I have very often been critical of Sullivan on this forum so just wanted to say that I was very impressed with his article today. I enjoyed the read.

I know what you mean - his first 4 years body of work was unimpressive to say the least in the secondary. However, I thought he began to play much better toward the end of last year and has been great so far in the first two games. He did a tremendous job on Steve Smith yesterday. He broke up passes, tackled soundly when he did not break it up, and generally frustrated Smith and Newton all day. 5 catches for Smith - great job. Had to be targeted 3X that much. What scares me is the other side without Gilmore and Brooks. A good QB and receiver would have eaten them alive on that side. They were fortunate Ginn had only one long touchdown - he was always open.

Buffalo News reporting Byrd wants traded by Oct. 29 deadline
FLFan replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Just saw on the ESPN crawl that Byrd says he played through the PF last year, but this year he needs to be 100%. If that proves to be an accurate quote, then I would say there is little lingering doubt that Byrd is simply dogging it to make a point and I hope it backfires on him big time.. -
You are way off base. It is a bit early to hit the panic button. Take your medication.

Thanks for posting. Guaranteed the only thread I will read today. I was very impressed with the Defense overall - solid hitting, agressive, pressured Brady. Good effort and a sign of good things to come. Obviously a very vanilla offensive plan. I thought Manuel looked good for the most part although the deep balls were disappointing. A very winnable game, but too many stupid mistakes to win. A very disappointing loss but I am encouraged. this team will grow from here.

I think that is the same injury Jairus Byrd has

Predictions - Bills v. New England*

Upset of the week. -
Geno Smith does not the media to make him look bad. He does that all by himself. No media conspiracy necessary.

Buffalo News reporting Byrd wants traded by Oct. 29 deadline
FLFan replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is off the current discussion thread a little, so sorry about that, but I find it interesting that the Toronto Sun has a story quoting Byrd as squelching the trade desire rumors, while the Buffalo media braintrust has nothing to say about that. Just interesting is all. Carry on. -
I happened to catch him on NFL Network yesterday. His profile seems to be rising but I cannot figure out why. He had absolutely nothing remotely insightful to say. Arrogant twit.

Buffalo News reporting Byrd wants traded by Oct. 29 deadline
FLFan replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Exactly how I feel. As for the "news" that Parker is trying to orchestrate a trade, what exactly did anyone expect? This is his MO, and since it has worked with the Bills before, he is trying it again. This is more of a media story, and paranoia of the fans, than anything else right now, I think. I expect that when the bullets start flying Byrd will be on the field and playing hard. If not, you would have to seriously question his character, and I do not expect it. We will see. I did not realize that. Too bad. Good as gone, now that he finally seems to be ready to play to his potential. -

I agree. This is happening because Parker got the Bills to buckle with Peters employing the same tactics. The Bills also buckled with Clements, agreeing not to franchise him the following year. -
No question. I am not worried about the offense - all about the defense keeping it close.
-
They did address the other corner in the offseason - they resigned McKelvin - who actually looked pretty good toward the end of last year when he got back in the DB line up. It hurts having Gilmore out no doubt, but I do not expect Pettine to adjust his style and plays the CB's "10 yards off". They will be pressing and physical. Brooks can hit and is faster than any of the Patriots receivers. The key will be covering Amendola - besides that they have no one to be afraid of. Lets see how Danny Boy does after getting rocked a few times. I am quite sure the game plan will be to hit their receivers often and hard. No comparison to any of the previous defensive coaches we have had.
-
It is my understanding that this problem can only be diagnosed via the symptoms reported. That is why this is an awfully convenient injury to have if your intent is not to play. I guess we will see, but I tend to think it will be fine by the end of December.

(Update) Jim Leonard back in Buffalo
FLFan replied to RayFinkle's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Skins had no choice. They were/are in salary cap jail because of the punishment for abusing the system during the strike year. They had no money to sign anyone of any serious note so keeping their mostly washed up players was the best they could do. -
You know, the average poster would get banned for this type of crap. You get a pass I am sure because you have 6,000 plus posts. Does not make you right.

Perhaps we can wait to find out what is really going on before we declare them a Micky mouse organization.

Stevie Johnson: Pats can't 'stop me'
FLFan replied to Stevie's Johns0n's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The current Pats receivers are lucky to be playing in the NFL. If anyone other than Brady were the QB, you could could completely ignore the Patriots passing game at this point. -
(Update) Jim Leonard back in Buffalo
FLFan replied to RayFinkle's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree Wilson had a great year two years ago. He clearlly hit a wall last year and in my opinion, is done. Arguing which player between Leonard and Wilson is more done, is kind of pointless. I think this is a good depth, short term solution, and Leonard will add Some energy if not great talent. As for Wilson, glad he is gone. -
Perspective, Eagles top 3 picks from 2011 are off the team
FLFan replied to FireChan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Your memory fails you. In his rookie season, he hardly played for he first half and was worked in later in the year due to injuries. He actually looked good in his limited opportunities creating much optimism. He obviously struggled last year, but let's not overdo the hyperbole. Most draft observers had him slotted at safety coming out of college. If you can point to some specific failure in that role during the Pre- season speak up. -
I suspect Rogers is someone they viewed with potential but would take a long time to mature, if ever. As for Kaufman, Streeter is the same height, a little bit bulkier build, and much faster. Ran a 4.4. Speed is what Marrone and Hacket are all about.

Good point on Wood. Also have to think the risk to wait would be weighed heavily by him. None the less, it does take two to make a deal which is my primary point. The player needs to be motivated to want to get a deal done. I do not believe in the take it or leave school of negotiating. Bad for business in the long term.
