Hard Knocks, Bengals watching the Chiefs/Broncos game
MikePJ76 replied to Just Jack's topic in The Stadium Wall
I would have been insufferable this week had we played the bengals and they got the extra day to prepare. the nfl can never allow this to happen again. -
Well it’s Thursday and I am even more nervous this morning. pass the Rolaids.

Actually he was. He was highly thought of in ny and then fassel scapegoated him. Then fassel bombed without him in 03 and was fired. He was a top candidate heading into the 05 season because of his closeness with Parcells. not sure why you think the saints job was bad. They had a stable front office and a very talented roster. What they needed was a young qb and someone to build an offense for him. Payton wanted Romo and offered a second to Dallas and Parcells said no before the 06 season. They ended up with Bree’s. What no one knew was how much like Parcells Payton was. Fassel portrayed him as a dunce that was holding him back and the reality was the opposite. Fassel was the product of two excellent coordinators. the saints 05 season was derailed by hurricane katrina but they had a talented group. Payton ran one of the toughest camps in the league before they changed the rules and the players loved him for it. New Orleans was absolutely not a bad job. That was a pretty talented roster. Good defensive group, outstanding rb group and a good offensive line plus a good kicker.

Joe Brady has been around Sean Payton. Once upon a time Sean Payton was the Ben Johnson/Joe brady of his time. Al Davis basically begged him to take the raiders job after the 04 season. Parcells convinced him it was a losing proposition. Payton returned to Dallas and Parcells named him assistant head coach and let him call plays in 2005. He then got the Saints job after the season. I imagine Brady is well aware of this. A young offensive minded coach going to the jets/saints/raiders right now seems like a situation where in 3 years you will have to prove your abilities again as an offensive coordinator. Those seem like places for veterans who understand the situation or defensive coaches where you can turn around a unit based on scheme alone really quick. Offense is totally different and you will now be in charge of everything plus be expected to maintain your offensive excellence. I feel pretty confident Brady is not going to want any of these current jobs sans new england. I don't think he will be a finalist there though.

Payton was suspended in 2012 and wasn't part of those two games. Does anybody have the pff all pro team list? I know that no bills made it but I haven't seen the full list

they will be able to go a little longer at another position if he is inactive sunday. It will be interesting to see where they do that. I wonder if that gets an extra linebacker to the active roster.

Going into the bottom of the fifth inning of game 5 of the world series this year, the yankees were winning big and about to make a series out of it and have all the momentum. Coming out of the break Suzyn Waldman whom I love on the radio said, Welcome to the bottom of the fifth where if you are just tuning in Gerrit Cole has a no hitter. Over the next 30 minutes I watched the worst inning of Yankees baseball I have seen in my life and I have been watching since 83. Don't be a Suzyn Waldman and put the maloik on the injury report. Side note, John Sterling and Suzyn Waldman dont believe in the jinx and always talk like this. They called a no hitter in Oakland in 2023 and talked about it the whole game. knock on wood there is a reason for an injury report to worry about next week

Pet Peeve. Defenses get Takeaways, Offenses commit turnovers. This is like when people say points in baseball.
-
Interesting to me. the final three games the bills came out and run halfback tosses to the left and right. I don’t think they ran a single one the whole year before the pats game. i wonder if that’s something they did to get on film to maybe set something up in the playoffs.

more importantly Jim Johnsons defense was a menace to the entire nfc. Go look at the Defensive staffs in those first 5-7 years in philly. They should have won a superbowl. Reid made lots of time management issues and refused to run the ball for a few years. this idea that reid was the goat when he was in philly is absolutely ridiculous. When Gibbs Parcells and Coughlin showed up in the division he lost his huge advantage he had. they spent years building towards 04 then they lost in the superbowl. Never really threatened to get there again except 08 and that team was not very good they just got to play a lousy giants team that self destructed after plaxico burress shot himself in a nightclub.
-
to be fair, Reid didn't have to play mahomes. He had a hard enough time beating Jake Delhomme, Brad Johnson and Kerry Collins.
-
they are entertaining. A guy just called and said the bills will play Baltimore unless seattle can beat them and then got all upset about where the ball is spotted if there is a 15 yard penalty at the 29. Day drinkers I guess?
-
The WGR calls on one bills live today. Good Lord.
-
Apparently it is. He has a hamstring injury and might not play Sunday. not great. Field position will be a huge issue Sunday.
-
Did something happen to Brandon codrington. I am watching the McDermott press conference and it starts abruptly with him talking about waiting on the medical staff and maybe having to make a move at kick returner? he played a lot of corner yesterday.
-
I’m going to go on record that Aaron Glenn takes the saints job and then Lou Anarumo takes the lions Defensive Coordinator job.
-
No one here should be talking about the ravens. This game this week is going to take every thing the bills have to win. They will probably need a bounce to go their way too. It’s going to be a battle Sunday and this team needs cooper to win it.
-
Cooper must have a sick family member. what else would keep him away from a playoff game. if there is some way he misses the game and the bills lose after giving up a top 100 pick for him, well don’t get me started. Hopefully his family and friends are ok and he is back on Wednesday.
-
the flip side of that is that had they lost to the cardinals, dolphins and colts they would have had winning records. none of that matters. Teams can only play their schedule. Everybody is 0-0 now.

My favorite Irish player ever.

The broncos are built kind of like the jags teams they struggled with the last couple years. Good wr, can run the ball with power and on the interior and have a mobile qb along with a good defense. I just can't shake the idea that Payton is going to come out in big sets and challenge Buffalo right away and see how physical they are and see if they stay in nickel. If the Bills can stop he may run the ball a ton and kill the bills with T.O.P. making each buffalo possession twice as important and making any mistakes or 3 and outs killers. on the flip side if buffalo stands up the running game and puts the game in nix's hands on third and long over and over in that environment there may be false starts, holds and some quick dumpoffs. Field Position, Playing with a lead and T.O.P. will be the key imo and it all starts with showing the broncos that they can handle the physicality up front in the running game. If Buffalo can't stop the run right up the gut in the A and B gap early we are going to be making diamonds out of coal.
-
Yes I know where Denver is. but I am wondering what is the coldest game they played this year? Was it yesterday?
-
Anyone know what the coldest game the broncos played in this year? They played the night game at Cincy and yesterday’s game at home. going to be like 25 ish Sunday.

He is busy please go away.
