  1. Trade compensation is as much about the contract as it is the picks. There’s a case to be made that teams should never trade picks for players. All your picks are buying you is the right to pay a specific player at the top of the market. That’s de minimus value.
  2. I don’t mind drafting a player who is a bit older in the third round or later. Don’t love it in round 2 and would hate it in round 1. It really limits their upside, IMO.
  3. Not sure I really follow the logic here. Absolute worst case scenario, they keep Caliendo at LG where he played in the postseason. He wasn’t good, but he was serviceable. Kingsley played very well against the Broncos in the only game he played LG, so he’s likely going to win the spot. That leaves only LT to fill. Trading Thuney didn’t impact that at all other than to free up $16 million of cap room and give the team an extra 4th round pick. There’s no reason to believe Hollywood won’t be back. He didn’t do anything to increase his market value, and it seems reasonable that he’d rather stay where he’s spent a year learning the offense if he wants to showcase himself for a bigger contract a year from now. Bolton’s very likely going to sign an extension. He’s the QB of Spagnuolo’s defense, went to school locally, and doesn’t play a position that commands huge money. Reid leaving pretty much removed any doubt about which defensive player they were going to pay. It’s typically not difficult to follow Veach and Andy’s thought process in terms of roster building. They tend to draft a replacement a year in advance of a veteran hitting free agency. If that player hits, the veteran probably isn’t getting a new contract.
  4. There are already solid options in-house to replace Thuney. In all likelihood it will be Kingsley Suamataia who was their second round pick last year. He got killed at LT but looked really good at LG. Reid’s replacement, Jaden Hicks, was drafted last year with the fourth round pick that came back from Buffalo as part of the Worthy trade. There’s also Chamarri Conner who was drafted two years ago as a Safety but has been playing somewhat out of position at CB. The only D-line rotational player that’s likely gone is Tershawn Wharton. He was a UDFA who played really well last season and will likely get a solid payday. That’s a loss for sure, but rotational DTs are replaceable. Hopkins is washed and provided nothing down the stretch. Hollywood may re-sign if he’s willing to take another inexpensive deal. He barely played last season. Bolton isn’t going anywhere. Overall, there’s definitely a lot of turnover. Next season will see a lot more. The FO is going to have to get a lot right in the next few months if they’re going to keep this train rolling, especially with Kelce’s best days being behind him.
  5. If I’m starting a franchise, I’d take Chase over Geno in a heartbeat if the money was equal. Same goes for Baker.
  6. I see this sentiment a lot around here regarding players like Deebo and Xavier Worthy and how they don’t fit Buffalo’s scheme, but what does it mean? You can’t throw a quick pass to a guy in space? Would all hell break loose if you were to send a WR in motion and hand him the ball on a sweep? Deebo is one of the most versatile skill position players of this generation. Worthy is the fastest player in league history. Every PeeWee coach in the country can figure out how to get their best athlete the ball. What scheme do the Bills use that has persisted from Daboll to Dorsey to Brady that precludes them from doing the same?
  7. He’s made over $110 million in his career. I doubt he’s moving to Buffalo for a 1 year/$1.2 million deal.
  8. And the draft isn’t much better.
  9. That WR list is a who’s who of injury concerns.
  10. I would be stunned if Grant drops that far. If he does, Beane is going to beat Worthy’s 40 time running to the podium.
  11. But he’s not going to play under that contract, so his current cap number is irrelevant. You’re essentially sending a pick in exchange for receiving exclusive negotiating rights for signing that player to a contract.
  12. He just ran a basically undraftable 40 time of 4.60.
  13. Hyde was a Safety, and Douglas gave Buffalo half a good regular season before falling off a cliff in January of 2024.
  14. I don’t see any way a trade happens without a new deal being in place. That notwithstanding, Corners age like milk. They can go from elite to washed almost overnight. If GB’s willing to move him, there’s probably a reason.
  15. That’s the big question in my mind. I’m really curious to see his combine performance. He’s a local kid for me, so he gets a lot of buzz in KC, but I’m just not sure he’s got enough speed for the league. He reminds me of a college pitcher who can throw junk balls really effectively but whose fastball tops out at 88. If he runs a 4.45 or something, he’s likely going day 2. If he’s 4.55, he’s off my board. If I’m spending draft capital on a RB, I want someone who turns 20 yard gains into TDs, not the other way around.
  16. Beane just drafted Ray Davis in the 4th round last year. He should be able to give you 90% of what Cook will give you. You’d then be left with a second round pick AND $13?million of cap space that you wouldn’t otherwise have. 3 second round picks and an extra $50 million over 4 seasons would go a long way towards landing a player who would make a whole lot more difference than a good but not elite RB.
  17. If the Bills cut him today, I’m not sure there’s a team in the league that would pay him the kind of money he’s looking for. Absolutely zero chance anyone would give up a 2nd round pick for the right to pay him $15,000,000 a year.
  18. Was he a teammate of Barry’s perchance?
  19. I’ll compare him to both plus Cooper and Kincaid. Worthy had 19 catches for 287 yards and 3 TDs. Shakir, Cooper, Kincaid, and Coleman had 33 catches for 308 yards and 0 TDs. He’s a very good player who should be used the way he was in 2023. He thrives when he’s Robin, but he’s not Batman.
  20. Of course. In his last 10 games, he never had fewer than 4 catches and scored 7 TDs. Presumably, he’ll have Rashee Rice lined up opposite him for most of the season plus likely Hollywood Brown as well. That would be a top 5 set of receivers.
  21. Xavier Worthy regular season: 10.8 YPC Khalil Shakir regular season: 10.8 YPC Xavier Worthy postseason: 15.1 YPC (3 TDs) Khalil Shakir postseason: 9.7 YPC. (0 TDs)
  22. That’s a solid deal for Beane. WR contracts are insane anymore. 4 seasons ago, the only WRs making over $15 million were Julio Jones, AJ Green, Tyreek Hill, Davante Adams, and Sammy Watkins.
  23. Worthy led all rookies in TDs including postseason with 12, so he’s one hell of a WR3. For the sake of perspective, Shakir has 9 in his 3 year career and just got a $60+ million contract. I’m curious as to who you think the premium LT available at 32 was. I mean, a franchise QB would have been more impactful for the Jaguars, but I still think Brian Thomas Jr. was a pretty good pick.
  24. He played in 19 games including postseason. He had 78 catches on 119 targets plus 23 rushes for 1,037 yards and 12 TDs.
  25. The assumption is that all will rookies improve over time. That doesn’t mean they can’t be major contributors in year one, especially late in the season and in the playoffs. Coleman had 1 catch for 5 yards in the WC round, 1 catch for 5 yards in the Divisional, and 1 catch for 12 yards in the CCG. If he’d put up 6 catches for 85 yards and a TD against KC, Buffalo likely would have been in the Super Bowl. Even if he becomes a stud in year 3, that doesn’t change the past.
