If Dorsey needs to be fired - McD needs to go
JohnNord replied to Big Blitz's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think this offseason was always going to be the year where they re-tooled a bit - Super Bowl or no Super Bowl. There is an out in Tre White’s contract and I feel this will be exercised after this season. I agree that the Bills will move on from Poyer and probably Hyde too. Von Miller won’t go anywhere unless he retires. He’s on the books for one more season until they have an out. Same with Diggs Davis, Epinesa, and a lot of the DL depth are probably gone. So over the next few seasons we’re looking at replacing a lot of veteran players. -

A few things that people don’t consider when they make statement like this: - McDermott and Beane signed a 3 year extension this offseason and are under contract until 2027. - Terry would need to buy out 4 years of his contract, as well as hire a new HC. - From a pure business standpoint, under McDermott the Bills have performed well by almost every metric except winning the SB. They have four very successful, winning seasons, not the case with the Sabres. - Terry respects and admire Sean and has given him a tremendous amount of power and autonomy around OBD. - Everyone wants to talk about Denver firing John Fox for Gary Kubiak. It was a huge gamble that worked for Denver. Firing Marty didn’t help SD take the next step. Besides these moves don’t happen much. In the end, there is zero doubt in my mind that even after a 7-10 finish, McDermott would get a chance in 2024. I think Terry believes he’s earned that -

There is a ton of revisionist history in this thread. Who is the elite HC and OC that you want to hire? They don’t grow on trees. Some people here assume that a “hot” coordinator like Ben Johnson in Detroit is the answer. We have no clue he’d be as HC - he has zero experience. He also scored 6 points in a huge game versus Baltimore. -
This guy is as much of an “insider” as we are

Obviously Ed Oliver’s injury doesn’t help. But NE’s offensive line has struggled pretty bad this season too. So I think I’d call it more of push than a disadvantage

If the Bills Don’t Make it to the AFCCG, Should McDermott Be Fired?
JohnNord replied to Gugny's topic in The Stadium Wall
He has a point though. It’s useless trying to have this debate because there’s not a remote chance of it happening. It’s like starting a thread called “should the Bills trade Gabe Davis for Devante Adams?” -
This was such a horrible horrible time in Bills history. The way Buddy Bic handled this situation was so horrendous to the point that he to trade Lynch when his value was probably at an all-time low in terms of compensation. There are some Bills fan who think Buddy was a good GM, I’ve always felt he was a joke

Week 7, Bills v. Cheats - Predict the Score
JohnNord replied to Freddie's Dead's topic in The Stadium Wall
I have a feeling it will be a close ugly game. A bit worried because Ed Oliver probably won’t be playing making the Bills weak up front and light at LB. Also the only place where NE is good is defending the run making the Bills one dimensional. Would not be shocked to see a loss -
McD and Daboll hate each other probably 🤣
JohnNord replied to Dablitzkrieg's topic in The Stadium Wall
No… if you read my comment above, I think it had more to do with someone of the comments he made about the offense earlier that season and the info from the Flores lawsuit -
They’ll find a way for him to be a gadget guy again…Jets are so stupid. Sign Hardman and then replace with old man Cobb a month later to make ARod happy

McD and Daboll hate each other probably 🤣
JohnNord replied to Dablitzkrieg's topic in The Stadium Wall
My theory: I think the most obvious one here is that at some point there seemed to be some friction with how the offense had been performing toward the middle of 2021 dropping 3 out of 4 games. I’m sure this led to resentment from Daboll, because it’s not like the Bills D was playing “lights out” either, which *could have been behind many reporters interpreting McDermott’s comments about the offense akin to “throwing his OC under the bus.” Daboll was well-liked by the media and had a great relationship with many. Perhaps this period is what led to Daboll’s alleged unhappiness, which came out in the Flores lawsuit. Seeing this news probably was embarrassing to McDermott on top of already having some tension in the past. This coupled with a ***** performance from his team is probably what led to McDermott bouncing Had nothing to do with this game -

Are people really that unhappy with our 4-2 Bills?
JohnNord replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think we all overreact to the final results on Sunday to an absolute extreme. Josh Allen looked like crap and threw 3 INT’s against the Jets in Week 1, we assume the Bills will look like crap all year along and he’ll lead the league in INTs. The Bills look like world-beaters by destroying Miami in Week 4, we assume every week is going to be an onslaught and that the team will never lose. Since the Bills struggled to beat the Giants means they will struggle against similar teams and get blown out by good ones Kansas City. The Bills at 6-0 vs. The Bills at 4-2, probably doesn’t mean that much in Week 7 in terms of Super Bowl aspirations. So much can still happen in a season resulting a negative or positive result and what happens one week, doesn’t necessarily carry over into the next. -
If the Bills Don’t Make it to the AFCCG, Should McDermott Be Fired?
JohnNord replied to Gugny's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think it’s a bit of an overreaction IMO. The Bills have won more games than almost every other team in the NFL the past 4 seasons. Obviously they haven’t won a Super Bowl but we all know what happened… the thing is to win a SB you really need to have a lot go right. There are many years where the best team that season hasn’t won’t a SB or even made it there. I know you’re not in this boat, but thing that people who demand firing one of the most successful coaches in team history fail to realize is that making a move doesn’t ensure that things get any better. There are people who have said the Bills should fire McDermott and hire someone w/o any HC experience like Ben Johnson in Detroit just because he’s the “hot name.” Plenty of good assistants have made terrible coaches. Everyone wants to point to John Fox in Denver but that situation is an outlier. When SD fired Marty, they didn’t fair much better and never made it out of the playoffs. Marty’s firing in itself is somewhat of an outlier as well. Besides this whole point is moot, because the chances of a McDermott firing are slim-to-none considering he re-signed a new deal. -
I’ve been impressed so far. They have not been perfect but have done about as well as we could have hoped. I am a little concerned with their run defense and their pass defense. It seemed like a missed tackles resulted in one of the big Barkley runs and also I noticed Wandale Robinson was consistently finding open spots in their zones to move the chain. Overall I’ve been encouraged

is two deep the blueprint on how to beat the Bills?
JohnNord replied to Coldfronts's topic in The Stadium Wall
This really isn’t any sort of surprise. All of the talk last year was improving the run game and finding slot options with YAC to counter the 2 high looks. The offense has improved in these areas but not as much as everyone would like. Certainly not enough to make teams pay. I think the problem is partly on coaching…also on Josh to do a better job with making the right decision at the right time, and on the receivers to get into the right spots in the defense. It’s only week 6….theres still time -
Was Elam ok or could the Giants just not take advantage of him?
JohnNord replied to GreggTX's topic in The Stadium Wall
He was beaten down the field by Slayton on man-to-man coverage. It was fairly high profile. He also got called for the PI. Other than that, I think he did ok. He was t a train wreck and not a player constantly targeted as he was last week -
After nine games, where do you think the Bills end up this season?
JohnNord replied to Chaos's topic in The Stadium Wall
Last season kind of changed my outlook overall. I remember a Patriots fan saying “the season doesn’t start until December” and when you look at 2022 he was right. It doesn’t matter if your record is 13-3 as the #2 seed in the playoffs. The home field is nice but winning a road playoff game is far from impossible. I just want to see this team firing on all cylinders and going into the postseason strong. If they aren’t the #1 seed, I could really care less whether they are #2 or #7 -
Given his contract, it’s fair to want more from Knox. He has flashed so much potential at times and he’s improved quite as a blocker. For this reason, the Bills bet on potential. It paid off with Josh and Ed Oliver. Has not really paid off with Knox…yet

Who will be the first coach fired?
JohnNord replied to EmotionallyUnstable's topic in The Stadium Wall
Good poll. I think all these coaches will be on the hot seat come seasons end. Eberfluss is the most likely not to make it out of the season. I think he’s a goner and his GM Ryan Poles should be on the chopping block as well. He had an opportunity for a complete rebuild and after year 3, and has little to show for it. He’s also made some goofy moves IMO like devoting a lot of his cap to signing Edmunds and Edwards. Holding 2 high picks in 2024, the Bears are in a position where they can do the same thing but under a different GM. A great situation to walk into. Out of all these teams, San Diego is the most desirable given the QB situation. Given the lousy job he’s done as GM the past few years, it does make you wonder if he still complete control over roster/drafting as he had in NE -
I shed a few watching that QB play, for sure
-
Wouldn’t be surprised if he misses a few weeks which could explain the signing of Fournette. My guess is it’s a PS squad spot

What is going on with the offensive juggernauts?
JohnNord replied to Royale with Cheese's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think it’s a mix of matchups and defense getting the upper hand early on. As the season goes on, I feel you’ll see a counter and wouldn’t be surprised to see the three teams you mention shape up into top form in December -
To be fair, that is Daboll’s thing. He chewed out Josh on the sideline as a rookie and famously during the New England game in 2019. He also did the same thing to Daniel Jones earlier this season.
