Elon Musk appreciation thread
rusty shackleford replied to Big Blitz's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
The street should be worried about a lot more than Musk; there’s been a lot of cracks in the wall for awhile now that have been ignored. TSLA has been diving down… but it still is trading at a P/E of ~110. Despite what the former Tesla bulls proclaimed, it’s just a car company (and a struggling one at that). It should be trading at normal auto P/E range of 5 - 10, which would put it closer to a $20 stock. Lots of room for the bottom to drop out… but it was the devote climate change believers that drove it up to that price to begin with. -
The irony of this cannot be understated. The people doing this are also the ones that were Tesla customers just a few years, if not months ago. Without their support in the name of climate change, Tesla would not have survived to the point of profitability (and a huge overvaluation of its stock price). The boycotts from buying Tesla cars can be an effective form of protest; but then turning around and torching Tesla inventory is counter productive to that. Tesla would have been hurt worse financially from having unsold inventory sitting around on lots or sold at a deep discount from plummeting demand. Instead the company will recoup full value through insurance all while giving their "cause" a black eye.

Bean, go all in on Metcalf. Bean: best I can do is Shenault.

Indeed there are a lot of things that are ending up looking very similar. Following that sudden market drop and recovery last summer, markets really rallied. Helped by the Fed rate cut, then again with the optimism around the Trump victory. Of course, back in 2007/2008 there was a real catalyst to make the bubble pop and the bottom drop out; starting with the garbage MBS's and impact to the investment banks. So far in 2025, there hasn't been much tangible reasons to the market pullback; just uncertainty around tariffs and other policies. The market does hate uncertainty though, so hopefully concrete direction there will settle things a bit. Also, there has never been a time where a recession wasn't preceded by an inverted yield curve. The rate curve was inverted for over two years and snapped back to positive just a few months ago (depending on your choice of the 2yr/10yr or the 3mo/10yr view). Although, that doesn't spell certainty of a looming recession, it doesn't give a great feeling, all things considered. Oh, and those bad monthly jobs reports we saw all last year with constant downward revisions after the fact, with a lot being in the public sector, doesn't help.

If you are only 45, have 15 more years of work, and actively contributing to your 401K, you shouldn't be focused on how short term spikes or dips impact your retirement account. It will only lead to more anxiety in either direction. Best to just keep contributing your normal amount and lower you average cost basis when things are down. In 15 years, the big picture will be a lot different... can't draw on it until at least 59 1/2 without major penalties anyways.

That's how I've been thinking about that draft for awhile. Doesn't really matter who was 1st or 5th as long as one of them turned out to be your guy (except for the whole 1st round 5th year option thing).

Trump's State of the Union Address 2025
rusty shackleford replied to B-Man's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Sure, I don’t disagree with your comment that your opinion of American independents on the political page of a Buffalo Bills discussion forum won’t make any difference… but I think that my original comment that the public perception of the Democrat members of our government that just alienated all but their closest members of their base on live TV is a bad look… and not good for their party moving forward -

I’m not sure who “you guys” is supposed to refer to. You seem to be highly concentrated on Trump’s junk though, which is odd. I don’t think calling the political middle of the road folks as morons is the way back to winning those swing states. Good luck. -

*through… people saw through enough lies and bull ***** to re-elect him… it took a lot more than “MAGA” (whatever the hell that means) to achieve that. -
Trump's State of the Union Address 2025

He just gave the record longest speech to joint congress. Democrats couldn’t even clap for the layup non partisan segments for the honorary recognition of sick kids, murdered college students, service members, and prosecution of criminals… at the end of the day, who really looks like *****? -

The Dems can’t even stand up for the brain cancer kid because Trump is talking… and they wonder why they lost. -
Just wait until it becomes self aware and starts doing that to people in real life.

I haven't messed with any of the settings since they set it up for me. They thought it was going to be a quick 1 hour type thing, but then took all day to get it where it is now... and it's actually not that much better that what I was able to do just with an SPL meter, test tones, adjusting the phase and delay on each sub then running Audyssey in the processor (and they actually confirmed that, comparing to the "before" measurements they took). They ended not even charging me for the time spent, just for the processor... I bought a lot of stuff through them over the years though. At my old house, I had a large ported SVS sub right behind the couch with the back wall just another foot away... That created some good tactile feel to the bass, especially in a more closed off living room, but not too much far off what I'm getting in my home theater now... especially considering it is ~1,200 sq ft open floor plan with high ceilings.
-
Yeah allocating a good amount of total budget to the subs always pays off. I'm running 3 SVS SB4000's. The only real upgrade I've considered is a 4th sub to position one in each corner for a bit better balance (currently 2 up front flanking the front speakers and 1 in the center back). I have the 3 subs running though a miniDSP processor. I had the Speaker Shop come out to calibrate them... ended taking all day to get it right. I'm running a combination of Parasound, Emotiva, and Outlaw amps controlled by a now aging (and a possible upgrade area) Marantz pre/pro (but all its features and codecs are still current). I still need to finish the non home theater area of my basement with a bar/lounge area. If anything, I would rather spend money completing the whole basement project then upgrading equipment for awhile. I have actually been floating the idea of upgrading my living room system as I've been spending a lot more time there than the home theater lately. I replaced a dying 65 inch Panasonic plasma with a new 77 inch LG OLED recently and have been casually watching there instead of the basement. It would be nice to get rid of my large Outlaw sub in the living room and upgrade my bookshelves to full range towers... but that would also mean upgrading from my Denon receiver to something with a lot more oomph.
