We played "slap-tag" in high school. "It" was in the circle of the basketball markings, then had to leave the circle and hop on one foot. When they tagged someone, that new one could run back to the circle, but all others could whack them as hard as they liked with an open hand along the way - but not in the head. You didn't want to get caught in the corner. 4 years of PE in high school was what it was back then, following on from grade school. You started out with a run around the gym. Then jumping jacks, then squat thrusts, then push-ups. Every three or four days, running across the gym as fast as possible, grabbing Indian clubs to get the agility tuned up. It worked - I can recall few classmates through the years that one might say were chubby. Of course, that was long before so many meals were consumed out of the home. I had to take swimming my soph year, and the coach would line up the non-swimmers on the deep end, faced towards the water, and walk back and forth shoving in this or that one. We swimmers had those long bamboo pole to fish 'em out. End of the year, everybody knew how to swim. We didn't wear trunks - could you imagine that these days?

Here's what a hi-speed rail is up against: - you can't run it on the same lines as 30 mph freight trains. - the ridership. How many people on a daily basis will be showing up to travel between Buffalo, Albany, and NYC? - you will have to build dedicated lines. That's right-of-way purchase of huge amounts of land, and the huge cost of construction. The current lines in bad land - mountains, poor, wet soil, are already there. Not much possibility for building outside of that, except at stellar cost. -the European and Japanese hi-speed rails. Their nations were torn to pieces after WWII. They build dedicated lines. Without crossings. Their HS lines have overpasses and underpasses - no passenger car driver is out there reading a map and creeping across the tracks. No local truck driver pondering where to deliver to. - if they won't get you there before your personal vehicle can, why bother? Take a train and arrive at your destination. What then? Wait for your luggage to be unloaded, then take a costly taxi? Rent a car? Without a vehicle of your own - where are the local buses? This is a political feel-good thing timed for the running up to "Earth Day". They should leave the Earth Day festivities to the schools, who are busy terrifying children with tales of savage apocalypse.

The cap hit would kill CAR. They are already in dire straits, AFAIK, they have not been able to sign a single FA. They are in the same boat as if IND's Manning or CIN's Palmer wanted to move elsewhere.

All of you Anti-Peters fans can rejoice
stuckincincy replied to Cornerville's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's right. It happens - I recall CIN's Levi Jones (#10 in 2002), because he's what comes to mind, and I'm sure other posters can name more. -
The 1st part of your poll contained loaded questions IMO. I attempted to vote for the 2nd part, but I was informed by the s/w that I didn't pick a choice for the 1st part, so I couldn't vote for the 2nd part.

Sources: Peters to Eagles for three picks
stuckincincy replied to TimGraham's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
All so. But the 32 teams have but 32 owners - somewhat different for GB - and having an owner convinced that each of his picks are the "one" has played on through the years. I never discount the egoism of any member of the Gang of 32 - they enjoy the advantage of wealth; obviously none lack for material goods, and have a half-billion asset if they care to venture into any credit market. They can be as capricious as they like. And even if they err, they still get the fun of using their personal prerogatives, with little danger of hurting themselfs on the bottom line. -

Seemed like this was an inevitability...oh well, now they move on. Stoking things - could the Bills be thinking about packaging and moving up? -
Remains to be seen, if it's indeed a done deal - Peters' actions, and that of his agent didn't exactly make him a "clean deal" type of player. PHI likely included deal-voiding language if things can't be hammered out. I'd be surprised if a 3rd was offered by PHI. But you never know.

Mel Gibson gets divorced after 30 years
stuckincincy replied to \GoBillsInDallas/'s topic in Off the Wall Archives
I don't know how one could turn away from a spouse of 30 years. So many things shared, good times and bad. "...to have and to hold from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer, for poorer, to honor and obey, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish; from this day forward until death do us part." SHLEP...easy to remember... Share Help Love Encourage Protect. Be a shlep. -
Thanks for the eye-witness report! It's appreciated.

The Wonderful World of Bacon and things called Bacon: http://www.foodsubs.com/MeatcureBacon.html#bacon I remember in previous times, frying up a half-pound of American bacon and eating it up, and myself and my ancestors pouring off the fat from the pan for other usages.

Somebody once observed that the entire landscape of the nation would change if the general election was held on the 1st Tuesday after the 1st Monday in April.

Fred Jackson's agent speaks out
stuckincincy replied to TimGraham's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree, zow. I won't get into Jackson vs. Lynch, but Lynch will be sitting out some games. There's only 16 in the season so I think they'd be foolish not to work out something. Who knows the ins and outs of NFL contracts, but if there is concern about his age, couldn't they offer a fat signing bonus, some incentives, in a 1 or 2 year deal? Everybody likes cash up front... -
The Greenies and Lefties here in Cincy screamed and screamed for bus routes from the inner city to the suburbs. Jobs! Opportunities! For years, they got their way. After those several years, years of 3, 4, 5 people on the buses, it was stopped. It turned out that the inner city crowd was quite happy with subsidized, virtually free housing, Medicade, calling for an ambulance to take them for free emergency room care if they sneeze, free life insurance, food stamps, wic, free phone service, free heat, free cable, free training to sign up for and not bother to attend - but you have to sign up to keep that the eligibility for all the other free things. If you do bother to work, there is earned income credit cash coming your way. Extra cash in the past year or so, too. I think the el-hi school attendance for the children of people just looking for a "fair shake" hovers around 60%...on a good day. There is little reason to work in America. Just show up and vote, learn how to play the game, and you, too, can live a life of ease without lifting a finger - easily a better life than 90% of the rest of the world's population.

Looking at the Bills depth chart as of today
stuckincincy replied to San-O's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The NFL has insured that QBs and WRs, the pass game is the big deal in the last decade Their marketing studies successfully predicting a growing hot pocket, gnats' attention span viewership... So teams pay for DBs. -

Do you actually think they would pay off a City, a County? It is not at all in the scheme of things. You stating it to be doesn't make it so.
