There’s just so much hyperbole at work on these boards haha like you can be critical of McDermott and still admit he has done a good job developing defensive players. the guy has gotten a ton out of pretty low ceiling talent type guys. Doesn’t mean he’s a genius that’s beyond criticism though by any means

Not to put words in anyone’s mouth but that did not appear to be the posters point at all. The ‘comeback’ last night was fueled by objectively flukey plays which is what they were referencing. The ball is not going to bounce only the opponents way at every possible opportunity seemed to be what the gist was, and despite that happening the closest they came was a very very low percentage desperation play which is how a lot of games end that one team is controlling. the giants and pats games were absolutely terrible, but last night was clearly a better effort without question.
-
Under a microscope though supposedly great/good coaches frequently make terrible decisions also to be fair. We’re just not putting other teams coaches under the same level of criticism understandably andy Reid made some absolutely disastrous decisions in that week 1 game There’s also a lot of terrible coaches in this league and many that are overrated in the same way you are criticizing McDermott so your numbers are way off regardless

1-1 in the giants and pats stretch seems just right…people sayin we should be 0-2 are being a bit hypocritical. I do think the win should’ve been against the pats and the lost should’ve been the giants though They want to correct a call in the giants game but the obviously blown ineligible man downfield penalty has to hold up to make us 0-2? also we got hosed on the jets punt return so things even out as time goes on…we’re about 50/50 on getting helped/hurt by late game penalties which is right where you should be

Godwin was lost that whole play and was at no point a threat to catch that pass. This is all getting massively overblown. Mike evans straight up knocked over 1/3rd of our team with a blatant opi which definitely didn’t help things.. if we got called for dpi on that play and they got away with that I never would’ve watched football again 🤣
-
That had a lot to do with it and evans undoubtedly was trying to accomplish just that lol I think some of it was the defenders playing the receivers to time their jumps and Godwin was just out of position so no one took him very seriously too. Looked like he was getting in position to catch a tipped pass to me and didn’t make it in time which is pretty normal for a Hail Mary but I keep getting downvoted for posting that 😂 seeing outcry that the bills weren’t called for dpi has had me giggling all day…that’s pretty typical defense by any team on any Hail Mary attempt. What evans did though very much is not

I could see it more if those late 8 points from the bucs weren’t pretty much dumb luck lol I do get where the negativity is coming from though but that was a pretty freak occurrence. a tipped ball on your side goes for an int but multiple 4th down penalties and two tipped balls in a row lead to points for the opponent id love to see what the odds on that are 😂 phillips is an idiot but that play def should’ve been blown dead…a penalty by rule for sure but the corniest most inconsequential facemask of all time -

I totally get that…to me personally the bucs making it a game felt quite fluky and it wasn’t really ‘earned’ if that makes sense? Like I wouldn’t expect balls to be bouncing straight to our opponent all game/qbs miraculously keeping their knee off the dirt on pretty much guaranteed safeties every week if we are trying to extrapolate yesterdays outcome to future games. Baker did some superhuman sh*t to keep drives alive late and they got every break imaginable and still the closest they came was a Hail Mary that no receiver even really tracked is the flip side of the argument. also there’s no way we get that conservative with punts against a top offense, McDermott has been aggressive in those situations before so a lot of that decision making was bucs specific which is how it should be im hoping we don’t see that goal line shotgun run again after the blowback last night too but you never know 😂. I have more confidence that we’re not gonna go out and beat our heads against the wall trying the same things over and over after last night which is the first time I’ve had that rosy feeling in awhile lol if anyone’s saying…look how we played last night were def gonna beat the bengals and chiefs though I’d strongly disagree with that.. I think we’re back in the ‘it’s close to a coin flip’ scenario from ‘it’s a certain loss’ though -
I mean they did lose to a much worse defense the week before and couldn’t do much of anything right haha is that not improvement? I can’t speak for the whole ‘there were a lot of positives last night’ side but I think it was a pretty firm step in the right direction and I have genuinely no idea if we’ll hang with the better teams. After the pats game though I was 100% sure we couldn’t. I’m honestly kind of glad we blew that goal line playcall in a game that we were very likely going to win anyway because hopefully we will not see it again 😂
-
For real.. I can see the criticism though because there’s no way for a viewer to know what benefit came from taking the timeout. But we’re def goin overboard with the pitchforks on this one. I’d kindly request people to turn them on not sneaking on short yardage situations/the goal line lol Idk how smart a play that was to be fair…took an absurd amount of luck to avoid an opi there and catch a ball that donked off a well positioned defenders helmet. That was not a high percentage play by any means Mike evans pushes off every play it is absolutely unreal…every time you see him no matter who he is playing. He shoved poyer down on the Hail Mary too lol
-
Assuming that’s sarcasm I completely agree 😂 it’s tough to tell sometimes around these parts lol
-
‘Coming down to a Hail Mary’ is still a ridiculous statement to me haha the jags absolutely dominated us and we had a shot at a hook and ladder play for the win does that mean we almost won? Literally every little bounce/break went the bucs way until the final moments and that’s the closest they came i have no problem with people being critical of things but there were objectively quite a few positives last night as well
-
If McDermott does anything right, it’s developing non defensive line defensive talent 😂. I’m all for criticizing the deficiencies but gotta give him some credit where it’s due too Lot of pretty ok/nothing special players have come here and had career turnarounds. A lot of mid/late round picks without much upside have turned into good players here. I hope that opening int from the pats game got him to take a good hard look into the looking defenders off aspect…he seemed to do a way better job with that last night. Felt like he’s been getting lazier with it over time and when he’s got a good route concept against a single defender he was just staring his guy down which led to a few route jumps this year

That’s certainly debatable at least and I can understand the other side of it…the way the second half went down I don’t personally see how the bucs could’ve scored two tds without hitting an obscenely unlikely deep Hail Mary attempt so I’d personally call that fairly comfortable but I could see why others would not a desperation last second play is how a lot of games end for a team that is controlling the game -

It made perfect sense because the ball is supposed to go to a spot that he is not in lol he’s hanging out trying to catch a tipped ball while other players try to high point it near the front of the end zone. Looked like the pass rush sped the throw up and the bucs weren’t in position…at first I thought Godwin just lost the football while he was tracking it but that does not look to be the case I really don’t get the pushback here lol this is literally textbook football 101 stuff. A completed Hail Mary is oftentimes a deflected pass and if you are launching the ball deep into the end zone you’re taking a lot of that away because you’ve gotta worry about balls getting deflected out of bounds y’all think they just wing it deep with no plan and pray and Godwin just happened to be facing backwards not looking for the football for no particular reason and we almost lost because a ball fell close to a guy that made 0 attempt to catch it? Lol come on now that’s even sillier than anything you think that you’re laughing at -

They get thrown to a spot on the field lol not a specific player.. teams want to maximize how many guys have a shot at a ricocheted ball. Players all have predefined spots they’re supposed to be in the end zone to maximize their chance of catching a tip and godwin was late getting to his. You think they all just run around backyard football style? Lol makes no sense it’s a schemed up play like everything else…usually your taller players are up by the goal line jumping to high point the ball but they had mike evans deep in the end zone shoving people for whatever reason -

Generic_Bills_Fan replied to Dan Darragh's topic in The Stadium Wall
You don’t? 😂. They get thrown to a spot and baker missed it. You think Godwin was just spinning around in the end zone for fun if he was supposed to be a primary target? Lol y’all are too much usually the ball is supposed to be closer to the beginning of the end zone so multiple receivers have a shot at a tipped pass i don’t remember the play you’re referencing but there’s a good chance it wasn’t actually a Hail Mary. People misuse the term Hail Mary literally all the time…every deep pass to close out a game is not a Hail Mary. When there’s as many offensive players committing interference as defensive, no flag is coming out period -

Yea….no chance when Mike evans is shoving defenders in the back down there lol. Y’all are still broken from the hail Murray which wasn’t even really a Hail Mary so this whole thing is completely ironic 😂. Bucs would hit that play last night probably 1/1000 times. The area the football was supposed to go was very well defended and baker wildly missed so it ended up sailing by Godwin who was getting in position to catch a tipped pass and wasn’t ready for it.
