You won’t get too many Bills fans to agree to this. Because if this is the case (and it is) that would mean Mahomes is the difference in Reid’s career turnaround. We can’t have that around here because it would diminish our qb in a mental gymnastic kind of way. So the majority here will say it’s all Reid for Mahomes’ success. Allen would’ve gotten 6 rings (yes this has been posted here) if he’s with KC. The truth is Reid was viewed as a coach that couldn’t win the big one. A coach that didn’t know how to manage the clock late in games. A coach that was nowhere near best of all time status. It is also true that he’s a great offensive coach and can get the best out of his players. He has gotten the best out of Mahomes. Would Mahomes be as successful if he didn’t ended up with KC? I’d say not 3 SB out of 5 years successful but definitely would have a ring by now no matter where he landed. Mahomes is that special. No matter how good a coach is he can’t turn anyone into what Mahomes is currently. That has to be from the player. That’s not a slight on Allen at all. He is also special. I don’t get why some people have a problem with greatness when it isn’t from a Bill. But whatever. Let’s beat them one of these years dammit!

100%. I’d be surprised if they didn’t discussed this stuff on that final drive. But ultimately Allen has the trigger. If you haven’t seen the video of Brady talking to Allen about the merits of taking the easy plays go check it out. Allen’s expression on that video shows he doesn’t buy into that way of playing the game. We can only hope that his offseason would be spent partly dissecting and improving on this stuff.

Ok let’s go with that. He could’ve given himself a better throw to connect. The only pressure was from Chris Jones. Let’s say he stepped up and connected. TD with almost 2 minutes left and 2 TO for KC. Do you think we’re winning that game seeing KC’s run through the playoffs? That’s what I’m saying about making decisions that give your team the best chance of winning. Take the short. Pick up the first. KC would be forced to use their timeouts. Then use your heroics for the TD with little time left. You’re guaranteed a tie at worst. That’s the game awareness that great QBs need to be concerned with.

100% this! It’s not like McD is an all world coach but he is a good coach. The reason the Bills have not been more successful is not solely on him. The roster needs to get younger. That would help with injuries issues. Also a part of the equation that 90% of people on here won’t acknowledge is Allen needs to be better. We see Mahomes run to pick up a first in the most pressured situations time and time. Or toss a short conversion when the game is on the line to win the game. Now correlate that to all the times we see Allen do similar things and in most people’s minds it’s ’Allen can do all that. Probably better. So why can’t we win a superbowl? Must be the coach’ The problem is when pressure is at its most Allen still needs improvement doing the mundane. It’s the mental aspect of the game that most refuse to see his shortcomings. On that last drive against KC he fumbled trying to fight for extra yards instead of going down. Just because a 4th round rookie db tried to scoop it instead of jumping on it people just forget it happened. Then of course later in the drive making the wrong choice to throw to the endzone. Even with that throw he could’ve slid a little to the right or up in the pocket and gotten a clean throw. These are the things that makes Allen a step behind Mahomes. The little things that wouldn’t matter who the coach is. I hope Allen would spend the offseason evaluating and improving this part of his game.

I remember the media would be incessant about Reid’s clock management in big games. It’s funny how that whole narrative has disappeared since Mahomes. No matter how brilliant a coach is he’d still need the right players to execute his visions. Players (especially QBs) will always be more important than the coach. It’s already proven with Brady and Belichick.

Most people know this. But not too many in that group want to accept it. It’s much more palatable to provide ‘reasons’ than to say Bills weren’t good enough 3 out of 4 years against KC when it mattered. The only time it didn’t happened was when the two didn’t meet. Bills gotta find a way to get it done next year because this has become a major roadblock to the superbowl.

Surprisingly accurate lol

Well for me it was in direct response to the previous post about our healthy defense ‘handling’ KC in that game. My point was not really. And to a wider point those regular season games don’t amount to much at all. Playoff games are where it matters. Yeah sure. Coin flip in all the games but one side won them all (playoffs) and has all the trophies. So yes close but no cigars as they say.

KC was a boneheaded penalty away from winning that regular season game. Also seeing how things have played out KC has another gear in the playoffs that Bills have yet to match. Could a healthy Bills D slowed them down this time? Maybe. But more likely not. As KC played a better (and healthy) defense in Baltimore the week after then yet again another better ranked defense in SF to win the Lombardi. So lament all you want about what could should would. KC has proved that they can beat anyone in the playoffs. Bills need to raise their game to that level otherwise the trophy case will remain empty.

KC will be WR shopping. Higgins and Evans are the top free agents. I don’t think KC would, or could, pay for those guys. Davis would be a replacement for MVS. Same type of money I bet.

I obviously don’t pay as much attention to KC as you do. From the way you make it sound FAU must be a bust. Imagine spending a 1st round draft pick and have him not contribute in any meaningful way. He didn’t see the field because Omenihu and Dana were tearing it up. My comment was a compliment to the Chiefs organization for having such quality backups. Why are you so defensive? Your team just won back to back. How would you be able to handle losing if you’re this sensitive when winning?

Omenihu is third in sacks behind Jones and Karlaftis. That’s despite missing 6 games due to suspension. He was one of their big offseason acquisition. Definitely more than depth. Somehow they had a 1st round pick to replaced him in the Superbowl. Why can’t Bills have that kind of luxury? Smh.

I was responding to the comment about NFL injuries in general. As long as the QB is healthy there’s still a chance to salvage the season. As for the divisional game…of course it would’ve been better without all the defensive injuries. Not sure how much they could slow down KC though. Their offense always seem to find a way. Bills offense was relatively healthy and they were in position to win at the end. Just couldn’t get it done.

It depends on who is injured. Outside of losing your franchise qb teams will still find ways to compete and win. That’s the NFL in a nutshell. Some teams have even won Superbowls despite losing their QBs.

For sure. The TOP was huge. Playing keep away and methodically working down the field was brilliant. Hopefully Brady uses this strategy next year against them. A few plays going Bills way like you said and hopefully different outcome.

KC made the #1 defense in Superbowl 54 looked bad. They shredded to Eagles #1 defense in last year’s Superbowl. Then this Superbowl, with a lackluster offense, they again scored on one of the top defenses. I’m starting to think it really doesn’t matter how good a team’s defense is when they play Mahomes and the Chiefs in the playoffs. They’re going to score. So it’s up to the offense to out score them. Can’t rely on defensive stops.

KC lost Nadi in the WC round. Lost Thunny in the Divisional round. Then lost Omenihu in the Championship round. I think those were significant starters yet they found a way to win it all. It is what it is.
