  1. Ms. Friedman loved me first! Andrea walked into class one day, full of naive confidence, and insisted that she could incontrovertibly prove the existence of God. Now we all know that no one can do that, it’s a matter of faith. It’s also a huge part of a Jesuit education to challenge things. So while she argued creationism, we argued that we evolved from single-celled amoeba and crawled out of the slime as alligators. She gave up in total frustration. It was so easy, and so much fun, to push her buttons ? .
  2. Yeah, I loved Ms. Friedman. Had her for home room in senior year. Ms. Tyrpak was cute, but just so very young, innocent, and naive. I don’t think she even understood what I and the rest of the entire student body, were thinking about her body. (Or maybe she did...maybe she went home at night and fantasized about us all...I’d like to think that ?) .
  3. And you imagined yourself in the middle, I’m sure ? (I know I did!) .
  4. Just please don’t tell me you took German with Frau, or history with DAC, or Calculus with Zippy Cohn. We’d have to share stories about sneaking out to Merlin’s, or busting a big fat one behind the Jesuit residence wing! Andrea Tyrpak, current principal, was a first year religion teacher back then, quite a hottie, and the object, I’m sure, of countless fantasies. My own fantasies were for Ms. Friedman, the art teacher - also a work of art! .
  5. Jesus H. Christ, we once were really this young? https://buffalonews.com/2017/06/21/sean-kirst-gregg-allman-canisius-show-lives-changed/
  6. Yes - I was the treasurer that wrote all the checks for that event. Militello never really told me why I was writing all those checks, but I trusted Mike and wrote them anyway. As I recall, we pulled everyone out of class for a presentation on “The Acoustics of Sound”. Greg Allman came on stage and said, “I’ll be your Professor today.” Brian Proknal was the guy who made it all happen. He knew Greg was in town for rehab, and bombarded the guy with letters begging him to do the event. Still have photos of Greg and Cher with me, Fr.Papaj, and Fr. Creahan, and a few classmates from ‘77. Don’t remember smoking doobies in the auditorium - we did that in Fr. Carr’s office, or in our small sanctuary on the 3rd floor of what is now the Kessler wing ( the old Rand Mansion). Good memories. .
  7. OK, someone had to post this from one of the ultimate guy films of all time... .
  8. I’ve always loved John Prine - it’s quite a pleasure to know another fan! .
  9. Oh my gosh, I could not agree more. How else does the greatest golfer since Bobby Jones treat me, a simple plebe spectator/worshiper, treat me so kindly? Rarely. .
  10. And how freakin’ great must that be? ???️‍
  11. Well, I have no videos, but I do know that they drain your blood, fill your veins with latex, scrub your teeth with Comet, and sew every orifice - lips, and all the others - permanently closed, all so your family and friends can stare at your corpse and marvel at how great you look. Give me a closed casket for a few hours if my friends want to pay respects, then instant cremation. Do with my ashes what you will - I’m dead and don’t care. . .
  12. My goodness, can you possibly imagine a better way to earn a living than playing golf??!! I remember when Tiger dropped out of Stanford to go pro. My very best wishes to your young friend! .
  13. Well I am a golf junkie. I once followed Gary Player and (gulp, I’m freaking old) Miller Barber and Tom Kite around the course at the US Seniors Open . Arnold Palmer hit right into me, and there I was, standing 4 feet away from “The King”. The marshalls asked me to move back, and Arnold said, “No, don’t worry, he’s fine.”. I stood six feet away as he took his approach swing - pretty much awestruck, which almost never happens to me. Shook his hand, still have his autograph. Nicest superstar on this planet. I am so jealous that you’ve been to the Masters - I’ve played The Country Club in Brookline, Congressional in DC, all the courses at Pebble Beach, but Augusta? I don’t know anyone who can get me on, but it’s definitely on my bucket list. I’m just sad that the Eisenhower Tree is gone - if I could hit the ball 217 yards on a par 3, I would have hit it on purpose! . Tiger had his dark days. We all do. I’m so ecstatic that those days are behind him. (Although I’m rooting for ‘Big Lefty’, as I always do.) .
  14. My late mom had about 2 dozen old wax 78 rpm recordings of Lionel. I used to listen to them in awe. As i searched thru her things recently, I found a few. Now, it’s really hard to find a turntable that plays old 78 rpm records, but I found one at Stereo Advantage and bought it for 360 bucks. Very few people realize that Lionel Hampton was an excellent drummer, and a more excellent pianist. He was just too great on the vibraphone that no one paid attention to his other talents. Thank you for bringing back great memories. .
  15. OK - this be off the beaten trail for this thread, but this is the final movment of a Beethoven sonata Opus 57, the “Appasionata”, I saw Vladimir Ashkenazy play at Kleinhans when I was 15. It fascinated me, and forced me to master it, along with the rest of Beethoven’s 32 piano sonatas that I had never approached. It got me thru every conservatory audition with flying colors...
  16. Dude is freaky big and athletic. Brady is going to be around at least two more seasons, so they can afford to make Tyree a project. You can coach just about everything else, but there’s one thing you can’t coach - how to be 6’7”. .
  17. Well, nothing Wally Cherepinsky does or says really surprises me. ?
  18. Forget about that. Tyree Jackson will be wearing a Patriots jersey way before the fifth round. As always, JMO .
  19. NFTA used to run 4 bus routes to the stadium. It was great - I’d drive to Lancaster, go to Mass with my parents, park my car at Clarence Mall and take a 2 dollar bus ride to the stadium - avoid the parking nonsense and he whole drinking/driving risk. Now, the only way out there is drive, Uber, or hire a limo. I am 100% for a downtown stadium that I can walk to in nice weather, or take a quick trolley in rain or snow. They should bulldoze the 50-year old dinosaur in OP (War Memorial Stadium was younger when the Bills abandoned it). I really don’t care where the practice facility or front office is located. .
  20. As long as we’ve moved on to stringed instruments, solo Steve Howe (Yes)... (weird looking dude, thankfully they only show his fingers) .
  21. Unbelievable that those brave guys put B-25s in the sky from the deck of a carrier. No steam catapults or anything like that, just courage and a big set of balls. RIP, Lt. Richard Cole https://www.nytimes.com/2019/04/09/obituaries/richard-cole-dead.html .
  22. What does Jason Peters have to do with this? .
  23. We’d be lucky to get Trevor Zegras at #7, but a 6’ 170# center with his scoring and playmaking ability would suit this team just fine. Now let’s sign Alain Vignault. EDIT: Zegras is headed to Boston University. He won’t be in the NHL for a few years. He’s draft eligible, if we want to wait four years, but he’s committed to BU. .
  24. Yeah, Tim, I read every word of all your posts in this thread. Maybe you could distill your verbosity a bit, like one sentence... ”I don’t like Cynthia Frelund.” .
