While I like the idea, I have concerns about this regime’s ability to draft defensive players. Their biggest hit to date is probably Ed Oliver. The rest of the picks on defense have either been meh, flops or undeveloped. Yes I’m including Edmunds in “meh.” They’ve invested a lot in defense in the draft and have gotten nothing.

Brandon Beane interview on Eric Wood podcast

None but he’s joked about it before. I think he talked about it during the first interview. It was all related to language in his contract. -
STH Invoices are posted. 15% increase is a lot.

As long as they are defensive line COACHES and no defensive line players, I don’t kind the Carolina connection!

Brandon Beane interview on Eric Wood podcast
JohnNord replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
Beane sounds like a such a cool guy so I get why people love him. But it’s almost prohibited to say anything negative about him. He basically confirmed what most of suggested - he’s not a fan of trading 1-3 rounds picks for an established player unless on a short term deal. So you won’t see him go “all in” the way LAR and TB have done the past two seasons. He’s philosophically opposed to this idea. He also alluded to drafting more DL or OL. I’m all for getting better linemen for Josh but Beane’s picks on the defense line have been mostly unsuccessful. All these ideas sound practical but for anyone hoping for a “big swing” in 2022, don’t expect it to happen. I have a feeling the Bills replace departed players with new acquisitions that are going to perform at a similar level. -
Allen is transforming into NEO from the Matrix...he is The One

I feel pretty confident that Allen has his best season in 2022 -
What were their suggestions on the roster based on the cap?

Our defense always seems to come up short in the playoffs

Who on the Bills defense is on the same level as Donald and Miller. It’s not all on Frazier. I think there’s been some poor draft picks and FA signings when it comes to defensive line -

@streetkings01 He’s not very observant. If he was, he’d realize that insults like this are why many members and admins here don’t have a very high opinion of him. Notice how none of the other admin here will resort to personal insults? -
Rams Team Building Strategy Will It Be Duplicated or a Rareity
JohnNord replied to corta765's topic in The Stadium Wall
If anything, I think it shows that the draft is a crap shoot. Is there a better chance that you hit on that 2nd or 3rd round pick? Or a better chance that the proven veteran that you trade for makes a big impact? What good is a second round draft pick if you get Zay Jones, Cody Ford, or AJ Epinesa? -
Tremaine Edmunds is not the game wrecker?

I’ll add in that the Bills defense was also not clutch.

Danielle Hunter, DE, the perfect trade candidate
JohnNord replied to Estro's topic in The Stadium Wall
The Bills have needed help at on the defensive line since 2018. The fact that the Bills are in a position where they still need to find help at DE is damming to Beane, McDermott and the coaching staff. Some bad choices. Here’s how Beane has addressed the needs: 2018: Star Lotulelei (FA) Jordan Phillips (waivers) 2019: Ed Oliver (draft - 1) Trent Murphy (FA) 2020: AJ Epinesa (draft - 2) Mario Addison (FA) Justin Jefferson (FA) Vernon Butler (FA) 2021 Greg Rosseau (draft -1) Boogie Basham (draft -2) Efe Obada (FA) Nearly every move that Beane made to address the line has not panned out well besides Oliver who had his best season in 2021. The Bills knew that Hughes and Addison probably would not play in Buffalo in 2022 so they drafted Rosseau and Basham - neither which appear to be anything more than serviceable. Then there’s a JAG like AJ Epinesa who gives you nothing as a pass rusher. These draft choices were pretty underwhelming and still, they need help at DE. That’s why I’m saying it’s better to trade the pick for Hunter a proven commodity than it is to allow the scouting staff to whiff on another DE. To make matters worse the Bills have constantly tried to address DE and have failed miserably. They thought Star would be the “space eating anchor” - some fans here still think he is - but he just hasn’t been good. The Bills have needed a DE and 1TDT since 2018 -

What’s the alternative? 2022 is the last in Allen’s rookie contract window. The Bills have no one at DE. They aren’t going to be able to draft a DE that comes in and dominated. They need to make a big move to upgrade DE. Their attempts in the past have not worked -

The reason Buffalo is in this spot is because Beane’s investments have not panned out well so far. -
Colts to either trade or cut Carson Wentz
JohnNord replied to BuffaloBills1998's topic in The Stadium Wall
I don’t think Reich is on the hot seat but it’s pretty obvious that Wentz at QB wasn’t going to work. GM Chris Ballard seemed to sum it up pretty well at the end of the season he basically they didn’t have many options at QB so trading for Wentz was worth a shot. -

I am a huge fan of JD but I have a feeling his stock is going to rise fast as there isn’t as much depth at DT as there is in other positions

It’s an entry level coaching position. People are making more out of it than that.

He’s a position coach…who really cares?

2021 Bills ST coach Heath Farwell joins the Jags
JohnNord replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think so too but what is he going to? Fire himself? 🤣. I guess he can make the argument that a kick in play runs off 4-5 seconds (or more) off the clock and limits KC to one play. Then again it might only run off 1-2. Who knows? I trust Eric Turner of Cover 1 who first reported what happened. He said there were other issues with Farwell and the last :13 is only part of the reason why he’s not back. As far as McDermott Tim Graham speculated that the earned respect in the locker room based on how he address the situation. He didn’t give any answers but also didn’t throw any players or coaches under the bus. He said players respect that. This is what Erik Turner of Cover 2 said as well. The kickoff was only part of the issue and that there were other factors. You probably hit on many of these -
Probably the only the statement you’ve ever made that I can agree with
-
I agree… I don’t think he’ll have some kind of breakthrough season fans have been talking about since he was drafted. He’s always going to be inconsistent. His size and athleticism will help the defense and allow him to cover ground in zone defense. But he won’t be the one to make the big INT or FF. He’ll make tackles but very few of these will be a crucial stop behind the LOS when we need it. Ultimately I see him as being gifted but not a difference maker. I don’t think you want to give this kind of player $12-$15M a season. But it sounds like the Bills think he can improve and will be willing to pay that. I just am not as optimistic
-
There are a few factors that account for this. The biggest is the type of 2 high shell defense the Bills were seeing most of the season. Typically this treatment for QB’s that defenses respect through the air. Josh saw a lot of man coverage last year and absolutely destroyed. This year the coverage took away some of the deep shots we were used to seeing last season. It took the Bills nearly half a season to figure this out. What compounded the issue was an underperforming OL - which Josh actually figured how to work around. The other is a running game which didn’t threaten defenses for most of the season and slowed redzone production. It was either ineffective or not utilized appropriately. Once the Bills found their line combo, the run game improved and the overall offense was more efficient toward the end of the season. Numbers aside, I believe you can make the argument that Josh was actually better in 2021 given how much of the offense he accounted for. He literally was the Bills entire offense
