Ingram and Isabella elevated from Practice Squad for Eagles game
JohnNord replied to Draconator's topic in The Stadium Wall
Last time Isabella was called up everyone assumed he’d be involved and I think he ended up playing special teams. With Dane Jackson out, I could see the same scenario play out. Then again we have a new OC who showed a willingness utilize different players in the offense. It’s not impossible to think he could be in on a few plays like Johnson last week. I think Ty Johnson is keeping him on the PS. He plays special teams and also has shown an ability to pitch in on offense -
Jim Kelly as QB really hurt the Bills toward the end of 1995 and 1996. During this time his body was breaking down but he was tough (and stubborn) as hell and stuck it out. In 1996, he was especially bad. The Bills defense during these years was probably the most talented unit Kelly ever teamed with. Unfortunately, the offense hit a lull around this time. Never appreciated him as a kid but he has a very cool announcer voice.

Really good game for von to become von again
JohnNord replied to John from Riverside's topic in The Stadium Wall
Everyone is frustrated with Von. Instead of being the “closer” he’s now struggling to beat 3rd string tackles one-on-one. Like we saw with Tre, it sometimes takes a defensive player a full season after they return to get back to their old form. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see don’t see flashes of “the old Von” until next season -
BUY Kincaid! Philly biggest weakness early in the season was their inside backers. They’ve prayed that a castaway like Myles Jack would work out (he didn’t) and now they want in on Shaq Leonard. Result is a defense that struggles badly to defending TE’s. The strength of their defense is a super physical DL. I think a key part of the game plan might be getting the ball to Kincaid and Cook to beat pressure. Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if Lenny is up this week.

Ok so…explain how Knox has “not been the same?” Because to me, he seems to be the same player he’s been since 2021. Much like Gabe, I do feel the Bills hoped he’d take a bigger step forward. It hasn’t happened. But there’s no evidence to say it’s related to his brother.
-
Ok explain how he hasn’t been himself…because his output in 2021 essentially matched 2022. This season he’s dropped passed but I don’t think you can say that’s related his brother. Omelette insensitive
-
I think it’s pretty crappy to say that Knox’s play has anything to do with his late brother. His stats in 2021 and 2022 are basically identical sans a few touchdown receptions. He’s dropped some big passes this season but I’m not sure whether that’s related to the wrist injury that put him on IR. Regardless, unless Brady can figure out how to make 12 personnel work, Knox is in a bit of a weird position when he returns. The offense functions better with Kincaid at TE, but Knox’s contract makes it near impossible to move on in 2024. So at worst, he’s a highly paid TE2

And they will. WR2 was the biggest question going into the offseason. I don’t think it happened for a few reasons. First the Bills love Gabe and truly had hoped his inconsistent 2022 was related to the ankle injury. Second, they knew the team was likely out of range to land one of the top WR’s in the draft. Third, the team had limited cap space and needs at a few positions. They thought money was better spent on a player like McGovern. Basically they put a lot of faith in Gabe to take the next step it never happened.
-
I don’t think anyone doubted his ability. The question was whether he could be an effective WR2 on a full time basis. We’ve seen it in flashes but never consistently. In the end, I think he answered the question for him. He can be a good receiver that can help an offense but is probably not consistent enough to be a big-time WR2

AFC East Miami Dolphins (7-3) @ New York Jets(4-6) Friday 3pm FOX
JohnNord replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall
This game was disgusting for NYJ. It’s been a while since I’ve seen a QB play so poorly. To be fair Douglas and Saleh put all of their eggs in the Rodgers basket which dictated a lot of really bad choices that screwed them over - namely Hackett, Lazard, Cobb, Boyle and Cook. Sadly, they are stuck with several of these people next season. I get that Zach Wilson has been a disappointment but they probably fare better with him or Simian as QB. -
Outlook on McDermott if we turn it around
JohnNord replied to Mikie2times's topic in The Stadium Wall
This is what I’ve always said. If you want McDermott to be fired, you should hope they lose out. The more losses would increase the likelihood of him getting fired. Although, he re-signed this summer, so there’s a chance it might not make a difference. -
Rodgers feels guilt over Wilson situation
JohnNord replied to BillsFan619's topic in The Stadium Wall
100% this is exactly about attention. Wilson is in his 3rd season when a QB is supposed to break out. Rodgers damn well knows sitting on the bench wouldn’t make a damn difference -
Im sure throwing players or coaches under the bus would do wonders for morale

Check out this tweet from Channel 4’s Josh Reed: https://x.com/4joshreed/status/1716620665220907436?s=46&t=8ZEIwokTeanemk54SQ608g “I can’t believe we are at this point but… If the Bills don’t win Thursday they may be active at the trade deadline but at 4-4 and with Cincy, Philly, KC, Miami to go, maybe they’re not buyers.” This is an interesting scenario because we’ve talked a lot of trading for players to “save” the season at the deadline. But I do t think you do this unless you really believe you have a team that can go all the way. So if the injured are defense are deemed too much do the Bills run a one-week fire sale for players on expiring contracts like Davis, Epinesa…maybe a Ryan Bates, in an attempt to recoup picks to re-load for next season? This is why IMO the NFL hasn’t extended the trade deadline a bit later. They don’t want to give teams the options to do this. I personally don’t believe the Bills feel that at 4-4, the season is finished. It wouldn’t be impossible for a playoff spot and I don’t think you sacrifice your chance at playoffs in week 9.

If Dorsey needs to be fired - McD needs to go
JohnNord replied to Big Blitz's topic in The Stadium Wall
Not sure what you mean with people being comfortable in their jobs. I don’t think anyone is comfortable, I’m just stating what the facts are and all lead to the fact that it’s a damn near certainty McDermott won’t get fired. Not saying it’s Johnson but using him as an example of a up-and-coming OC with zero evidence that he’s guaranteed to be a good coach. It’s like the drought mentality “fire ______ because it can’t possibly be worse.” We’ve seen that it can -
If Dorsey needs to be fired - McD needs to go
JohnNord replied to Big Blitz's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think this offseason was always going to be the year where they re-tooled a bit - Super Bowl or no Super Bowl. There is an out in Tre White’s contract and I feel this will be exercised after this season. I agree that the Bills will move on from Poyer and probably Hyde too. Von Miller won’t go anywhere unless he retires. He’s on the books for one more season until they have an out. Same with Diggs Davis, Epinesa, and a lot of the DL depth are probably gone. So over the next few seasons we’re looking at replacing a lot of veteran players. -
If Dorsey needs to be fired - McD needs to go
JohnNord replied to Big Blitz's topic in The Stadium Wall
A few things that people don’t consider when they make statement like this: - McDermott and Beane signed a 3 year extension this offseason and are under contract until 2027. - Terry would need to buy out 4 years of his contract, as well as hire a new HC. - From a pure business standpoint, under McDermott the Bills have performed well by almost every metric except winning the SB. They have four very successful, winning seasons, not the case with the Sabres. - Terry respects and admire Sean and has given him a tremendous amount of power and autonomy around OBD. - Everyone wants to talk about Denver firing John Fox for Gary Kubiak. It was a huge gamble that worked for Denver. Firing Marty didn’t help SD take the next step. Besides these moves don’t happen much. In the end, there is zero doubt in my mind that even after a 7-10 finish, McDermott would get a chance in 2024. I think Terry believes he’s earned that -

There is a ton of revisionist history in this thread. Who is the elite HC and OC that you want to hire? They don’t grow on trees. Some people here assume that a “hot” coordinator like Ben Johnson in Detroit is the answer. We have no clue he’d be as HC - he has zero experience. He also scored 6 points in a huge game versus Baltimore.
