You are right. Women are always chasing after me.

Here's a recent news story - blacks being more obese than other groups. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090716/ap_on_...ed_obesity_race It stated the usual PC line: "Experts believe there are several reasons for the differences. People with lower incomes often have less access to medical care, exercise facilities and more expensive, healthier food. In many places, minorities are disproportionately poor."... "Poverty is a very strong driver of obesity," said Kelly Brownell, director of Yale University's Rudd Center for Food Policy and Obesity."... But to its' credit, is also says: "Attitudes about weight also are believed to be a factor, said Dr. Liping Pan, a CDC epidemiologist. Researchers cited a 2008 study that found black and Hispanic women had significantly lower odds of being dissatisfied with their body size than white women."... "Black and Hispanics are more accepting of high weight," Pan said, adding that heavy people who are satisfied with their size are not likely to diet or exercise."... That was followed by some more PC speak, "However, it could be that over time as people struggle with poverty and environment ..."they come to accept the higher weights," Brownell said."... Culture matters. The city adjacent and just north of where I reside is predominately black. It is also affluent and educated. I have noted for years, that the contents of many black person's cart tends to be loaded with high calorie, salt and fat-laden foods. Sugared cereals, plenty of meats, soda pop, cheese, snack foods, ice cream, pasta etc. and little whole grain products, and few fresh or frozen vegetables. Or canned vegetables. These folks aren't whipping out Food Stamp or W.I.C. ids at the checkout. I'm envious - they have tasty shopping carts! There is a large number of Hispanics in my area; my observation is that they tend to buy fresh produce, lean cuts of meats, etc. Caucasians are all over the map - a cart of junk, a cart of decent fare. I also noted that people who plunk a kid into one of those elongated carts with the seat - regardless of observed ethnicity - tend to pile up the basket with a Diet from H*ll. On a sad note, I see very little outside activity by the children that live around me in the summer - or anytime for that matter. Several have these $200 electric cars that they tool around in. No bikes, though. When I do notice them, most are a little more puffy when each year rolls by.. Well, those are my observations. I patiently await being branded as a racist or a pedophile...

I read the same thing - but I can't recall where. I did see a show, that depicted how a body deprived of food intake uses up its' resources. It was fascinating. I do think that folks that carry some extra pounds have taken quite a beating the past few decades. And anorexia and bulimia exist, sadly, and can kill. The wonderfully talented songstress Karen Carpenter comes to mind. I do know that in other areas of the world, excess weight is prized as a sign of success and wealth. When I was a lad, the family of a friend of mine had a foreign exchange student from Thailand. She arrived so thin, you thought you could slip her under a door. When she left for her homeland, she probably gained 30 lb. She was very happy about that. IIRC, her name was Rachne. A very pleasant young girl...I hope she is still with us and is living a happy life.

And according to it, I am overweight and at risk. http://www.cdc.gov/healthyweight/assessing...2&inches=70 My blood pressure is fine. I had a fasting lipid profile done this past Thursday. Total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, triglycerides were fine. I had a cardiac screening last month - carotid arteries, abdominal aortic aneurysm screen, arterial stiffness index, ankle brachial index, EKG, echocardiogram were all OK. Also, a hemoglobin A1C - all OK. And a CMP. Only a slightly elevated glucose, well below any concern and not an unusual, slight elevation for my age. And a TSH - OK. But I am BMI overweight...

One Small Step - 40 Years Ago Today
stuckincincy replied to /dev/null's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Why this big deal over a 40th anniversary? My guess is to deflect press coverage away from "carbon" tax and the "health care" smoke 'n mirrors campaign. -
OAK, 1968 deserves a mention. Biletnikoff, Warren Wells, Willie Brown, Dave Greyson were a nice bunch on a 12-2 club. 1st in AFL scoring (32.2 ave. per game), 2nd lowest in points allowed (16.6 ppg). The Mad Bomber flung 25 td passes. Blanda added another 6. Blanda, Biletnikoff, and Brown are in the HOF.
-
It should not. Some folks are genetically disposed to retain weight, are missing this or that enzyme etc. I mention, though, that the hospital I patronize seems to have a lot of overweight workers. Not by those silly BMI definitions...these folks are carrying a lot of extra pounds. The hospital spent a bundle for a "wellness" facility a few years back - exercise equipment, nutritional advice etc. My guess is that it's free to employees.

Thankfully.

The Cardinals are considering Levi Jones.

Could be - one of the Cincinnati Enquirer B'gals beat writers mentioned what you say, a week or so ago. He's a big Vegas gambler, so that adds. -
Go for it. Your life, your personal relationships would improve. Your suggestion of TBD going offline... we log in. This seems an attempt to deflect and obfuscate my point - that being the concern about the 24/7 contact that so many buy into and end up driving themselves and those about them nuts. If you like it, so be it. If others do not, so be that. I recommend that folks need not be in constant communication. Tend to one's own garden first. And stop the snide posts, MattyT. You disagree with me - fine. Speak plainly, use declarative sentences in refutation.

No. I wish long distance phone calls cost $3 per minute like long ago. You know...back when we lived a peaceful life and didn't bother each other unless it was really important. If it was generally important, or simply a warm communication, a letter was written and sent. Which took time, contemplation. And no hot blood of the moment ruining relationships.

Way safer? Perhaps. I encourage people to have somebody film them under the influence. Then view same and explain to others how insightful and lucid and capable they are. Try it! Well...you need to take another look at Prohibition. We all know about the gang activity. It's a Hollywood favorite, and well-pounded into people's heads as an immutable truth. Almost never mentioned, is the fact that the "mundane" crimes, violence, indeed dropped off. Petty thefts. The person getting tanked up, going home and at best being a nasty loudmouth and at worst slaying his wife or kids - that diminished. A lot. People, who liked to take a drink or several, but also abided by the law, stopped their swilling. They kept their jobs, they cleaned up their domestic act. Cigs? This crap about cigs "costing" society is just that. A big lie. Smokers die younger - and quicker. They seldom linger and run up the costs. Yet, you see this Obama Administration and his slavish Congress imposing a giant increase in Fed cig tax...of course regressive on their "poor", ones that they love to have go and vote for them. In OH, cig tax is the 4th largest source of revenue. If they were concerned about anyone's health - same as all states or the Feds, they would make cigs illegal...guess why they don't... So add pot to the mix. Nice... And... Here's advice for business owners - an easy way to improve attendance and build good employees: Pay on Monday, not Friday. Monday pay gets saved, discussed, not blown on weekend yucks. If you want to party next weekend, you have to hang on to the cash, pay your bills first, and maintain your family's welfare. And think about this, worker - how your life might change if that check came on a Monday... And btw remember - it's very easy to increase the total of human happiness. Words of encouragement. Small things. Little acts of kindness. Gestures of love. It's so easy. -

Yup. CIN wouldn't have dumped him, and ate contract/cap $$$ unless they thought he was washed up. B'gal's, with all their cheapness, gives an injured player a long, long rope - David Pollack is still on their roster. And nobody cans an effective LT, even a part-timer. He missed a lot of action, got beat a lot when he played injured (to his credit - playing injured), and developed an attitude in the past several years (purchased a 1.5M Bugatti Veyron after re-upping his contract and bitched that he wasn't being appreciated ). Remember Rudi Johnson? Quite a good RB that got injured...and cut. He signed with DET and did nothing. Perhaps Jones can play well again. I sure wouldn't risk a lot of cash to find out. -
The energy of a shotgun blast into water is rapidly attenuated over the broad reservoir of water in a pond. Your frogs must somehow be bunching up. I can't say I've known a grown frog that cared much for company. See also shooting fish in a barrel - a discreet, contained system. A BB gun serves well, if you are a mind. And there are ways to attract frogs to the surface or onto the shore, but that's old ways, and I won't tell. The plank trick is far from the best methods. Respect the frog. Don't kill'em unless you have a recipe in mind. They eat the bugs that pester one. If I may, I also recommend feeding the local birds with regularity. My birds know that there is always the possibility of a meal at my little patch of dirt, year round. When I don't put out, they lurk around, and eat up the annoying flying insects. I almost never get bit. And personally, I like frog croaks. They are right up there with hen clucks.

How childish. Act better... -
Never been to one. I'm still mad at paying for refills I never drink at other places. And that carafe of coffee delivered to my table upon occasion. I want one 6 oz. cup. Black. That's it. Period. Then go away. Don't tell me your first name.

Get a BB gun and go to the water they live in, and plug 'em in the head. They like to drift up and put their forearms on the shore, same as leopard frogs. Or lay down a plank from the water to the bank - Bullfrogs like to climb out. Or get one of those trident barbed things you affix to a stick like the giggers do, and spear 'em. You can butcher and cook the leopards.

Still one of Disney's great movies... http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0046672/ I didn't catch until later years, that "Nemo" is the Latin for "nobody". James Mason turned out to be great casting for the role. As he was for "Journey to The Center of The Earth." Pat Boone also was well-cast, IMO.
