The Chiefs are always one step ahead of the Bills...
UKBillFan replied to Awwufelloff's topic in The Stadium Wall
The issue isn't getting Josh in 2018. The Bills lucked out with that; can you imagine how much worse it would be if they chose Rosen from that spot? McBeane would probably be gone for a start. The problem was trading with the Chiefs to give them Mahomes. If he'd gone to the NFC things could be very different. -
Depends who replaced him. If it's Josh, Lamar, Burrow or Daniels, with Reid's play calling, it's still a dangerous one. I'm not denying Mahomes isn't a great. Just there isn't a vast difference between him and Josh. Unfortunately the biggest deficit Josh has as a person over Mahomes is his nerves. Sometimes they can take over and, being so reliant on him on offense, it can hurt the Bills badly.

Worthy torched the defense yesterday. If we stretch to receivers also including tight ends - Kelce? Though the Bills seem to play him well for some reason. Perhaps that leads to others being able to separate.
-
So it's quite difficult to say either way whether Mahomes is vastly better than Josh. Mahomes has the benefit of an O Line (albeit so did the Bills... until yesterday), receivers, coaching and a defense to keep the Chiefs in games if the offense isn't clicking - see the regular season.

Hard to beat the Chiefs and the refs every post-season
UKBillFan replied to ChronicAndKnuckles's topic in The Stadium Wall
I try not to go down conspiracy theories, but the refs were really favoring the Chiefs yesterday and, in a three point game that's key. Twice the Chiefs were in the neutral zone (one of the two point conversions and *that* 4th down) but no infraction called. The constant spotting the ball short, which cost the Bills severely in the end, though hated the sneak call which put it in the officials hands. But Kincaid seemed to have the first before that. The Worthy 'catch' though, of course, a flag had been thrown anyway so the Chiefs would have got something either way Hamlin being called for taunting when it was led by Kelce Why did the flag suddenly disappear after Kincaid dropped the ball? The punt return with two holds and a block in the back? No, that's fine, carry on. The facemask call on Elam. Did the Bills have one controversial call favour them? The Bills had issues with play calls and executions throughout the evening, there is no denying that. But in a close game one of these decisions would have an impact. How many do we have here. Eight, nine, ten? All favoring the Chiefs. -
I think Josh perhaps needs to see a sports psychologist to try and calm him down in big games and the Bills need to strengthen the roster so everything isn't on him. It felt like they'd managed that with the development of Cook, so why did they abandon that and make it seem like Superman Josh was required early yesterday? It was so bizarre to see, even taking into account the Bills have been slow out of the gate for a while now.
-
I absolutely disagree and I think that's part of the problem. He was so wound up on the first drive yesterday that's why he made the errors. He wasn't locked in but it wasn't because he didn't care. If anything, he cared too much and let his emotions take over.

Plus, we want to give Beane's three firsts? He's hardly great with top of the draft. The Bills would be better off with a bunch of picks from round four.
-
True. Like Hail Mary's ever work against the Bills...
-
I think the defense (and/or special teams) would let the Chiefs march down the field for another TD if there was more than ten seconds left on the clock.
-
The Chiefs had only scored 30 once in regulation all season. So, yes, letting them score 32 is hardly impressive. Whereas the Chiefs have only allowed one team to score more than 27 on them in the same time period, excluding the week 18 backup blowout. And the majority of those points were Josh making superb plays with very little support mainly, as you say, down to play calls but also execution.
-
The defense made key stops when needed. What did the Bills defense do? Like when they had the chance to get the offense off the field on three and out at the end? The game wasn't necessarily over on the Kincaid drop until the Chiefs exposed the weaknesses once again, like they have done before. Like so many teams have before. I do think Josh is partially responsible for yesterday. He wasn't at his very best, but it's hard to be against a defense as strong as the Chiefs. The fact the Bills got to 29 has a lot to do with him; most other teams would have been blown out on yesterday's performance on defense and offense. And that's why I believe he should be near the bottom of the list when it comes to blame.

Josh said it was on him in the interview.
-
Well he was running for his life because he was fooled. But... the drop is horrible from the angle. It has to be taken.

Still cracks me up that we gave Mahomes to the Chiefs
UKBillFan replied to Steptide's topic in The Stadium Wall
Houston because of Diggs. Yesterday because of the prize. From the second drive onwards he had settled but a lack of run game in the first half is a concern nonetheless. -
And yet it should be questioned why KC only had three. It would have been two had Mahomes not inexplicably fumbled the ball. Their defense is stronger than the Bills; faster, stronger, the O Line completely disappeared. Switch the QBs and Mahomes would have been running for his life whilst Josh would have had more time. With the closeness in the scores, I don't think it's a reach to say it would be Josh going to the SB with the Chiefs and Mahomes sitting at home.

Reid eased Mahomes into the game with easy passes and a run game. Where was it with Josh? I can only think Cook had an injury issue, the lack of use last night. He was toasting them when he had the chance. -
In all seriousness, I think Josh was good enough last night, excluding the opening drive. I acknowledge he came out badly, and it was a shame because I thought that had been sorted. But at the same time, there was no run game or easy pass to help settle him (see the start of the Chiefs first drive to assist Mahomes). The run game didn't make a true appearance until the third quarter. Question one, where as it, followed by... why persist with the QB sneaks? But he did enough to move the chains. He did enough to win. Opposite a far better defense than Mahomes was facing. With far fewer options than Mahomes had. He got us within three. If Kincaid or Samuel could catch, maybe things would be different. Was he at his best? No. Did he play well enough to win considering the inbalance on both sides of the ball? Yes. How often do we see QBs play at their very best against this Chiefs defense?
-
OK. So Josh was good and got the Bills to within three. If he was great, they would have one by at least a score then. If he was MVP level it would have been a blow out. 50-32 maybe. If only.
-
To be honest it's the response of fans who are laying it at Josh's door which make me want him to be traded. If we can't be grateful to have one of the best QBs in the game, and who hardly let the team down yesterday, then send him to a franchise who would be.
-
So Josh was average yet got the Bills to within three? If he was good, they would have one by at least a score then. If he was MVP level it would have been a blow out. 50-32 maybe. If only.

I was trying to draw up a reply but you did it for me. Does anyone honestly think Josh would have looked so flustered against the Bills defense? And vice versa. As you say, when Mahomes was put under pressure he looked anything but cool.
