  1. Fred groupies think if Mccoy fails it will prove how great Fred is or something crazy. You see, they like pointing to the fact that the bills kept him over lynch and spiller and they think it actually has something to do with Fred instead of the reality that spiller (and lynch's attitude) made lynch expendable and the bills didn't know how to use spiller nor did they want to pay him too much...although they offered him a fair deal that would have paid him more than they ever paid fred. I guess my point is that it's just people being out of touch with reality when it comes to fred.

Or maybe that just root for the character players on the bills?

  2. There's a 3rd aspect that's not being discussed -coaches schemes. Our OL under Gaily was considered very good as Fitz was rarely sacked. Thing is, the ball left his hand in 2 seconds. Same personnel one year later under new coaching? 'They're terrible! They SUCK!'

Rodgers & Brady alike have had weak, injury-depleted lines in recent years. Get the ball out faster and no one notices..

The rub on Galey's O line schemes is everything was short....and eventually teams started taking that away forcing deeper throws.....which exposed us......

I dont think that having a "out in 2 seconds" offense is the answer......we need to biuld our line so that we can make deeper vertical throws as well....way too much speed on this offense to NOT do that.

  3. Right. He will be 27 when the season starts, actually next month, and hasn't had quite as many carries as I though.

He is right at that point where RBs start to trend down.

    http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1271412-why-and-when-do-nfl-running-backs-start-to-decline

You have to take running style into affect when looking at McCoy

Very Thurman THomas like in his career.....he probably has at least 3 years of high production left in him

  4. Why should Fred (as a competitor) be helping his teamates with their games?

The only thing he can show these players is how to prepare as you age as a player.....maybe some of those younger guys just can handle that?

I think we will see a different side of Fred Jackson this year though.....he comes into this season as a unquestioned backup as they brought in a top 5 NFL running back.....so maybe the mentorship role will be more in affect.

  5. Then when is the ball strapped and not EJ? Unless they bolted the strap to EJ's spine. I've never seen a resistance test where they do it to the ball and tell the player to run.

Also, noticed that the trainer has a "Work Hard" tattoo on his right bicep. Pretty high res pic when you open it.

    OK now I feel foolish.....

I didnt even realize that the strap was attached to the ball....geesh

  6. Meh.

Worth some talk, but i dont feel him anymore. He has a wingspan, he is smart but he just has not created much pressure. But with Rex he might turn his game up a notch.

Sure lets throw Manny in there too. thing is he can cover a bit too more than Mario and Hughes anyways ; )

    Thanks John !

I just remember him under Pettine.....which should be a similar scheme to Rex.....

    He was productive

  7. "All this is hard to take as a long time Niners fan……..on a positive note at least we got rid of Greg Roman, the worst OC in history…..Rex Ryan will love him…he runs straight up the middle every play"

This was from one of the commenters.

I talked about Roman with my good friend who is a 9ers fan. He wasn't happy with him this past year but I think things were starting to fall apart in SF and nothing was going right. All the injuries and tension with the front office. I'm still happy with the Roman hire.

I wonder if that fan was happy with him when they were having winning records, playoff runs, and chances to win championships

  8. Flutie looked good until they started designing defense to stop him - keep him in the pocket, don't pass rush hard just push the pocket and keep your hands up, did they bring the secondary up too because he had loss arm strength? that part I'm unsure of.

I thought that was the part that did him in...he was older and lack of arm strength....

I hear TT throws a really nice deep ball

  9. OK, not trying to hate here, I don't know if he can play the way Wilson does but, the little guys IE Flute, Wilson, Tarkington, don't seem to get hurt as much as the taller awkward QB's.

Because there are more of the taller awkward guys playing in the NFL.....they are able to see over the 6'7 offensive line better......

Now....before you go telling me that they see through the "gaps" of the offensive line......I am just saying that is the stereotype

I still maintain that if Doug Flutie would have come down from the CFL when he was younger he would have a nice long NFL career

  10.

We'll see. I do hope Roman and Rex are not intending to get all cutsy swapping QB in and out with him wildcat-style.

His track record in college was that his completion percentage and passing yardage went up each year.

His one game, EJ's 14 games, and Matt Cassel lifetime are all within spitting distance of each other for completion percentage. (58.6, 58.6 ,59).

Right now I would have to say that's the "?" for both EJ and TT, can they stand in the pocket and make the throws accurately?

What I want to know is if Taylor trusts what he throws and actually releases the ball.......this is what seems to be the only (but major) hangup for EJ so far.

It is said that TT throws a really nice long ball......but does how does he do on short to intermediate stuff? Does his lack of height limit him?

  11. Complete game. 2009 Virginia Tech – Nebraska - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K3TBYKjSbU The Virginia Tech Hokies and QB Tyrod Taylor pull out an improbable 16-15 win with a late TD score against Ndamukong Suh and Nebraska.

Not a huge endorsement for TT but it was 2009. Last drive down 5 with a minute and a half and no time outs. Came away with win. Budding superstar. Now fast forward 6 years and . . . . story yet to be written.

    linky no worky

  12. Ya, Russell Wilson always on the sidelines.

Herb...I am sure that Roman is getting visions of Russel WIlson when he looks at Taylor because they have similar skill set....

I am just talking about overall.....Cam.....hurt.....Dog Killer....always hurt.....Thad Lewis tryed to be a runner and almost got his body broke doing it.

You can have all the skill in the world.....but if your not on the field it wont matter...I would like to see a QB that the THREAT of him taking off actually slows down a pass rush because they are trying to contain him......and then having the ability to make those throws from the pocket for taking that approach on defense.

  13. The coaching sucked, but it's also very possible that he is one of those players that needs to develop before being a productive NFL player. A lot of times teams will draft players not for the year they are drafted, but for a couple years down the road.

I remember an interview with Kujo right after he was drafted on TV where he looked genuinely pissed that he was not a 1st round selection.

I was SO SURE that he was going to come into last season with a chip on his shoulder.......then.....last season happened for him.

  14. I'm with you JfH, it would absolutely be a great thing if Kujo becomes a solid contributor, if not starter, for this team. I'm excited to see if he can take this positive momentum while in shorts and carry it into live action with pads in August.

I could be totally off base on this.....but when the pads go on is when a guy like Kujo should actually shine (even more so then a guy like Henderson.....who is much more of an athlete)

Kujo's strength should really be evident at that time.....as should Cordy Glenn's for that matter

Before last season I had great visions of a Glenn LT/Kujo RT offensive line blowing teams off the ball.......it could still happen.

  15. He followed that up with 4 ints against the Pats. That's who he is and why no team is happy starting him. Great backup though.

And I'll go with the guy who was drafted higher looking better. You clearly do have an agenda because you seem to bashEJ in every post.

I want EJ to start because I think he has the best NFL qb skill set. I worry about Taylor because he seems like a less version of Vick. We'll see.

First.....get over yourself and go back and look at my previous posts before you make a assumption about me....you wont look so foolish if you do that.......you will see that I have firmly been in the EJ Manuel camp.....

Second......qbs have bad games.......and a qb who is not a "franchise qb" is going to have more of them

    Christ....sometimes

  16. So Tyrod throws at buckets and EJ/Cassel throw at football players? :P

If that bucket had hands that would totally have been a catch!

Like I said in another thread, the team is better off if the starter is either Taylor or Manuel and whichever it is has succes. Nothing against Cassel, but if he starts that means back to square one next off season.

Chris I think no matter what happens that might be a given.....

I FIRMLY believe our 1st rounder (even if we have to trade up) goes to a QB this next draft.......unless one of these guys just plays so well that it no longer makes sense to do it.
