  1. I just think it is interesting how much Sammy Watkins is disregarded.....its actually a lol moment

    - Getting Shady was huge........no doubt

    - Percy Harvin is dangerous and has to be accounted for

    - The bills finally have a good TE

    - Also of note......Robert Woods is no slouch

But the dismissal of Sammy Watkins who has a really good chance to be the best buffalo bill wide receiver EVER and the things he can do is something I bet is the subject of a lot of filmwork sessions of DC's. Its not as simple as "just roll coverage Sammy's way and lets rush the passer"......teams WERE rolling coverage Sammy's way last year and Sammy......playing with injuries all year was STILL GETTING OPEN

A rookie who is going to get even better in his second year......THAT is what defenses really need to be worried about

  2. Dan Patrick one of the few media types I respect said. The Sabres tanked on purpose, fans had to pay and watch that. That is just not right i have little respect for teams that do that. i am paraphrasing but again just What have they won? Nothing. A projected player that has huge upside. And, A couple of other good moves.

As for the Bills do you think percy harvin and incognito are the signings that put the bills deep into the playoffs? Just an example. But very doubtful. i am excited about this season and have high hopes anything less that 11-5 and at least a single playoff win and the season will be a disaapointment. Wonder what the odds of that happening are?? With no QB?

The Sabres well even if the draft pans out as expected, where do you think they are at the end of next season? Well better I hope? I was lucky to sell our seasons that I actually split anyways. for face value the people that bought them called and said they regretted it. No Kidding. What were you expecting? it was so bad. Money should have been refunded. Thats not NHL hockey. Some would call it a form of cheating. But they got their guy.

It's getting old. personally, I hope it is over for both teams. i suspect big things now. No more excuses. i am sick of the long flights and expenses year after year. but I would love to see Brady in game 2 and not beating some second string chump. I pay huge for these games like others I'm sure. i was jacked when we beat the Vikes last year in a game where the team sucked for arounf 55 minutes.

Looking for these things like a game 2 suspension by a great QB is not something the Kelly teams would even consider as a advantage. here fans some of which have never seen the team in the playoffs are jacked that we may beat them because of a crap QB. Myself lets beat em at full strength. it tastes better. IMO.

THis is one of the things that just makes you look foolish......fans talk about Brady suspension because that is what fans do........the bills TEAM is probably not looking at it that way at atl what you probably have is a bills defense that is not at all happy Brady misses that first bills game because they WANT TO BEAT BRADY.....and prove their own greatness.

Fans can say what they want (and proof of that is you) the only thing that matters is the team itself.

And the team......both teams actually......are lookin pretty damn good

  3. So, So, True. LOL

Buffalo fans suck yea that's the problem. The homers hoist the beers as the Bills and Sabres win paper off season trophies yet again. BFD. Sorry, there a long effin way to go with BIG pieces missing. But at least there is a owner where money is no object. That's cool but he is not a player just a guy that has boatloads of cash. And he has misfired in the management roles on The Sabres once already. But he tries so thats is great.

Are these times ro be hopeful? Yes. read up on the 64-65 Bills when the city had an actual reaon to celebrate they were the champs. Not offseason paper champs.

    Flame away tin man.

You must be a blast at parties......like the guy everyone hopes will go home so the real party can begin.

    Just sayin

  4. We have to be better than these guys. I don't need to link anything, youtube is full of 1985 Bears highlights. Google is your friend. I have more than enough to prove the 1985 Bears are the best, so don't bother, and, that's not what this thread is about.

    But....

IF we are going to use the 1985 Bears D as a measuring tool, we have to do it with a few caveats and nuances. First, the rules have changed. You can see that in the every youtube you watch, as the Bears are headshotting everybody on the field, especially the QB(Joe Ferguson playing for Lions...looks dead). It's not just headshots, another reason the Bears are the best is: they created the need for rule changes to help the O, all over the field, especially in the secondary. The Bears got away with what would be instant penalties now, yes, but, they also are the reason those penalties were created.

There are lots of things to consider, but, this thread is about swinging for the fences, and fun. So, let's look at the stats we need to be in the ballpark of the 1985 Bears:

    Record: 15-1

    Points Allowed: 198

    Yds/G: 258.4

    Sacks: 64

    INTs: 34

    Yds/G Opp. Rushing: 82.4

    Last year for us:

    Record: 9-7

    Points Allowed: 289(#1 = SEA, 254)

    Yds/G: 312.2(#1 = SEA, 267.1)

    Sacks: 54(#1)

    INTs: 19(#1 = SF, 23)

    Yds/G Opp. Rushing: 106.4 (#1 = DET, 69.3)

As you can see, we have a ways to go(and so does SEA) to even be in range of the 1985 Bears stats. However, given the rule changes, it might make sense for us to look at adopting some sort of adjustments.

In closing, there is one stat from last year that = the 1985 Bears! 16 Passing TDs allowed on the season. As I have said many, many times, Defense always starts at the back, not the front.

The rules have changed a LOT since that bears team.......defenses dont get away with the things they got away with in that era.....

Gonna be tough to beat those stats in todays climate

  5.

Next year really does have the potential to be a very good QB draft. There are as many as 9 guys that--with solid 2015 campaigns--could end up as 1st or 2nd round picks:

    Hackenberg

    C. Jones

    Cook

    Kessler

    Goff

    Hogan

    Boykin

    Prescott

    Brissett

and I am perfectly ok with packaging picks to move up from where ever we pick in the 1st round to take that QB AND sit him for a year if need be.

The team is in a good situation to do that.......especially if one of these QBs shows the ability to caretake the offense.

  6. Last year the team had the #4 defense, and still couldn't stop Tom Brady...or even stop rookie QB Derek Carr on a scrub team... in a game with a playoff berth on the line.

Its time to stop the forever, on going continuous defensive building and focus on finding a franchise QB! and then protecting him properly! JMO. Mega millions for a DE, DE, DT and a fifty cent QB...

Let me know where the Franchise QB tree is so we can go pick one....I will hold the ladder for you.......

  7. And Marrone did that quite a bit in NO as the OC. Of course he also went to a bowl game with Cuse. So the old coaches also understood getting to the playoffs which not for a crap game against Oakland and Texans might have happened.

Not sure if this is a serious post

If it is...just take a step back and think about what you are saying.....and see if you dont understand why it is so wrong

  8. One thing that really stuck out to me when Kujo was giving an interview was talking about his "balance" and working on that in the OL bootcamp this summer (and is going back to it till training camp starts)

To me that was a huge issue with Kujo last year......DL would just work him in camp by going after his inability to maintain his balance laterally...........Kujo's strength was NEVER an issue from what I could see.....but he has to be able to slide out and keep DE's from taking an outside rush to the QB...then he needs to be able to keep his balance when they fake the outside rush then go inside (and hopefully now a OG will be good enough there to be able to help him out with that assignment)

The OG play last year was so bad with Pears......I feel like we just dont have an honest evaluation of kujo AND Seantrel

  9. I'm not saying that's wrong if you see the right qb and have the picks to make the move.... But ultimately if we face the alternative of paying a vet vs keeping another guy; it's a whole lot easier to find a good corner and a whole lot easier to hide a so-so corner than it is to continue the orton/cassell/whoever era. Our identity would quickly become winning instead of defense if we found a pro bowl qb, even at the expense of some talent elsewhere

    Broken record I know but.....

That is why I have always said it is in the best interests of this team for EJ to become a viable at least average starting QB.......it would give us a bridge to draft a QB high next year but not start him........bring him along.......and then start him the following year.

  10. Im not sure I agree. If it cost us bradham and Gilmore I like our odds of drafting a lb and cb over hitting on qb.... And that's assuming they don't get creative with structures and manage them all. You seem to think that the Broncos and saints and other teams with qbs don't have other big names scattered around the roster. Brees has two 10m+ defensive ends a true #1 corner and Byrd across the ball from him

This is the problem I have with all of this........

Nigel Bradham is a young up and coming stud of linebacker monster hitter and a big part of this defense (he also will not probably command a ridiculous contract

Gilmore is the closest thing we have to a lockdown corner......McKelvin is probably going to get sent packing with Darby sliding into that spot.......Rex needs his lock down corners to make his defense work

Our calling card is our defense......severely weakening that side of the ball in order to pay a franchise QB is a huge gamble for this team and its defensive minded coach.

It is just my opinion.....but I feel that this team is so stocked with talent as it is right now what we should do is package a healthy dose of picks and move up in this next draft for a QB........that way we keep our hard earned talent on the team and have a rookie QB contract on the team for some years.........

    OC, this is crazy!

I'm not exactly a wus who has spent his life in a protective cocoon (well, I am a middle-aged wus now!). I've led soldiers into combat, hung out in bad neighborhoods on 3 different continents, and have broken up more than my share of drunken bar room scuffles in my time. But I've never been in a fist-fight since my freshman year of college because the bandit is right. Fights are avoidable.

    Agreed

Some of us have been in harms way from much more then a person to person fight (I personally have been shot at and been very close to explosives meant to take my life in foreign countries and compared to that sign me up for the simple drunkin brawl.

But fist to fist confrontations for me have been few and far between.......and most of them I could have easily walked away from but chose to dive in head first because they were usually defending someone else. The first ones I have ever had were just like that.

When stationed at Norton Air Force base a couple of Camp Pendleton Marines had come down to see their girlfriends (one of them being a friend of mine from my squadron....and we lived in co ed dorms on base) a group of Air Force drunken morons decided they didnt like it and proceeded to beat the crap out of them and try to throw them off the emergency sidestairs on the 3rd floor. My female friend was about to lose her mind and I arrived right about the time she got struck in the face trying to save her boyfriend (rule number one with me......hitting a women in front of me will cause me to see red in a heartbeat).......me and my two large friends.......put an end to this after a pretty good slobberknocker on the 3rd floor of this dormatory.......security police arrived late as usual as they had been passified by the time they got there.

Many years later I was at a family reunion with my wife (my wife is hispanic.....and her side of the family has a lot of members in and associated to biker gangs. Now.....I consider myself to be a fairly peaceful guy.....and to be honest I get along great with these guys. But when the drinking starts it never fails somebody who should just be enjoying themselves and having a good time HAS to start talking crap to someone they shouldnt who was just minding THEIR own business and having a good time.......next thing you know we multiple biker gangs in the wrong place at the wrong time and someone instigating something they were def not going to be able to finish.....next thing you know my wifes sister is in the wrong place at the wrong time and gets struck........here I am playing hero ball.....not to fight the world but mostly just to pull her out of the uglyless to safety........and all hell breaks lose. Now.....the one thing i have found interesting over my life......when I go into protective mode it is amazing how much help I actually get from people fighting rather then seeing me as a opponent and actually HELP me. I nearly get shanked because I am covering up my sister and dragging her out.......I see a blade flash behind me and immedately put them down with a well placed kick.......and 2 of their own start beating the crap out of their own bike gang member........

I personally enjoy peace.....nobody ever really wins a fight.
