So. I am with you on the over reaction to the outcome of the game... I would say this... I definitely want everyone healthy over anything... but I also like to watch pre season to see those guys that provide some pop.. that look like they are gonna help improve this team... So, Walker, Jackson, Carter, Hairston, Bishop, Hancock, Sedrick, Hoecht, Ogunjobi, those guys that we haven't had before or are in their second year... like who is the bright spot... I am seeing precious little of that... some are injured, that is disappointing, Hancock and Gore seem to have shown a bit, that is nice for sure, the rest 2 games in are either a non event and some who have been with us have shown some regression... concerned... no, interested, yup... faith boosted not really... so, I am in between whistling by the grave yard... and looking for something more from these folks... especially the 2nd year players... but for sure no rookie of the year candidates have hit the field that I have seen... Blown season.. I am with you and laughing... this season again rides on Josh and if we can get just a bit of improvement out of our defense... doesnt even need to be epic, just moderate..

Not a huge Gabe fan... but I am even less of a Samuel fan... at least Gabe has some size.. 4th 5th guy... ok... But the sheer cap issue as you have layed it out with Samuel makes it totally cost prohibitive to cut him... like how you gonna work that.. its a bust all the way around. Watching an X take them back because they are desperate is as bad... the two together... I dunno... but its STILL probably better than Samuel... but I dont think the money is gonna work out I think Samuel is on this team.
-
Dude... you could have played you way over Bishop AND Hamlin in the last game... I would not besmirch the word atrocious by using it in this instance.
-
Anyone see Curtis Samuel today.... or this year? I have no idea what the dead cap hit is on this bust but if he gets a roster spot either the dead cap is too much or he has pictures of somebody LOL... These signings are what makes me question Beane sometimes... but the bottom line is I honestly would rather have Gabe than throw the 1 yard pass to CS at the line of scrimmage to get him blown up ...

This may be unpopular, because quite honestly, I am glad to be rid of his drama, as well as I believe that his leaving was addition by subtraction.. whole greater than the sum of its parts... but... if you are asking me how good is he now... I would guess after he completely heals from his ACL he would probably still be a No1 receiver in this room... not a top 10 guy in the league, but a top 25 guy maybe... good not excellent... this is nothing on Shakir, maybe he would get more yards, I dont know... But I am not sure he is a feature guy... top 30 in receptions and top 40 in yards... I feel like diggs would slot top 25 receptions and 30 in yards... BUT, for that kind of money, why would you do that? Plus the injury recovery, when is he really right... week 10 ... playoffs? And we know what we get from him recently in the playoffs... If you are asking me how good was he when he was with us... top 10... a serious weapon, but not a total domination reciever like St Ra, Jefferson, etc...

Does there need to be a rethinking of the basic D?

If I am honest, they are seeing an opening to not even game plan and run whatever they want knowing success is inevitable... kidding aside, there was really no silver lining... they ran, screened, quick hitches, rolled out, got the ball to recievers in space, downfield throws, QB scrambles, bully ball in the red zone... literally the Bears... just did whatever they wanted... nothing that we have done all pre season would make a team shy away from any portion of their playbook... Not trying to push you off... but also I dont see a SB team with a pass rush as bad as our and run stopping as bad as ours and failure rate on 3rd and long as bad as ours... we were last in the league at forcing punts last year... -

I think this is right... our ability to get off the field in 3rd and long was not good enough... and I agree turnovers really did save us.. without those I am not sure we get the 2nd seed... bottom line all of us (or most of us minus the trolls) want a superbowl win.. we have lived our entire lives without one.. its easy to pick out flaws, much harder to correct... but the bottom line to me is this defense as it stands is soul sucking to watch, we can stat away, but we all know we dont get off the field, nor are we a feared defense ... can you imagine what that defense would rank if we had JP Losman, or Fitz, or Edwards, or Peterman or Manuel at the helm... with lots of quick 3 and outs... we shant forget the fact they have the benefit of Josh grinding 5,6,7 minutes off the clock in sustained drives while they are resting.. can you imagine if they were the Colts defense, or the Raiders, or the Jets... the "stats" would be atrocious... we need to be better... -

Here is the other thing... If you ever had a chance to play an aggressive defense, its when you have an offense that scores at will... what they are doing isnt working... if they beat you they beat you... let them do it in 2 minutes not 7.... cause they are beating you anyways... we literally forced the least punt on defense in the entire league tied with Carolina... that is atrocious. -
If you are cutting Hamlin, do it now...

I know but literally its all I got for keeping him... so there you go LOL but for the most part you are right, I have seen situations where knowing the system is helpful.. but bottom like is he knows it but cant execute it.. This is disturbing... and I did notice Buffalo Joe looked really bad yesterday... always seemed to be out of position. I honestly did not notice him... and with that defensive performance that is a really good thing. -

Yeah, I dont think Dane is long for this team... at best PS incase we have a major issue... Hamlin is just not a good saftey.. he knows the system... but we need an upgrade... I havent seen Forrest play.. I heard Hancock was being looked at as a saftey, bottom line is our DBs are not good... Iike to the point that you are thinking hmmmm... is Poyer an upgrade LOL whats Ronnie Lott doing now a days... can we get AJ Klein out of the RV and convert him to saftey... LOL... 🤣 -

I would go further... our secondary is just terrible (including our LBs in coverage) he is part of the problem. -
What one player acquired in a trade would guarantee a championship?

Parsons, Hutchison, Garret or Hendrickson... -

I literally said that above... I never thought I would long for the days of Leslie Frazier... but this guy is an abomination... -
Another one - Trey Hendrickson asks for a trade from Cincy

Ok so I am here... I get it is only pre season... I get that the defense is vanilla, I get our starters or some of them havent really played... I get that they don't game plan for preseason.. and mostly, I get that the results of the game don't count... but in some respect matter.... If I saw a competitive game where we lost.. then yeah, whatever... but when I watch pre season, I am looking for a couple of things.. 1. Who are the players that we brought in ( especially thru the draft) that pop... every team has them... the ones that you look at and go this guy gives us hope for the future, hope that we are upgrading our talent... not polished yet, but hey we got some one here. 2. That there is some level of change to a defensive unit that was legitimately bad, that a 2nd year coordinator learned some lessons and improved that maybe )see point 1) that those people that we invested all that draft capital in were going to help us... That maybe the pass rush improved, that maybe we wouldn't get gashed on the ground for 6 yards a pop, that maybe we would have someone within 30 yards of their best receiver on the field as if he actually mattered... maybe we could get off the field on 3rd down . not give up 3rd and long, understand that the soft zone coverage was soul sucking... What I saw was... no one and I mean no one on defense actually made a play. maybe Hancock.. no one even against Bears back ups pressured the QB, and those players we drafted, Jackson, Walker, Sanders showed me close to nothing against Bears backups, Hamlin and Bishop looked like keystone cops doing a fire drill we were hoping Bishop would progress even a little, the fact that Hamlin is still there is disturbing... wrong angles, bad tacking was rampant, and simply getting blown off the ball with very little penetration, gap integrity or disruption was rampant... we made Beasant look like a top 10 qb in this league... I saw no change from last years scheme, I saw the same gashing on the ground, the same bad tacking, the same soft zone, the same lack of pass rush, the same giving up 3rd and long etc.. I saw nothing that Babich did to show me that he learned some lessons... and I saw it two weeks in a row against two bottom feeding teams... Panic, no put 100% stock in it, no... call the season and the players a bust, no... but call it what it is... I see no signs of improvement, no signs that we have actually drafted players that are going to upgrade us especially on the D Line, no Free agents like Hoecht or whomever that are coming to save the pass rush, no signs that we have improved out horrific DB situation... maybe there is and i am missing it... but I sure as sh$t haven't seen it... what does that mean... well we wait, we see, we hope, but it just became very difficult to feel good about that hope realistically... things change, maybe this is all bunk, but from where I stand... my hope for improvement is pretty dim... time will tell. -
You can't it looks like the same old same old weak scheme no gap penetration, no pass rush soft coverage by calling minus dbs small line backers who get run over and a DL that is just the little bitc# of anyone that lines up in front of them why babich is here is beyond me I never thought I would long for Leslie Frasier but man ...
-
Good lord put White back in... or just punt on 1st down
-
My issue was with babich. If what you saw last year and for as unrealistic as it is the pre season is good to you then ok . To me what I saw last year and the similar scheme I see this year it isn't no more no less
-
Ok.. but its still the same old same old.. No pass rush, 7 yards on first down running, horrific pass coverage, and they walk up and down the field at will. The backups against their back up look like our starters against other starters. I question the defense and its co ordinator at least as much as the players so we can analyze the quality of backups and compare but the defense and result looks exactly the same . I truly understand your point but mine isn't really about the players its about their coach
-
Agreed we keep saying but its our back ups we'll its theirs too this defensive scheme and output seems the same to me... bleed your soul kiss your a$$ kicked watch them score grab your ankles and say thank you sir can I have another ... so i call it the thank you sir can I have another defense
-
Yes but they will also be counting on Babich and he has changed nothing this is a problem
-
He has got a ways to go to get to mediocre
-
Or literally not putting anyone within 15 or last play 30 yard of the best receiver on the field this isn't just the players
