Yep, I know, that's why I say I try to avoid it as best as possible. I try to eat kosher prepped meats if I can help it. Shoving tubes down the birds throat and force feeding it all it's (brief) life just doesn't lend itself to an appetizing dish for me. Not judging others, just stating my own preference. Like I said, I'm a meat eater and always will be. But veal is on my list, and now foie gras, and I make some degree of effort to eat kosher meats.

1) I don't find the idea of organ "meats" appetizing in the slightest, and no matter how good it may taste, the idea of it would never allow me to focus on that; 2) Although I'm a meat eater and have no qualms about that, I prefer to avoid eating foods where the animal had to suffer in some way in order to provide it; 3) one of the contestants on Top Chef undercooked it and the comments from Padma and one or two of the others made me want to vomit; 4) Screw the French!!!

Cool. I never thought I'd be into it, but I enjoy watching some of these food shows like Top Chef. Of course, from time to time I'll come across something that looks and sounds absolutely disgusting and wonder why anyone would want to eat it (e.g. foie gras...wtf!!!), but for the most part it's very interesting.

Well said. I often hear people mocking soccer and stating how it's unrealistic to ever think it would become the top sport in the US. I don't know who was espousing this as a realistic result to begin with! Of COURSE soccer will never overtake the NFL in terms of popularity, revenue, player salaries, etc. Even soccer knows that lol. But to use that measuring stick to determine if the sport is successful or unsuccessful is asinine. It's a niche sport that is making consistent strides in gaining increasing mainstream interest and acceptance. Our national league will have it's 20 year anniversary in 2016. WC qualifier matches and international friendlies sell out stadiums all across the country. ESPN has secured solid ratings for its EPL matches, WC coverage, Champions League Final coverage, etc, etc. And on top of that, we have a national team that is working to change its culture and take the next step in becoming a legit power on the world stage. So you don't have to look very hard to see that the sport has become VERY successful and that it has a bright future in the USA. Of course it's not the NFL...it'll never be the NFL...and that's perfectly fine.

To me, a 0-0 match is the barometer for when someone "gets" the sport. I can understand how it's frustrating for the uninitiated to start watching soccer and become disappointed/frustrated by the lack of scoring, but as you said, there is so much drama specific to the match outside of the actual number of goals scored. I missed the match from last night, but the story line and history alone was just incredible. Only the 2nd time EVER that we've come away with something other than a loss playing a qualifier match at Azteca. Only the 8th time in nearly 80 matches where the Mexicans didn't come away with the 3 pts. Klinsi with the nation watching following these "anonymous" cowards talking poop about his coaching style. I mean, there's enough there for even the casual fan to sink their teeth into. I only saw the highlight film from last night, but SEVENTEEN CORNERS for Mexico??? How did we possibly survive that? And just watching some of the moves that Hernandez, Dos Santos, and Aquino were putting on our guys, I can't believe we held up for 92 min.

That's a common criticism, but a couple cool things about the scoring is 1) a near-goal can be almost as exciting as an actual goal, and sometimes even more exciting, and 2) goals often look completely different from one another. Take baseball, for example...how often does one home run truly look different than the last three? Baseball highlights look pretty much the same game to game, night to night. With soccer you'll often see a high degree of variation, sometimes even seeing something you've never seen before. Those of us who have played the game also tend to have a lot of appreciation for ball movement. It's a very intricate game that requires far more skill than people realize. I"m not the biggest fan of a shootout either, but you have to realize that by the time they get there they've already had a full 90+ min of regulation plus two additional OT periods. At some point you just have to decide a winner. With the exception of the BS diving, I just don't find much about the game that I don't love.

Well said...and I agree about the apology. The show has been on a long while and aside from a few teams who developed a case of "ugly Americanitis", I don't recall the show ever stepping into hot water or being disrespectful. Hopefully this was dealt with internally, as well, and the bonehead director or producer(s) responsible took a few well-placed smacks to the back of the head.
