  1. It's pretty satisfying when one of the little people start thinking they can take over the game, only to wind up having to watch Probst snuff their flame. Long live the Specialist!!!! (and Kudos to that crying lady who actually DID something this time...)
  2. YOu know, Ebert's predicament is, in my opinion, one of the scariest prospects I can imagine. When I've cared for patients who were non-verbal, paralyzed, etc, it always made me wonder if they still had a lot going on upstairs and were essentially trapped within their body just waiting to pass. I remember seeing a video during the first day of the most intense class that I took during my BSN program at Emory U about this very topic. The video showed an elderly female being found on the ground while the medical team and family attempted to assess her condition. Although she was not speaking or showing any emotions outwardly, she was cognitively intact and narrating the video. Several of my fellow students began crying as the lady expressed the fear, uncertainty and frustration of not being able to communicate and being unaware as to what happened to her. I admit, it left a very profound impression on me and I felt that seeing this during my schooling allowed me to become a stronger practitioner. Thankfully Ebert never lost the ability to communicate, but it's very clear that his mind was as sharp as ever - perhaps even sharper - while his physical body essentially fell apart around him. He was powerless to prevent it, and that in itself is tragic, in my opinion. I cannot imagine what that experience must have been like for him, but it's obvious that he met it head-on and continued to live life to the fullest of his ability even when faced with such a powerful foe. The more I think about his predicament, the more I respect him. We're almost exactly the same age...wasn't it so awesome when we were kids and this show came on? It's funny cause last weekend when I was watching a piece on David Letterman, I was realizing that I started watching him back around '82 or so when he first got the Late Night gig on NBC, and I couldn't think of anyone else who has been "with me" that far back in to my childhood. When I heard the news that Ebert passed, I realized that he was right there too, which certainly explains why I was so saddened by this news. But we can probably totally relate to each other in terms of two movie lovers who couldn't wait for the next episode with Gene and Roger talking about all the newest movies. Good times! omg, the mcdonalds exchange was hilarious...what a great clip
  3. 2013 World Series - Texas Rangers vs Atlanta Braves May the best club win! On an unrelated note, this is the time of year when I really miss Paul...he was my fellow Braves brother!
  4. Braves have stuck out 18 times in the first two games...yet it made not a lick of difference. This is the best team we've fielded in a long time, and a couple of these guys could be breakout gems (see: Evan Gattis) Hopefully Venters won't need further surgery and his elbow will be okay...we don't have a weak spot anywhere in the rotation or in the lineup. Hell, even whipping boy Dan Uggla went yard already.
  5. Vader may have been plotting against him all along, for all we know...one less competitor.
  6. Would hate to see us take a guard with our first pick...a playmaker or a defensive stud...stick with that philosophy.
  7. Wow, I still remember how exctied I got as a kid when he and Gene came on the air for a half hour...always wanted the show to last longer. Very sad day...knew it was coming soon, though, with all he's been though. The mind could have gone another 15 rounds, but unfortunately the body couldn't. RIP, Roger
  8. Very cool, thanks! http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/good-eats/buffalo-wings-recipe/index.html
  9. Glad to see you've finally come to agree with me about Aaron Murray
  10. I have no problem taking more time to prep and cook if the end results are good. Whenver I've made them at home, I cant seem to get the skin crispy w/out also over-cooking the meat, so they come out a bit dry. I'll give this a shot
  11. I was watching Bar Rescue last night and one of the things they installed at the bar from this episode was some sort of pressure-cooking deep fryer. It cooked the wings much faster and they came out SUPER crispy....the guys were raving about them. Anyone ever heard of something like this?
  12. I saw this Emanuel Newton guy fight from this past Thursday, and when I was looking up some of his other fights I came across this one against King Mo. Talk about a great finish!! The King never even saw this coming... http://www.eog.com/bellator-90-muhammed-king-mo-lawal-vs-emanuel-newton-full-fight-video/
  13. Whoa, seriously, that's a SPORT?? That's embarrassing lol. At first the only thing that was coming to mind was that rythmic stuff they do in the pool that was parodied by SNL back in the early 80s...how does this stuff become an olympic event? Talking about Old School makes me feel like firing it up again!
  14. Very cool! And that's an interesting suggestion about MMA becoming an olympic sport. When I first started watching it was more like a tough man contest where there weren't any weight classes and the guys would fight up to three or four times per night tourney style until there was a winner. It's evolved into such a structured sport now that I think it could easily transition to something like the olympics. And lol@thythmic gymnastics...I don't even know what the hell that is, but if it's in the olympics Im with you...get rid of it! If you check out the Bellator fights, let me know what you think. Next Thursday 4/4 is, I think, the season finale, but it looks like there are at least two seasons per year, so shouldn't be long until it starts up again.
  15. lol, I knew it would be a very limited number of people who might know why I said that, so thank you for making it worth it lol. The topic of her imaginary gas is of never ending enjoyment for me
  16. So a couple weeks ago I decided to order UFC 158 to see the GSP and Johnny Hendricks fights. I ended up having a blast with it, which has rekindled my interest in MMA. I used to follow it pretty closely back in the early '90s when guys like Oleg Taktarov, Shamrock, Dan Severn, and Royce Gracie were fighting on some of the early UFC events. I've since come to see MMA as the purest form of athletic competition on earth...it's me and my style of fighting vs you and your style. No sticks, balls, goals, or anything else...just my skills vs yours. Pretty awesome! Anyway, I saw that Spike has this Bellator organization on each Thursday so last week I watched it. I have to say, the pacing of the show and the quality of the fights are very impressive. They don't waste a lot of time yapping or watching them walk to the ring, they give you a quick blurb about the fighters, get them in the ring and they fight. Last week I saw a nice variety of finishes...couple submissions, one or two quick KOs, one or two that went to the judges. The fighters are very active and don't seem to be interested in posturing or farting around...they quickly engaged their opponent and got down to business. I'm not sure I fully understand how this is structure, but apparently it's based on season-long tourneys in each weight class, with the winners of the tourneys earning a bout against the champs. So far I'm really entertained by this format and these bouts, so just curious if anyone else is a fan of this company?
  17. Maybe Lana has been traveling around the country?
  18. If I were to make a list of posters whose banishment would really take away from the enjoyment of this site, O'Captain, My Captain would definitely be on that list! So turn that frown upside down, brother!!
  19. Here's the thing: Anyone who paid attention to the Falcons last season saw exactly what sort of impact the scheme can have on the success of a team. I live in Flowery Branch and even though I don't consider myself a Falcons fan, I see most of their games and pay attention to what's going on with the franchise. The Falcons D had average talent at best, but Nolan came in here and was able to turn them into a strength. We had a DC in B'lo who admittedly was in town solely as a favor to Chan. I made this point several times last season - when you have a DC who is here with a litlte more motivation than to simply do a colleague a favor, one who is actually able to scheme to our strengths, we may very well be surprised at the results. For too many seasons now we've had coaches who were simply unable to compete with their smarter, more savvy counterparts. Pettine has the potential to give us the type of cerebral edge we've not had since Dick LeBeau was in town. Not nearly the same level of experience, obviously, but he's clearly a significant upgrade over these DCs who consistently fail to put our players in a position to succeed and to utilize them to their potential. I know that Shep has been a disappointment for the most part, but I remember very well his interview on the John Murphy show last year and it really left an impression on me. This kid has a passion for the game and I'm confident that whatever his capabilities are, Pettine will coax them out of the kid. He and Bradham will have another year of experience and they'll have a DC who isn't here to pass the time and collect a paycheck. If Dareus can return to the form he showed as a rook, K.Williams can get it together and stay healthy, and guys like Carrington and even Troupe continue to improve, I think we have enough young talent on that side of the ball where a smart, aggressive DC like Pettine could come in here and turn this unit into a real force. We have more talent on D than Atlanta did last year, and I'm optimistic that showing Wanny the door was a big step toward getting our defense turned around.
  20. Well that's good to hear, cause my understanding was that foie gras was about to be banned in California or somewhere out west because there were some farms that had been caught perpetuating animal cruelty. I know that the moment of slaughter isn't likely going to exactly be fun for the animals, but I can't bear to eat something that I know suffered during its life for the sole purpose of being my food. I'm not some PETA nut or an activist, I just feel strongly that the animals should be respected and not made to suffer a horrible existence prior to hitting the dinner table. It's the very reason why, although I have no personal interest in hunting, I support the practice and admire those who are able to hunt for their own food. It's been proven over and over again that slaughter can be done humanely, and this is where I put my support. When I hear or see about a practice that runs counter to this, it tends to stay with me and affect me on an emotional level. The other day I was watching Bar Rescue, a show that I've really gotten addicted to. The host of the show, Jon Taffer, went apesh*t on a bar owner for the way they cooked a lobster. Small things like that are so easy to fix. I fuggin LOVE lobster and I'm all for eating them up with lots of butter. But it's such a simple thing to cook them in a manner that minimizes suffering instead of torturing it, you know? People just seem to lack respect for so many things these days, this is just one more example of it, IMO.
