Tyler Dunne Asks: Was the Watkins Trade Worth It?
Tipster19 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He has a 5 year contract if Buffalo wants to rightfully exercise the 5th year of the contract. If only 57%, or whatever that stat is, of 1st rid picks hitting then using two 1st rd picks to insure that we get a bonafide star makes it a bit more palatable for me. Of course one cannot ignore that we also threw in a 4 th rder but I'll chalk that up to being Buffalo just being, well, just Buffalo being Buffalo. When it's all said and done I'm very happy that we made the trade now, especially that Sammy is from Fort Myers (239 baby!) and I just got done living there for the last 21+ years, it only made it sweeter. -
This is a very real possibility. No reason to think that the Patriots won't win the division this year. In the last couple/few years the Bills have owned the Dolpins but Mario had some big games against them but now he plays for them. The Jets are a much better team without Rex IMO and if they retain Fitzpatrick they will have a potent offense with a formidable defense. The Bills on the other hand have some great defensive players but if they don't drastically improve we'll have to rely on an offense that is questioned. Will Rex be the fall guy? Being the HC makes it a reasonable assumption that he should and would be. What about Whaley? How much will he have to answer for? The franchise, does it get set back further than it has been in the last decade or so? In the last 24+ months I feel that this franchise made a big time push to advance, and while it did improve it only netted a 9-7 and 8-8 record to show for it. Now this off season we have been hamstrung with our contracts and really only have the draft to rely on to improve this roster. During that time frame we saw what we hoped was going to be our franchise QB (EJ) not only fumble his was out of the position but more than likely even out of being a reliable back up. We also witnessed our HC, who was going to lead us to the promised land, abruptly quit and desert us to become an asst coach for all franchises the Jacksonville Jaguars! How absurd is that??! It gets better, they replace him with a loudmouth HC who was ran out of his last job not only because of his losing record but also because of his lack of discipline and organizational skills. Wait, it gets better, not only did we hire him but just for good measure we made sure that we doubled up and hired his twin brother as well. Going into last season I was very hopeful and optimistic, going into this season I am just, well, I am just very scared. Go Bills??!

He's being compared to Muhammad Wilkerson. I'd be all for a player like him if the comparison is somewhat accurate. http://www.buffalorumblings.com/2016/3/24/11300856/report-louisiana-tech-dl-vernon-butler-to-visit-buffalo-bills?utm_campaign=buffalorumblings&utm_content=chorus&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter

My summary for the 2016 Bills' additions/subtraction.

Your points are well taken. I titled it then wrote the post, should have been more accurate in the title. Thanks. -
I expect LB to be our 1st pick in this year's draft.
Tipster19 replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'd like to see him put on a little more weight but I'm impressed with some of the intangibles that Georgia's LB Leonard Floyd brings to the table. -
This is just what I like to see happen, not saying it will. Regardless of the players' names it's their abilities and what they could bring to the table for us that I'm focusing on. If you don't agree, which I'm sure that there will be plenty that won't, then feel free to replace any player that I suggest with one of your own preferences and explain why. I am trying to keep it reasonable salary cap wise but as many of you know that while we are cash and contract strapped there is ways that front offices are able to finagle these such obstacles. First off I have mentioned in a previous post that I think that Cleveland could once again make a good trade partner for us while they are rebuilding their roster/franchise again. I'd like to see us trade off EJ Manuel and a low draft pick (6th rder?) For Josh McCown and WR Brian Hartline. We currently don't have a veteran presence at the QB position and McCown has proven to be a good teammate who is very willing to mentor young QBs. EJ on the otherhand hasn't proven, or should I say has proven, that he is not our future or back up QB. I am still scarred by that Jacksonville game. In addition I fully expect the Bills to draft a QB fairly early in this year's draft. While I like the small sample size that I have seen of Tyrod's abilities I'm still not comfortable or confident in him standing upright throughout the year. Bottom line McCown brings leadership, experience and insurance, the same cannot be said about EJ. I suggest Hartline for some of those very reasons that I stated about McCown. I feel that he is at a great age and point of his career to more than adequately man the #2 WR position. I feel that Woods is better suited for the slot and be what some felt what Hogan would be able to do for us this year. I also would like to see us bring back Harvin but even if we do it's hard to rely on him. I will also readily admit that we may already have solutions on our roster with the likes of Salas, Hankerson, Boykin and Lewis but I don't know this. Staying with the offense, because I feel that the draft will be more geared to addressing our defensive needs, adding/upgrading the TE position is something that would pay big dividends in a very quiet way. OC Greg Roman's offense is extensive but also is said to be dependent on the TEs. While improving our WRs is important so is the TEs, let's not take this lightly. TE Vernon Davis, agree with this or not, fills the requirements immensely for many obvious reasons. Not only has he actually has played for Roman and his scheme but had more than moderate success with it. He is also at the point of his career where he should be a very inexpensive contract that would be incentive laden. He has much to prove with very limited time and opportunity to do it. I admit that while either may not want each other, Roman and Davis, but striving for success can and will alter people's persceptions and criteria. Last but not least would be another addition to the OL. In this case it is percieved that the right side of our line could stand upgrading. In this scenario I think that the best bang for the buck would be FA OL Geoff Schwartz could fill this bill. He is versatile at both G and T position and should also come in on a very reasonable contract with incentive tiers. Guard Jahri Evans would be my second suggestion but he is older and should be more expensive than Schwartz. On the defensive side of the ball a situational pass rusher would be in order and who better than Dwight Freeney? He is much like Vernon Davis in that he is not a full time player at this point in his career and should be affordable. Collegiately he played regionally and here's hoping that that would be attractive to him. I would like to suggest a LB as well but there's not one that comes to mind so if anyone has any suggestions it would be much appreciated. No matter what here's to the 2016 season and hopefully we are more successful than last year. Go Bills!

I can't remember when we had this many of ou players signed with division rivals in the same year. On top of that this year's rival defenses are projected to be even more stout than years past. The last thing that we needed was for our players to be going to our division rivals and shedding light on our strategies. Will our ground and pound offense still be effective? I can understand now why it was so important for us to retain our OL. Having Henderson return healthy will be a major plus, hopefully he can. Can Miller take the next step in his second year or should the Bills bring in competition to solidify the RG position? I'd like to see the Bills bring OL Geoff Schwartz for a look see, his versatility is appealing, he can play RG and RT and would be a good fit for what the Bills do and need. He hasn't stayed healthy the last couple of years but looks good to go and shouldn't be too expensive. He's the kind of FA that the Bills should be looking for and would be affordable. RG Jahri Evans might be another option as well, as we all already know, but he's older, more expensive and is more of just being a Guard. He has also proven that he is not as flexible on taking less money.

I like your thought process. When I started this thread this was the kind of input I was hoping to get. I think that Hunter has a lot to offer but when I looked him up I was disappointed in some of the observations made on him. Here's a bit from rotoworld that has me wondering if Hunter really woyld be a good addition. What I like about Hartline is that from all accounts that I can tell from is nothing but up arrows. Here's what I was referring to about Hunter. http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/8415/justin-hunter

There's multiple reasons why I didn't suggest Gordon. First the cost for him I'm not interested in. Secondly although it looks like he'll be reinstated Gordon is currently suspendedand imo he has too many strikes against him. We already have that idiot Greg Little on our roster and these 2 are a bad pairing. Iircc this is Cleveland's version of our own Marcel Dareus and Jerry Hughes with the drag racing. Lil Donte recently saw Gordon and said that his weight ballooned drastically but since then he lost a lot of it, just strikes me as someone who is not in football shape. When I suggested Hartline a lot had to do with the cost factor. His contract is very reasonable for salary cap purposes and I would hope that a 6th rd pick or a swapping of picks could get this done.

They lost a lot of players themselves and are full blown rebuilding their team. I was thinking that if the price was reasonable that WR Brian Hartline would make a good compliment for Sammy. He has had some big games in the past and is a seasoned veteran. I'm not confidant in our WR corp after Sammy and I would hate to see the Bills use a 1st rd pick on a WR and don't think that there would be a starting WR as a rookie in the rds after the 1st. I'd like to see this position solidified a bit more either in free agency or if possible by a trade.

Pats wheeling and dealing, trade for Martellus Bennet
Tipster19 replied to FireChan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Patriots keep on reloading while we sit here cash strapped. It is what it is. The only real shot that we got is to have a very successful draft. What the Bills have to do, no matter how they do it, is make our front seven on defense very formidable. Our back 4 is more than adequate so make sure that Brady doesn't have time to sit there and pick us apart. We need LBers that can cover these quick outs and have our DL get to him within 2 seconds. If they can't get to him then at least have good pressure on him and have our hands up so maybe we can get some tipped passes for turnovers. Nothing would be worse than to see our own Hogan stick us in the short game. Nothing ingenius about this plan and I realize that it's easier said than done but it's our best shot at holding that offense down to reasonable points. On offense we need to control the clock with our good ground game with some splashes of shots down the field. Until we can at least split our season games with them we'll never make it to the play-offs. We need better LBers, if not then we're sunk. -
Looks like the circus is in full swing. All we need now is a dancing monkey with a organ grinder. Have I mentioned lately how much I loathed the Ryans?! This goes all the way up their family tree to their ballooned belly father. Normally I'd end a response with ago Bills! but in this case I think that it's more appropriate with Go Ryans! Go far, far away!

Seeing how their hands are tied pretty good salary cap wise maybe they should better utilize some of their second tier players. I have been reading a bit on some back up players that are on the roster and DT T.J. Barnes stood out to me. Switching him to the offensive side of the ball and RG could be a good fit. He has good athleticism, and of course great size, that could pay dividends as a pulling G. Another player of interest to me is S Jonathan Dowling. Add weight to him and he could possibly be that edge rushing LB that the Bills are looking for. In any event I find him intriguing, under Ed Reed's tutelage Dowling could be one of the biggest surprises on this team. Maturity issues are the concerns with him but people do change and grow up and hopefully that is the case with him. I've been pretty down in the lately watching us lose players and not adding much in free agency but looking deeper into some of our current players has given me a bit more optimism. With a good draft, and if our salary cap can allow it, add a couple of inexpensive depth players and we could be in a much better shape than what meets the eye.

I look around and see nothing but devastation! I see that the Patriots pilfered Hogan off of us. Them bastards! I feel like Rip Van Winkle, I took a long nap and all kinds of $h!t changed! I guess that this kind of stuff happens when you're late to the party. (Haha, I'm just trying to lighten the mood around here) Go Bills!

Looking over the roster the LB position is our most glaring need. Although DE is also a need, especially after this free agency, this year's draft is suppose to be deep at this position. I'm not suggesting on who we should draft because I don't know enough about the college prospects so I would like to see others who know more about this to weigh in on who would be the best prospects at the #19 pick. One last thing. I noticed that Dwight Freeney is looking to play 1 more season before he calls it quits. I would think that he may have to wait a bit before some teams make a serious run at him. I couldn't imagine him demanding big dollars at this stage of his career. Any thoughts on him being a valid option for us this year? With us needing a speed rusher and Freeney being a situational edge rusher I would think that he could be an ideal fit for us, especially that he's a Syracuse graduate and Jerry Hughes being a former teammate, this could be a very fluid transition for all involved. Go Bills!

The more that I think about it the more that it makes sense that the Bills add Davis to the roster. Davis is in the twilight of his career and has virtually has done nothing since he joined the Broncos. Davis under Greg Roman has experienced some great success and before time runs out Davis may want to have one last chance at being productive offensively. The Bills should be more than interested in Davis, especially since Clay had some injury concerns this year.

BOLD predictions for 2016 Bills Offseason
Tipster19 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I like that Eric Weddle idea, I was thinking along those lines myself a few weeks back. Here's some additions that I would like to see that I think could be possible. TE Vernon Davis has done nothing in Denver so far and is nearing the end of his career. The Greg Roman connection could pay off or could just as easily work against us, not sure what that relationship is like. I think keeping an eye on the Alshon Jeffrey situation could be interesting as well. Jeffrey is a UFA, had a terrible year stat and healthwise and if the Bears can't lock him up long term then tagging him might be a choice that could be difficult for them, that would mean 10M+ for 1 year on a player that has some questions about staying healthy. QB, in some capacity, should be a priority imo, either a valid back up or one to groom for the future. I commend TT but staying healthy should always be a concern for the Bills. Sadly I'm ready to resign to the notion that EJ just isn't the guy that I hoped that he would be for the Bills. That Jacksonville game permanently scarred me. Could Michael Vick be a valid back up for us? I don't know, I'll leave that up to the higher ups to figure out. OL, RT in particular, needs to be addressed if we want to stay at the top of the league in rushing. I'd like to hear more on the possibilities of fulfilling this position. It appears that John Miller is set at RG but it would be a bit more comforting to see him stay a little more healthy this upcoming year. Let's not forget Cyril Richardson, I think that the coach(s) like him and has some plans on him being in a rotation, or at the worse case scenario the first back up behind both G positions. It seems that he has the right demeanor that they are looking for, tough, physical and downright nasty. I'm expecting this draft being heavily geared towards our defense, DL, LBs and the Secondary all needing a major infusion of new blood of players that fit more of Ryan's scheme. Good bye Mario, McKelvin and I'm starting to wonder what the coaches consensus is on Bradham. Seeing that Ryan is firmly entrenched for at this year these are some of the changes that I fully expect to see but it's disappointing hearing this year Preston Brown questioning the defensive philosophy, especially that he was counted on heavily and was given a tremendous amount of responsibility. I'd like and hope that Hogan makes the roster this year but he's firmly on the bubble as far as I'm concerned. I wouldn't hold my breath over Harvin either, I believe that he'll be holding the door Mario when they both leave and that Olympian boy Goodwin, kiss him good bye and rightfully so, that's a luxury that this roster can't afford nor a commodity that we can wait for to pan out anymore. This brings me to Woods. Can he be our slot guy? I don't know but there's nothing from this coaching staff this year that leads me to belive that they value him highly. I believe Whaley when he says that the Bills won't be big players in FA and that they are more concerned with signing their own and that is the right thing to do. Great teams are built through the draft. We are long overdue in keeping our own players that we drafted, we finally got some good players of our own. Now it's time to add to this mix with another successful draft like we had last year. Nothing bold, nothing sexy about any of this, just downright solid philosophy that we need to adhere to so that we can finally get this franchise to the next level. -
Whew! I'm glad to see the Seahawks lose!

Larry Fitzgerald Total Class Act...
Tipster19 replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't comment on too many posts but Larry is worth weighing in on. Funny thing is I actually called up a younger friend of mine, I'm old and he's currently in the CFL, lol, after last night's halftime just to talk about #11. My buddy played college ball at Arizona and has worked out with Fitzgerald in the past. While we were talking he once again confirmed that all Fitzgerald wants to do is practice, he catches about a 1,000 balls a day! I called him because I just wanted to tell that nobody catches like Larry, he always just use his hands. The only other ones that I can remember doing that is HOFer Tony Gonzalez and sometimes our very own Sammy Watkins and I said that to my friend. #11 is a HOFer on and off the field. It's disturbing sometimes how people can be slandered and portrayed in and by the media, it's really not right. I love Larry Fitzgerald, always have always will, he's a fine human being and I respect him immensely. It will be a sad day when he retires because there's not too many like him, enjoy him while he can. I'm pulling for the Cardinals to go all the way, mostly because of #11 and even Arians, I love his mentality and the way he coaches, I wish the Bills would of gotten him. With that being said I'm not too crazy about Palmer. -
After that Jacksonville game I can't defend or pull for EJ anymore. Tebow was under Rex before, I didn't think that he even got a chance over there. I'd rather have Tebow than EJ at this point and would be wanting the Bills to draft a QB that they could develope over the next couple/few years.

Hahaha, I don't miss the guy. 3 picks in the 4th quarter with the game and play-offs on the line, with1 being in the endzone. How many times have we seen that from this guy??!
