Fanball.com's Pre-Camp Player Rankings
Ramius replied to BuffaloBilliever's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I corrected your quote to more accurately reflect the more likely QB scenario in 2008(based on past track records of Buffalo QBs and coaches). -
I'm not forgetting Crowell. He's a good LB and i've love to keep him around. However, finding his replacement would be much easier than finding one for Evans and/or Peters.
-
I like the signing. Keeps a decent young player in the fold, and he's a decent rotational piece on the DL. I also like the fact that the team is continuing to show that they value the lines. However, we do need to re-sign Evans and Peters. Players like Kyle Williams can be replaced relatively easily if it comes down to it. Players like Evans and Peters are NOT replaceable.

One, your first paragraph shows exactly that you know jack sh-- about me. Two, i'm trying to figure out what kind of !@#$ up world you live in where being optimistic about your favorite team is "unhealthy," while whining on and on about how bad your team sucks and nothing they do is right, and they arent going to be any good is "normal." And i cant charge you $300 for my advice, because i'm still about 6 months short of having the "Dr." in front of my name.

My girlfriend would agree.

difference of opinion is one thing. But theres something to be said when ones posts/opinions throughout the years become a pattern of negativity towards anything and everything on the supposed home team. I've run into people like that at the stadium as well as on here, and frankly, i wonder, if the team makes that person so miserable, why are they bothering to root for them?
-
got it. i should be more like you 2 and simply whine/complain about everything the Bills do.
-
i dont hate Bill at all. We have a "healthy" debate ongoing for a few years now, which i actually enjoy. As for the fans, most of them are alright. i do question the allegiance of some "fans" (ie-the poster directly above me)

I cant comment, but perhaps you could ask Grant Fuhr?

With Butler getting an extension...
Ramius replied to JasoninMT's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I disagree with this. The market dictated schobel's value, regardless of what Kelsay was being paid. There were a number of big time DEs signing huge deals/extensions in the 50-70 million range, guys like kearney, freeney, and guys like allen, charles grant and will smith this year. Schobel was coming off of a 14 sack season, 3rd best in the league, and has averaged 10 sacks a year for his career. he deserved the contract he got. Even if we hadn't signed kelsay, Schobel still would have been in line for a major upgrade/extension. 10 sack a year guys simply make a ton of $. The same thing with peters. The going rate for a pro-bowl LT is in the 8-10 million per season range right now. Even if dockery was making 2 million a season, Peters would still be inclined to ask for a huge extension, because thats the market value for his position/caliber. this isnt directed at you, just the board in general, but i cannot for the life of me understand how everyone complains that we let all of our good players go, yet when we sign them to extensions that keep them here, everyone whines that we overpaid for the player. -
Go to Austin to see bluefire...or go to the big house, or come to doak here in tallahassee, and you'll see how its done. At FSU we pack 90K fans into a stadium, while absolutely beautiful, it about the size of the ralph minus the 300 levels. When it comes to college games, sitting/standing is a good indicator of wealth. It costs a lot to sit at big time college games.

Sorry there arent more gator fans on here. But thats because most of the toothless redneck trash of central florida dont have internet access in their trailer.

Coaches vote Rodney Harrison dirtiest player in the NFL
Ramius replied to Pete's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
A big part of the reason for harrison's* rep as a dirty player also cannot be summed up in a ncie little statistic. He may not have the most personal fouls, but watch any pats* game, and hell, even the old charger games* and you'll see no less than half a dozen plays where rodney is diving late into the pile, or throwing a forearm/elbow into someones neck and or head. He doesnt try to tackle people, he tries to hurt them in his "tackling" technique. rodney harrison is the only person i have ever wished injury upon, because frankly, he deserves it. -
I dont buy into the clemson hype at all. they'll probably do what they usually do, start 7-1 and finish the season 8-4. Va Tech will be a force to be reckoned with as usual, and Wake is supposed to be decent this year. With miami, they're in the same boat as FSU. Not sure what you're going to get, but they should be able to threaten for 7-8 wins. My pick for surprise team this season that could make a 3 game jump in the standings? UNC.

JP -Bills Biggest Bust the last 5 years
Ramius replied to Albany,n.y.'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bogus response. Wade has taken it in the pooper in 2 of his playoff "losses" with the homerun throwforward and the romo FG-drop. -
Regarding the Booker situation, they talked about it on the radio, and Jeff Cameron (you listen to him BM?) was fully on booker's side, and in not so many words, basically said that there were other player reports of the same thing happening. Jeff Bowden not taking any responsibility, not taking control, not having a coherent plan. In fact, there was one player that told Cameron that they had no substitution pattern on offense, and that the players subbed out when they wanted to. That pissed booker off, because they told o one particular instance when Booker wasnt on the field at the end of a close loss, and Bowden's response was that the other guy on the field didnt take himself out. All of tallahassee is glad that jeff bowden is gone. To gordio, The FSU offense began its down turn with Mark Richt leaving for UGA and the promotion of Jeff Bowden. He really was that bad and Bobby wouldnt do anything to step in and change things. Bobby's been delegating on the offense for years. But delegating to jeff was a horrible decision. Theres been a change in philsophy down here since Jimbo arrived. The offense is run differently. There's a direction and an accountability. They've showed the ability to change on the fly when needed. Now we need to restock the talent. The past few down seasons and the overall parity on college football have depleted our talent, but its back on the rise. This year's class is Fisher's first where he had a full recruiting season to use. There's supposed ot be some real good talent coming in. The program is back on its way up. It still may take another year or 2 before we get back to the very top, but we'll get there. This program has too much history and prestige not to. As for this season, the opening games will be rough, with the suspensions (hence the reason we scheduled some 1-AA teams), but we've the (high end) possibility to win 10 games. I'd be happy with 9 as well. 8-4 is ok, provided we win the bowl game. Less than 8 wins is unacceptable.

I agree in the fact that most of the players on that list are among the tops in the league, however the list screams of hype more than actual talent when it comes to the rankings. The other problem i have with the list is that is tends to hype players based more on 2007, not their entire body of work. I think Mario Williams is going to be a great pass rucher when its all said and done. He showed some real talent last season and was great in the second half. However, they are claiming he's the 2nd best defender in the league, behind Champ "hype" Bailey? Also, what about someone like Julius Peppers? He was a terror his first 5 years in the league, but he has one bad season, and now he's not even a top 50 player?

thanks!

JP -Bills Biggest Bust the last 5 years
Ramius replied to Albany,n.y.'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Good post. For a variety of reason (some JP's fault, some out of his control), he just didnt pan out for Buffalo. I still think he can go somewhere else and do well, and i wish him the best when he does go. I do disagree with you on the project label. It was well known around draft time 2004 that Losman was more of a raw prospect that was going to need some time to adjust to the pro game. And the Bills, through their own doing, didnt afford him the time early on in his career. (it certainly didnt help that he was injured a lot of his rookie season.) I think a lot fo the frustration comes from the fact that he's labeled with the dreaded "1st round QB" stigma, so he's expected to produce at a high level fairly on. There would have been much less strife had he simply been taken 7 picks later, at the beginning of round 2. -

Walker isnt elite. He's a sold RT, and being paid like one. Dockery is a very good guard. He's not a top 5 guard, but he's definitely in the top-10 or top-12 starting guards in the NFL. And his pay is right in that area. (especially given the recent changes in salary structure). You've been acting like the Bills paid double the market value for those players, which they certainly did not. And i'm not arguing against drafting early round OLs. They need to be spending more early round (rounds 2-3) picks along the OL. Either way, you need to pay them when they approach free agency. Also, you need to consider most OL take 2-3 years to fully develop. So while they are cheap, they arent yet at the top of their game. Then when the OL players hit the top of their game, they need to be paid. Some of you guys complain about the revolving door of CBs, but would replace it with a revolving door of OL. The Bills decided that, for them, the best and quickest way to improve the OL was to go out and spend some bucks on it, instead of waiting 2-3 years for some rookies to hopefully develop. You act like there are 30 teams that all have "homegrown" talent on their OLs that are being paid 5 million combined. That simply isnt the case. -
You nailed it head on. And thats the problem with nepotism. There were harsh critics of the offense, but Bobby took that as criticizing his kid and not his OC as he should have. And no one on the team/staff would stand up to him. Jeff Smith gets fired in '03 or '04 at the latest, not december of 2006. Fisher is the coach-in-waiting, and he's got his hands all over the offense. Bobby might offer some input into the overall direction or gameplan, but everything else is fisher. I agree with you that bobby is simply trying to out-wait JoePa. The bigger change when bobby leaves will be on the defense. Mickey Andrews is on the verge of retirement and almost did so this year. he'll leave when bobby does at the latest. This makes you wonder if Fisher will clean house on the D side or if they'll promote someone like Amato to DC. I'm betting on the house cleaning. Amato has been around awhile. We lost the DC in waiting last season when Kevin Steele jumped ship to 'bama with that homo nick saban.

No, i questioned the pick of Corner in round 4. I thought we had needs elsewhere, and the pick could have been spent better off on another position (like the OL). But, the draft was 2 months ago, so i am over it. Also, when dealing with 4th rounders, thats when you really get into the hit or miss part of the draft. Me, i'd rather have Ko Simpson over Duke Preston. As for the free agents brought in, none of them have shut down corner capability. James is a nice corner who has been bothered by injuries. He could turn out to be a solid CB, or turn out to be a bust. Sure, McKelvin can be viewed the same way, but he's got much higher potential. Greer is a nice fill in starter and would make a great nickel back, however i dont tihnk he's great starting material. And, as posters have mentioned, you need 3 good CBs to defend today's passing game. We play NE 2x per year and we'd have to go through Indy in the playoffs. You are going to need a very good secondary to stop both of those teams. As for drafting McKelvin, we needed a starter at CB. I had hoped Youboty would pan out, but thusfar he hasnt. It happens. you miss picks. It would be the same as if the Bills had spent a 3rd on an OL that didnt pan out. I wouldnt say that they shouldnt draft another one just because one previous one busted. Also, there were no DEs or WRs taking at #11, and its very tough to justify taking a backup OL at #11. As for my statement about Jauron drafting positions of need, i outlined why. Like it or not, SS was a position fo major need in 2006. Now you may not agree drafting one when we did, but you cant say it wasnt a pick of major need. Same thing with Marshawn in '07, and same as McKelvin this year. As for letting them go, i'm willing to give brandon a shot to see what he does regarding the cap and what players we keep. TD was the one who let some names walk. But the only major player to go since then was Clements, and spent that money on the OL instead. The Bills decided it was better to have a FA OL and a rookie CB than vice versa. A rook CB will conribute a lot more a lot quicker than a rook OL. We're on the brink of an exciting season. We've beefed up the defense. We've added some weapons on the offense. Lets talk about that, instead of worrying about the draft 10 months from now, especially when we have no idea what this team will look like then.

Dont you have more whining about the OL to do somewhere? OR perhaps you could finally tell us what NFL teams have starting quality backup LTs.

Is it nice to be able to recycle all of your old posts and just change the year listed on them? I was also wondering if you have some type of filing system for your recycled posts so you can dig them up and re-post them easier? I doubt you'd need a secretary, because they all fall under "DB whining" and "OL whining," but i was wondering if you categorize them more specifically like "generic posts bitching about 1st round DBs," "posts bashing Donte Whitner," and "future posts bashing Leodis McKelvin." I'd try to point out that in each of his 3 drafts, the Bills and jauron have selected a players of immediate need in the early rounds, btu we both know that logic isnt going to fly with you. Keep on trucking with the "the bills will draft a DB i round 1 next year" posts. They add SO much to any discussion.
