Just a few counter points the highlighted "facts" (1) Based on what, their handling of Tylor? Tylor may be a nice guy, but he very well may be a flawed QB. McDermott didn't pick him, he inherited him. Could last year be indicative of the coaching staff trying to make chicken salad out of chicken manure? Time will tell, Tylor may flourish in Cleveland (IMHO they have better talent on offense than we had last year), and he may be mediocre next year, performance is the fact ... not our opinion. (2) For half of my counterpoint see #1. For the other half ... You expected the offense to be built in one off season??? really??? I honestly believe the plan was to get rid of the under performers/malcontents/people who didn't fit the program year 1, and start rebuilding the team in earnest year 2. IMHO, that even though we weren't tanking, the team performed beyond expectations, and with the help of the football gods ended up in the playoffs. To see if the brain trust can develop a team we are going to have to wait another year or two or three and compare their performance to the Bills of the last 17 years. (3) If a QB never throws a pass he will NEVER turn the ball over ... do you really think that is the path to success? The Bills biggest problem was other teams knew going in if they forced Tylor to be a pure QB, chances were high we were going to only score a field goal or two (and that was because "House money" was deadly at 50+ yards). (4) Did McDermott REALLY abandon Tylor, or did Tylor play himself to the bench??? Review Tylor's performance for the three games prior to his "abandonment". I do agree however that having to rely on Peterman was a sad state of affairs, but at that point he had to chose between a bad QB and an unknown ... after the Charger game he had to then chose between a bad QB and a horrendous QB ... he made the right choice, but that STILL doesn't make Tylor a good QB ... just better than Peterman at this point in their careers. (5) For half my counterpoint see #4. For the other half ... McDermott never made the judgement that Peterman would produce results better than Brady ... he took a gamble that Peterman could produce results better than Tylor ... ya win some, ya lose some

I don't think I agree .... McDermott has been big since day 1 about earning your right to compete. I think if the intention was to have that so called "bridge QB" the Bills would have gone after a vet with more playing experience. McDermott has never shied away from making a decision, right or wrong (starting Peterman in LA as a case in point) then living with the consequences and adjusting after the fact as necessary. That's what I like about this front office, they make a decision based on what they feel is best for the team ... then it's full steam ahead, damn the torpedoes. They are not one bit whishy washy about their decisions, and if the outcome isn't what they anticipated, there are no apologies, no CYA statements to the press, no press conference double talk ... it's just I made a decision that I thought was best for the team, it didn't work out as anticipated so it's on to our next game with "plan B". I find that approach so much more refreshing than staying with the status quo and hearing in the post game press conference .... "well it's hard to win in the NFL" ... or ... "the game plan was good, the guys just didn't execute" ... or ... "my system is great, we just don't have the players who fit it". The way I see it playing out is Peterman, McCarron, and a QB to be named later compete to start ... prior to game #1 the coaching staff will take all of the performances into account, and make their decision on who takes this team into the future.

IMHO ... I don't think McCarron was obtained to be a "bridge QB" (what ever the heck that is). McDermott is all about earning the right to compete. I think it was evident last season the Tylor was NOT the guy McDermott wanted to lead the Bills into the future, so I feel his and Beane's plan all along was to establish a QB room filled with young players with some sort of "upside" (what ever the heck that is) to compete for the starting job. That's not to say we aren't drafting a QB in the first round, or even trading up further for a "blue chip" (what ever the heck that means) QB. But keep in mind they will not let talent force them to over pay whatever value they have assigned to a particular player. If I were to put on my Nostradumbass beanie, their plan is to trade up to pick #3 if their guy is available, and the Colts aren't expecting a kings ransom ... but I could easily see them staying pat at #12 and picking BPA until a QB coincides with their perceived value. I think their strategy is that it's more probable to succeed with three chances that one will stand out.

I just don't see the infatuation with AJM ... but if the brain trust at OBD see something, I'm all in ... I trust the process. IMHO, the Pats* offer is kind of a blocking move to try to prevent the possibility that he goes to the Bills. They seem to go out of their way to weaken their opposition in the division, my case in point .... over paying for Gilmore ... acquiring Hogan ... acquiring Gillislee. I don't really pay close enough attention to know if the same situations occur between them and the Dolphins or Jets but I'd guess they do. Let's face it we will need another "arm" in the QB room. If they have faith that they will get the "next great QB" that extra arm doesn't need to be Super Bowl quality ... doesn't need to cost a bundle ... but DOES need to have a bit of experience. I just feel the Pats* are trying to block the next best obvious guy.

In years gone by Buddy Nix would just be settling in for his pre free agency period nap, and Rex would have declared us the off season champions after the Ivory trade ... this sure has been fun so far ... can't wait to see how this all plays out.

IMHO it would be dumb to trade to the #3 pick before the Browns make their #1 pick ... if we are sitting at #3 the Browns know we may take the QB that they have targeted and would be forced to pick their QB at #1. As it sits now ... the Browns can safely take a running back or edge rusher at #1 and wait until #4 for their QB.

I've been a Bills fan since the Rock pile days and there has only been one Bills QB that I've HATED ... Billy Joe Holbert ... for all of the rest, I've hoped with every fiber of my being for their success no matter how many times they may have broken my heart. The way I feel, if your leading the huddle wearing the red, white and blue .... your my guy.

Sure ... from one old timer to another .... I have NO idea what the heck OBD has in their little bag of tricks for this free agency period & Draft. This is the first time in a long time that I'm more than happy to trust the process ... they want to trade for a veteran QB ... I'm OK with it .... want to pull a Mike Ditka and trade our entire compliment of draft picks for pick #1 ... I'm OK with it ... want to hold pat and take a QB that falls to them at #21 ... I'm OK with it. I'm just a fan, my income isn't determined by the choices made by the scouting staff/GM/Head coach. I just have to sit back and enjoy.

Actually ... your over looking the fact that I'm just being a bit silly here ... conversations (to the best of my knowledge) that never happened, exchanging offers (to the best of my knowledge) that have never been made, to shoehorn my perception of a real life situation (I believe that the Bills want to trade up in the draft, I also believe the Bills have offered the Eagles a second round draft pick for Foles) for some light hearted reading in the dead time before free agency. Nowhere in the post did I say Foles was a GOOD/GREAT or even serviceable QB ... just thought it would be funny if the "seller" just kept referring to him as the Super Bowl MVP ... also I never said Taylor was good, bad or indifferent ... but once again referred to him as a play off caliber QB ... once again "gilding the lily" as any good salesman does.

The Bills intention all along is to trade up in the draft to get a QB that they have fallen in love with, the catch being that they feel that they have to be at the #2 pick to ensure getting him? IMHO ... The Bills are planning on going after an established NFL QB ... Foles, Keenum, Luck, Cousins, whoever ... I have no idea who, but I'll "trust the process" My reasoning is that we just shipped off TT (a move I applaud) so that is a CLEAR signal to EVERYONE that we are going after a QB in the near future. Trying to trade up in the draft for "your guy" is a pretty risky endeavor ... aside from drafting a player is pretty much a 50% 50% chance of hitting big ... you have to find a draft partner who is willing to deal, and unless you have the #1 choice, you have to worry about your guy falling to a spot you can draft him. I think the brain trust at OBD sees the value of a bird in the hand being worth two in the bush. My bold prediction is .... We were the team that offered the Eagles the 2nd rounder for Foles ... they countered with a "no, but close ... you have to sweeten the deal a bit". This exchange prodded the Bills to expedite trading TT for a bit more "draft capital" in order to "sweeten the deal".

Nooooo .... don't just look at teams with BAD years ... look at teams who were potentially "tanking". For arguments sake ... the teams who ended up as the bottom 2 per year, because if your tanking and end up any higher you are even bad at tanking. 2011 ... Colts 2-14 ... previous year they were 10-6, next year they were 11-5 (this year Manning had a bad neck) Rams 2-11 2012 ... Jags 2-14 KC 2-14 ... next year they were 11-5 (fits your premise) 2013 ... IMHO Whaley was as good as gone after that press conference. The way I think it went down was when McDermott was interviewed he was told that Whaley was going to be fired after the draft and asked if he had anyone that he'd prefer to work with as the new GM. When McDermott was hired Whaley was told he was on the way out and politely asked to butt out of the draft process, and McDermott was the interim ipso facto GM/head coach until they could hire Beane.

I remember back in the day my dad was involved in a Bills Backers club in Lancaster. Some players and sometimes coaches would come out each week to talk to the club and then hang around after the meeting for a meal and a few "adult beverages". Those days the players pretty much made workman's wages and were glad to show up for a free meal and a night of drinking "on the club". To the best of my memory the only player to turn down an invitation was Cookie Gilchrist (he wanted $100 appearance money). My fondest memories were of Ernie Warlick, a real personable guy, he compared hand sizes with me, and my hand with outstretched fingers barely covered his palm ... the man had the biggest hands I've ever seen. The club once had both Kemp & Lamonica the same night, they SAID the whole Kemp/Lamonica QB controversy was kind of funny and didn't bother them at all. After the meeting the guys started talking about Euchre, and my dad said that his son (me) was probably the best Euchre player in the room. Both Kemp & Lamonica laughed (I had to be about 10 or 11 at the time) and said let's play a game. They didn't want me & my dad to team up because we might have signals ... so my dad partnered with Kemp, and I partnered with Lamonica ... which to my eyes was perfect ... dad was a Kemp supporter, and I wanted Lamonica to be our starter. The Euchre game went back and forth tooth and nail. We ended up losing because Kemp caught Lamonica on a re-nig on the last hand.
