Yea thats true. Manning was a big part of the losing though and I don't believe Allen is in any way. I mean I don't recall manning giving the colts the lead at the end of the game. Might have happened but I don't remember it. I do remember manning being confused and turning the ball over a lot though. I also remember manning complaining all offseason in 03 and 04 that the pats defense cheats and gets to hold longer than any other team. He specifically complained about their linebackers and safeties holding up their tight ends all the time. The league appeased him and really started emphasizing that 5 yard rule after that. Bernie Kosar on the other hand did give his team the lead late to which they blew it in 86, then byner fumbled in 87! Heartbreaking stuff like 13 seconds. I guess you could also make the case the Bills are in the same boat as the 90's Packers (most overrated team ever). They could not beat Dallas in the regular season or the postseason. They only won a superbowl in 96 because the niners had leveraged their future in 94 and then those guys walked and they weren't as good and because Dallas fired Jimmie Johnson or he quite whatever and Dallas limped into 96 with an old exhausted team with no head coach. The panthers knocked out Dallas for them and then GB killed them. Its like if Houston had Beat KC three weeks ago. Buffalo would have killed houston at home. Oh well. either way. I am going to be watching Barney Miller re runs or something sunday to avoid looking at andy reid's face.

Cool story. It sucks that allen tripped a wide open Amari Cooper on a perfect play call which caused him to gain 5 yards instead of probably north of 60. It also sucks that he knocked the ball away from Dalton Kincaid. I wish Allen didn't do those things in the game. Mac Jones is a free agent maybe they can get him in here.

Bills Hire Ryan Nielsen Senior Defensive Assistant.

side note to the discussion here but. I wonder if Nielsen will have a positive report on Jaguars Safety Andre Cisco. He is an undrafted free agent and played at SU. A 3 some of Rapp, Bishop, Cisco could be a good one. I mean its not a 3 some as good as like one with Tiffani Thiessen and Cindy Crawford...but it could be pretty good. Plus I guess add in Cam Lewis. He is a veteran that will have some idea of playing in buffalo and living in the climate, also a NY guy from Long Island. Getting a vet in that wont break the bank to go with Rapp and Bishop could maybe give them more options on draft day. Not that he or bishop or rapp should ever stop them from drafting a true difference maker if one is there when they pick in the top 100. just putting it out there. -
yea maybe we would be. What a thing to imagine being. The Bills could be multiple super bowl winners at this point. Same could be said of the 49ers I guess and maybe the eagles after sunday. We are to the chiefs at the moment as the Browns were to the bronco's in the 80s. It was just always something with the browns in those games.

not to be a jerk but I said back in september the only team good enough to beat the chiefs because of the way they play was Buffalo and that is because Allen overcomes all of it. Until he needs someone to step up on the defenisve side in the playoffs. that he can't overcome. If the eagles lose I will actually have been proven right for a change.

There is only one Allen. On paper this week The eagles offense is better than the chiefs defense and should win the matchup. On paper they should be able to throw the ball all over the field vs the chiefs nickel corner and linebackers. I guess we will see if they do. I doubt they will. Same is true on the other side of the ball. The eagles abilities rushing four should give them all kinds of advantages against a mostly short passing game and bad running game. But we all know how this goes.

That is 100% not true though. He was there for years and they blew game after game on defense. Finally after that pats game he was fired. If I remember correctly he was fired more because the players didn't believe in him and he essentially was fired for it. I guess what is similar is they had issues stopping the run and refused to not do what they always did.

Sorry about that. On the bright side, the Chiefs wont be on your tv playing football again for 7 months. -

Wasn't that already true though when he hired Babich over John Butler. I mean him and butler were High school teammates and have known each other forever. If McDermott wanted a puppet to do what he tells him and then take the fall when it fails that would seem like the perfect guy. He didn't go that route. Very true. hopefully they draft some excellent players for these guys to help grow like Brown and Dawkins. -
Yea I understand all of that and agree with you on the overall premise except I do think they have better defensive players. The thing is, doesn't every team have this issue when compared to the chiefs? It just sucks worse for us because we have to see them in the AFC playoffs. If the chiefs win sunday that means they beat all that magic with the eagles. The eagles replaced their coordinators. They changed. They drafted excellent players and have a defense that is so good up front they basically never ever blitz. so if the eagles lose, just like the 49ers last year aren't all these organizations in the same boat? The bills score more on the chiefs than anyone else regularly also. We know why that is. They have an amazing player. The 49ers have had outstanding defensive and THE offensive coach in the nfl. Lost to the chiefs twice and scored less than buffalo. They have excellent personnel on defense too. Just like our games with KC its a play here and there that cost them. I think we can all agree we need Andy Reid to retire and go away. That will solve Buffalo's problems. I would just like him to go away in general because he and his family suck monkey balls but that is a different thing.

you are talking about a single play or single formation. I was pointing out scheme. Anyone can run the same blitzes. Teams copy each other every week. Without the better players you can not have the same success. and again, if Cooper doesn't slip he is off to the races and spagnuolo's zero blitz gets wiped out. Maybe the bills win maybe they don't. It happens. Chiefs fans would have been screaming about the play and why did they gamble so big if they lost. But It doesn't matter, Cooper slipped and was caught from behind because of it so its another check mark for spagnuolo. The bills could have run the exact plays in the same situations and because of the personnel differences had completely different results to which I guarantee 90% of this place would be flipping out that they gave up a big play and gambled. -
I want them to draft better defensive players. I am sick of the same guys being injured every year and at critical times. I am most sick of the team having almost no ability to get to the quarterback while rushing four in these big games. Its feast or famine. Some weeks they look unblockable and other times, usually in the postseason they are on their heels and getting dictated to. I personally do not think its a matter of dialing up better blitzes. If that was the case the Ryan brothers would have the success spagnuolo has had. I mean the Giants and Bears blitzed a ton this year and they were not very good. Maybe the bigger issue is as you said Mcdermott and his philosophy, after all Andy Reid had two guys on his eagles staff that worked under Jim Johnson. One he fired for postseason failure and the other he rehired as DC and has a bunch of rings because of it. The Bills hired the former.

well because his name came up in this thread already, Spagnuolo was a disaster in St.louis and seems to be fine in KC. He is a defensive line coach at heart. He has helped/coached/ been a part of some good groups in his stops in atlanta and new orleans. He is here to help coach the Defensive line. also, Mcdermott and or beane seem to really like what payton did with his staff in new orleans since a number of them keep ending up here. So maybe there is something specific that Nielsen does well with lineman that Beane/mcdermott like and want him to coach here as senior defenisve assistant. Or maybe he just missed getting up in the morning and not being around someone named Josh Allen. Anything is possible -

that isn't a way to judge a coach honestly. especially when he has not been hired to be the defensive coordinator. -

is this a serious post? You think that is grounds for firing a Defensive coordinator in his second year? -
I understand your point of view, I really do and I am all for an aggressive defense and actually prefer to the general style mcdermott brought here. However. If you watch this team every week you will, well maybe you won't but I will and did get the sense that they play a certain way to mitigate risk because they can not succeed doing those things regularly. They don't have the horses for that race. I mean when Von Miller and Groot just keep giving up the edge 1 second after the ball is snapped while playing man I would say that is a bigger issue than taking risks. Maybe those guys should not have been just leaving the edge completely open seemingly every other down throughout the game. Von Miller spinning into nothing and leaving a gap is about as bad a play as the defense can make. That's not scheme, that is on the player. If the Bills ran an aggressive blitz heavy defense and in the process start giving up as many big plays as they make people would be losing their mind because guys got left on an island to cover insert wr here. There are two sides to this pancake. and again, Improve the personnel and you improve the defense. The scheme will be secondary when we have legitimate pass rushers and other players who have to be schemed for. Not a single player on the Bills defense creates a situation where the other offense has to scheme to stop him. So KC for instance can run blitzes overloaded to one side, zero pressures with 7 or 8 guys coming right up the middle because they have great players on all 3 levels of defense that have to be accounted for. So when the line is looking to keep help with jones and trying to stay away from mcduffie the chiefs already have an advantage. The bills had Rapp and Benford out of the game and Von Miller running himself out of plays on every other snap. Its just simply not apples and oranges.
-
maybe he doesn't trust guys to get home? Did you watch hamlin and johnson blitz this year? I can see williams, benford and bernard but the other guys don't seem to get there. Did you want Rasul douglas blitzing in critical situations in that game? If Cooper doesn't slip on the third down play the Bills would have beat Spagnuolo's blitz and had the lead and mabye won the game. The Bills brought pressure this year more than any previous year I can remember. No matter what anyone tells me I believe it is personnel. Improve the personnel, improve the defense.

There are only a few defenses you can run in the real world. Its not as complicated as so many people make it seem. The Bills do not have an X's and O's problem. They have a Jimmy and Joe's problem. This offseason will hopefully take care of that for the most part. -
I guess the bills are sort of on the east coast.

no one who watches football does but the non football people do. There have been some great ones.
