko would have made our D even better........but lets look at this real time.....is there a huge difference between being 3rd overall D/25 overall O when it can be 5th overall D/13 overall O (completely guestimates....but you get my drift....BALANCE between O and D without sacrificing one for the other in a noticable way)

This was absolutely the right move....and good luck to Kiko with the Eagles

  5. Is Pegula paying significantly more for this coaching staff than the 2014 staff was paid?

I cant find the dollar amount posted but yes I do think we are paying more...especially more then we used to pay for the ASSISTANT coaches then we have in the past. I think Marrone got more then we have paid (lets keep in mind that the wheels of change did not start happening with Rex but the year prior......with a new young GM Whaley in control you could see that things were already in motion......when the Pegula's came on board it was change on sterioids)

Is Rex/Thurman that much better than Schwartz?

IMO they are certainly not WORSE then Schwartz....I think we got really lucky with Schwartz that year. I have said all along that sometimes the bext OC and DC guys are former HC who made their bones being shart OC and DC's. Rex Ryan is widely acclaimed to be one of the better defensive minds on this NFL's generation.......I dont even worry about the D.......what we need to see is if Rex has learned from his first Jets HC stint and taken his hands off of the offense and let the rockstar OC that he hired do his job.

OP posted this after the MArrone hire: "One thing that strikes me, is that our three new coaches all sound really, really articulate and sharp. Not your father's Bills".

Because a lot of these guys are future HC material

Isn't this said here every time there is a HC change?

I think that the quality of the coaches is always talked about being better.....but not the amount of money spent on the coaches being more.......I look at this coaching staff overall and you see quality right down into the positional coaches.....Rex Ryan is creating his own "coaching tree"

  6.

    In a word, no.

Sammy is very good, of course, and Charles Clay has proved effective at times, but no... it's not enough to uproot the cheating juggernaut that's had a choke-hold on the division for 15 years... We need at least ONE very big guy to help our sorry QB's in the red zone... No hesitaton, just toss it up, and let the big guy go get it...It'd be nice if someone like Chris Manhertz 6'5" 260-ish developed, but that's a very long shot, IMO... We need that blunt force weapon... That Ace of spades... You can't be a "bully' in this league without the physical prowess. -Size matters.

    34.....

That does not fit Roman's offense that has been very effective.

To me that is the whole reason why he is here......pure genious at running the ball and playoff/super bowl experience as a OC.

Its not just about height....its about catch radius and large bodies......in the red zone its 2 TE time.......you dont need a tall wide reciever when you have players on the field with wide catch radius.......

  7. I've been watching Nick for years, and I think he's a tremendous athlete... However... I think he needs a "big threat" (Benjamin or Funchess) type WR opposite him in order to really thrive.... as the league's offense have gravitated towards these types of weapons, we've shyed away... A big mistake IMO... I hope Dezmin Smith makes it, but I seriously doubt it... He's BARELY practice squad material IMO... We need more size at WR for 3rd down, as well as for "toss up" red-zone situations.. Until we get that, the playoffs will be a tall order.

So a guy like Sammy Watkins just doesnt cut it huh?....and in the red zone a guy like Clay...known for being a red zone target....doesnt cut it either?

  8. This is what this whole issue is about clearly.

    and on this specific matter

    i agree.

never dis your elders. never ever disrespect the dead. no matter what.

    careless wording is careless thinking.

regardless of Mr Wilson as an Owner.

just apologise for the error and lets move on as friends again

and Have a great Memorial Day.

    Everyone !

    Go Bills !

Agreed and I am sorry that I overreacted on a term.....

I never got the chance to meet Ralph Wilson even when I was on the right coast of the US to do it.....and I really wanted to at some point.

Anyways.....but great man and I wish he could have lived to see this team win the championship

  9. I didn't leave Buffalo 35 years ago, not sure where you pulled that one from. Also, you don't need to be geographically close to a situation to understand it. There are ways to stay on top of things... internet, newcasts....

I stand by what I said, Ralph was a target during the down years, and there were way too many down years.

I dont hate your posts for disliking Ralph Wilson...because we had a losing team...that is your right as a fan......

But you talk of the passing of Ralph WIlsons say it with god damn reverence........talking about how he "croaked" did set me off a bit......

    Ralph Wilson did not croak

The great man that was Ralph Wilson passed away after making sure that the city of Buffalo would not lose their team.......and while doing so was a huge giver in charities along the way......

  10. Meanwhile in NJ...

@AroundTheNFL: Jets DE Sheldon Richardson on skipping voluntary OTAs: "I have a life"

    http://t.co/Jwz9nSwNTs

    This is just my opinion

But that is what is wrong with these "stars" these high paid players and why bad teams stay bad

When you are THE player on your team.....you should be setting an example to the younger players on your team.....it isnt just about Richardson....its about winning......and buy in to the team breeds winning......sure Richardson might play great? What about that young player behind him that sees him "having his life" while the rest of the team is together?

    and

To me Williams and RIchardson are not on the same breath......WIlliams is fighting for spot on the roster...he NEEDS to be there

  11. There are some posters that inhabit another board that are all over O'Leary being drafted........saying he wont even make the team.....

Myself? I dont see it......O'Leary is in the perfect position....

    Clay is the undisputed starter.........

O'Leary is old school and a willing blocker.....while not dominate at it

When they go 2 TE sets (and Roman runs LOTS of 2 Tight End sets) Clay and O'Leary gives the bills two very dependable pass catchers

I personally see a offense that is gonna blow up this year.......the pieces are falling into place

  12. If you franchise Dareus twice it doesnt send a good message to the other players in the locker room.

If the Pegulas take care of their own, other players will want to come here and more players will want to stay. Need to undo the culture that's been created the last 20 years where players have great seasons and walk out the door.

Signing the best DT in the league, that we also happened to draft, is a huge step into sending a message to future Bills. You perform well here, you will be rewarded.

See there is this thing called the salary cap......and all the other NFL teams have to live by it no matter how rich their owner is.....

    and.....well....you know
