Early Reports From Today's Rookie Camp
scribo replied to scribo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
For those of you on Facebook....here is a sneak preview of video from today's camp: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Orchard-Park...0096&ref=mf It looks like you have to follow the Bills on Facebook or Twitter to know about this. Or be on TBD. Nice shot of Nelson (#89) at the end. -
Fine. TO is a Bill. Peters isn't.
-
Really? The guest star is walking down a street in broad daylight when he is held up at knife point.

Chris Brown said Shawn Nelson was impressive in his first day, catching everything thrown his way. http://blogs.buffalobills.com/2009/05/01/n...d-on-first-day/ Mark Gaughan said Eric Wood was at right guard and Andy Levitre at left guard. He said Nelson looked like he needed to put on some weight but doesn't think that will be a big deal. He also said Maybin looked very tall, bigger than Robert Mathis. He said Joel Bell is massive. QB Daniel Polk from Midwestern State is really fast. FB Travis McCall is strictly a blocker tight end-Hback-fullback. http://www.buffalonews.com/452/story/657963.html

Owens, O-line on the agenda at Booster Club meeting

Well, it certainly appears there was a ton of news value at last night's meeting. If any of the news papers mention anything from this, they better give you due credit. -

I still say Tim. Yeah, his posting here gives him a head-start, in my book. But he is also more entertaining and he provides good insight not just on our team but also on our key rivals. -
To preface, I have no idea. That said, it would behoove said linemen if they could get to a point where they could know what one another is thinking simply by looking at them. I would presume o-linemen see many different defensive fronts and packages over the course of a season. To really "gel," I think they would need to at least have a good idea of how one another are going to react to different techniques, strategies and abilities before they could approach flawless execution as a unit. What does that mean? Like I said, I have no idea.

I think adding Henderson would give us a top-10 defense instantly.

Tim, by a mile. And this is from a person who ardently supports local newspapers, especially dailies. But Tim has taken coverage to a new level, directly involving his readers. -
I've met Gerald Washington. He's my pick for the best surprise here.

He earned that titled from me when he took young players under his wing, had McKelvin stay at his house, had the defensive backs over to his house regularly, and guaranteed a playoff berth. He is the best leader on the team, hands down. Yes, he had a big problem recently, and he may not have handled it the best possible way. But it seems he was doing what he thought was best for his family at the moment, and I respect that, so I am giving him a pass right now. I also loved when he tackled the Raiders' Higgins in the endzone last year. http://www.stadiumwall.com/index.php?showtopic=72438 I love how involved he is willing to get with the fans. He is constantly Tweeting and posting stuff on Facebook, even inviting fans to come out with him. It might be borderline crazy, but it is refreshing. He played through injuries last year, even when the docs said he shouldn't, just to send a message to the rest of the team. I think he genuinely has the team's best interests in mind all the time. He is willing to do what it takes to be successful, to help his teammates be successful and help the team win. That's why.

Owens, O-line on the agenda at Booster Club meeting

You are correct. The team pumps up players all the time. I still think he is mindful of what words he uses. I think pumping up the players is strategic, as is his vagueness. What I watch for is when he breaks from the chorus of "does a terrific job for us" and gets more specific, that's when you know he is really saying something. I too would like to see Harris take the job, but Bowen deserves a shot. Not necessarily a starting shot, but a shot to prove himself in camp and the preseason games. -

I agree; the verbiage he chose does not say Ellison is our starter. It says, he is a backup and did a great job as such. And I'm keeping in mind DJ is a very smart guy and doesn't just throw his words around. I think they are counting on Bowen to start. They were very high on him last year before the injury. But that seems pretty stupid. -

What an outstanding article, Lori. I do believe you just scooped the rest of the sports world. Very interesting to hear the bit about the TO signing, the team's two years of scouting Hangartner, and especially the Peters situation. I know we're hearing just one side, but it seems Peters simply didn't want to play in Buffalo anymore. Also, whoever that astute fan is, great job pinning the coach down on the o-line situation. Sounds like a Walker, Wood, Hangartner, Levitre, Butler line is the plan. Really, most of the big questions discussed here on the Wall were answered. Thanks for all the time you put into this and everything else you put together for us, Lori! -
I really wanted Ngata that year. But Donte is my favorite Bill now. And to be fair, I really wanted Robert Gallery two years earlier, and now I am very glad the Bills didn't take that tub.
-
Oh, and if I read the article correctly, it appears the Bills intend to do this -- it's not just an idea they are kicking around, according to Tim's source. That said, Bellychick won't be that surprised as I would presume he reads Tim's blog, and Trent and company will need to practice this in the preseason games.

I'm in love with the idea of the Bills running a no-huddle offense, even if it is the old Bengals' version rather than a new generation of the K-Gun, which I think would now need to be called the S-Gun any way. I think having an majorly remodeled offensive lineup would actually make this transition easier as everyone would be learning together at the same time. This is about the best way I can think of to capitalize on the intelligence which has seemed to be such a large part of of the team's player selection. It is important to note the major risk of running this type of offense is that if you get stopped, you quickly wear your own defense out and can badly lose the time of possession battle. Big guys like Stroud probably won't be a fan of this idea. Our d-line will have to be in tip-top cardiovascular shape Thanks, OC. That's great. I was really surprised to see the notes on the huddle in there. The "don't lean on other men" and "the QB is the only person talking in the huddle" sounds exactly like what I had to tell the 9-year-olds I coached last year.

The only time they attempted to show the city, they portrayed the streets as all run by gangs.

I wonder why the Bills, or some other NFL team, hasn't hired Sully. I mean, he obviously is a better talent evaluator than the entire Bills' staff.

Has anyone heard what Ralph thought of his draft?
scribo replied to Buffaloed in Pa's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What the hell do you mean no names? You said it was Mr. Wilson. If it is true, whoever told you or your source violated the very essence of the HIPPA laws. While you might believe you're accurate, your story has to be false. Medical professionals understand leaking any info like this would certainly ruin their careers. -
Yes, I am sure that is what he thought.
-
Well, those blocking skills left our offense one-dimensional and didn't beat anyone in our division. I re-watched Nelson's Senior Bowl week, and he looks like he realizes he needs to become more of a willing blocker to make it big in the NFL. I hope he can improve his blocking while also learning his routes, etc.
-
The great thing about having a legit receiving threat at TE now is that it completely forces the defense to play our offense fairly. With Evans, Owens, Nelson and at least one running back who can catch out of the backfield all on the field on any given play, the defense always has to respect the pass. With a high-quality running backs and bruisers on the interior line, the defense always has to respect the run. The personnel MIGHT just be in place to finally have a dangerously balanced offense with true play-makers to take advantage any time a defense leans too far one way. Of course, there are at least three reasons this could all be for nothing: 1. One or more of said play-makers turn out to be lack-luster or miss playing time. 2. Turk cannot figure out how to call a balanced game, capitalizing on trends, mismatches and over-compensating defenses. 3. Trent isn't able (or allowed) to make solid reads and audibles at the line. If he cannot read blitzes and exploit defenses when they start stacking the line, then all this discussion, extending Evans, drafting Nelson and signing TO is all for nothing. Since all this seems to have come together by design, I really hope we can cross 2 and 3 off that list soon.

Who is this D-Bag and why does Yahoo let him write about sports?
scribo replied to zevo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well, the article on BB.com today has Lavar Arrington talking about him working with Maybin. In there Arrington mentions he helped Shawne Merriman get ready for the NFL. It also says Merriman mentored Maybin. Didn't Merriman have some type of suspension from the NFL...?
